I think Morgan and Wong should be greatful for the turn of events because having the cancer arc made it a deeper story. I agree that Scully's cold behavior didn't really fit. She and Mulder weren't at odds in previous eps, were they? I'd have to check the ep guide to see what was on before these. If this had come say, after Nisei/731, when M&S were having a bit of a tiff it would have worked well with that series of episodes. Have you read the book Extreme Possibiities where the authors contend there was an arc of shows in Season 3 where M&S were at odds?

As you say, everyone can have an off day and Scully could have just been in a bad mood. But the way Never Again was presented, with her really down on him and her job from the beginning of the episode, it certainly had the feel that these feelings Scully was having had been building for a while.
