Subject: Miss Scarlett, Miss Scarlett, I don't know nothing about reviewing no show!
In reply to: Prateek S. 's message, "Was that the first Cartoon, CO in SNL's history?" on 23:10:24 01/14/06 Sat

Well, I already used a Clue reference, so I had to come up with another one. For some reason the Gone With the Wind line stuck out for me. Anyway, on with the critique.

Alito Confirmation Hearings: Neat stuff. This was done far better than the Alito bits that were on the actual SNL. Sen. DeWine's growing insanity was incrediblly funny. The only thing I didn't really like was Feinstein's "orgy" line, it just seemed a little forced. Other than that, great CO.

Monologue: I never really see too many hecklers during the monologues, so this was welcome. Artie is a wonderfully absurd character. I think you could have gone a little bit more into his background as a "professional heckler", but that's just me. He had some great lines and made this a killer monologue.

Midnight Sleaze: So-so. A couple of funny moments, but there were times when it went a little overboard with sexual commentary. Again, if I may say, using fuck and fucker doesn't automatically result in comedy.

700 Club: It was okay, but I've seen a lot of other jokes based on the Robertson fiasco where victims of disasters are told it's their own fault or God's punishment, so that kind of weakened its impact.

Spider in the Supermarket: "It's like Kafka's 'Metamorphosis', but in reverse!" This was a brilliant sketch. It had a wonderfully absurd premise, great characters, and killer dialogue. I couldn't help but be amused at the Manager's frustration, and Percutio almost stole the show with his bits. Nice twist at the end, too.

NBC Midseason Retooling Time: Ooh, I had trouble getting through this one. The dialogue wasn't that good, there were too many unneeded/unfunny celebrity and pop-culture jokes, and these "Bush is dumb" jokes have been DONE TO DEATH! I don't want to cause any ill feelings. All I'm saying is that perhaps a break from the Bush & celebrity jokes is needed.

Norfolk Candy Store: Man this was good. A "stupid sales clerk" sketch is made or broken on the banter between the clerks and the customers, and this one was a winner. Incredible interaction between Penny and the victims. I really liked having the one woman's blood spurt out after being offered "Gushers", and Clem's pickpocketing. The spokesman at the end wasn't really needed in my opinion, though.

Attack of the Uterus: When I first read the title, all I could think was, "What the hell..." After going through the sketch, I couldn't stop laughing. This was one of the best monster movie parodies I have ever seen. Just imagining Fred in a giant foam rubber uterus costume is mind-blowingly funny. Having it turn women into zombies was a neat touch, though I wish more examples would have been shown. Very well done, though I have one question: I thought the Brits pronounced it (ah-prih-cot)
