Subject: A Whole lotta big overdue words on Dane's Ep!
In reply to: Patrick Lonergan 's message, "REVIEWS: Dane Cook 12/03/05" on 10:35:27 12/03/05 Sat

Here's my review not a moment too late!

McDonald’s: Creative innovations. Too many slams at McDonald’s so it did seem kind of repetitive. But for the most part it was nice short and sweet cold opening. So for that I say good job. I have to say Russian Roulette in McDonalds would be hilarious and fun!
Monologue: Dane is a stand-up, so in his monologue, he does... Stand-up. Stand-up about fat chicks, it does get a bit cliche’ with the beep beep, I know Jim already mentioned this. But that Olympic line was well timed, and I loved the Thanksgiving intro. Solid Mono Mark, keep up the good work.
Weather Channel: Good sketch to really culminate the Hurricane Mess. Some of the anchor lines were slow, but I liked that Greek Alphabet line. Bob Stokes had the right energy and feel for the sketch.
Midnight Rambler: Solid work WINTAH. The overly gay jokes seemed to get out of hand. I would have done more with him just struggling to kill people. But for the most part it well written and it built up very nicely. I liked the mini -conversations between Will and Jen about College and that Chinese restaurant orgasm comparison was well done!
Bad Judge of Character: JP the absurdity never ceases! You didn’t rewind the DVD man, that was worth a good laugh. I found the general confusion and misunderstanding over Dane humorous. It’s those kind of sketch premises that I enjoy. The turnaround with the lady being a judge was a nice twist.
Cramped Workout: Man, some visuals would have been nice. But still, the continuing accidents and Skylar’s attempts to remain calm to the audience were a great comedic combo. Pardon if my grammar is weak. This was just made for Dane Cook and it would have probably been an awesome sketch if he actually did it. On paper it’s pretty good, so I have to still applaud you on a job well done.
Shokacrotch: As I mentioned before, this was a solid commercial. Idea was okay, but the delivery and one-liners really made a difference. And of course the ending was my favorite, nice job.
WU: Quick thoughts, not bad. It was a submission heavy up. The jokes were a slew of misses and hits and Rachel’s Dirty family crests were okay. Sick and somewhat funny, could have been more clever than Dirty Harry Big Pussy. That girls gone wild ape pic was worth a laugh though.
Asexual: Weird, but in a sick way. I like sick humor, but it has to be funny and sick. This was a good idea, it had promise, but it fell short. It was just more sick with the masturbation than funny. I think it could have used more development. More sick and clever lines to help incorporate the asexual-ness.
Steve: Another ad parody, a bit underdeveloped. I get it that you wanted to go for the “He’s a Guy that does things” angle, but it just fell flat at the end. The medical dialogue about side-effects was worth a laugh
Grammy at the Mall: Okay, after reading the title, idea sounded weak. But once I got into the sketch it was quite enjoyable. The one-liners about the band Dokken and early morning were great. Though, the ending was left open, I would have played with the gang kids a bit.
Frontier Timber: Another commercial parody, we are just racking up a new batch for our next commercial special! This was a decent commercial. Granted shouting about forest fires and threats are not as funny as I would have hoped. Sorry though, but I did find the end worth a laugh. The constant need to relax was the one part I enjoyed.
Jury Duty 2: Well the Bush jokes don’t stop. Not a bad idea though I think beating Pauly shore to the ground is a waste. Believe me I tried back in the summer and I think that was my weakest WU piece. The Newsaper remarks were laughable, but other than that, it just seemed to lack some truly creative and humorous thought.
Hilltop Gang Furniture: Well this was a good idea. Though the commercial angle was a bit weak. It’s like "Hey we’re criminals and we sell furniture" basically stating the bit over and over again. Not that the one-liners didn’t work, it’s just that it ran out of steam too early. I think a better way to go about this would be to do a sketch with customers coming in and trying out the furniture but thinking... hey are these guys criminals. Not really stating it until the end. Maybe that would have worked better.

Well that’s it for this review. Expect my Alec Baldwin review as well.
