It makes more sense for the viewers to equate it to the cancer story, (IMO) because I can more easily understand her behaviour with thoughts of 'the meaning of life' lurking in her mind. If she picked that particular day to have it out with Mulder over her lack of desk etc., I still wonder what prompted it. I suppose everyone's allowed to have an off-day, so this could have been hers. The things she brought up to gripe about, nevertheless *were* valid, whatever her reason was for mentioning them then.
