Subject: I'm baaaaaaack (along with the 2nd half of my review)
In reply to: Jim Bevan 's message, "Following tradition, I will provide the first (but hopefully not the only) review." on 19:24:25 04/08/06 Sat

The Futon: Got off to a slow start, so the first half wasn't that catchy. It picked up when Antonio's neighbor character came in and revealed his obsessions over the futon. It was humorous to see his desperate attempts to obtain the furnishing, and then his ambiguity about how much it meant when he learned that he was cheated into buying it, treating it like an adulterous woman. I would have preferred learning why the seller didn't want the futon, and the couple didn't have any really redeeming lines except for when they said they buy music at Goodwill and when were discussing what to do with the money.

Antonio Banderas for SPIRIT: Didn't really fly for me, but that could be because I'm not a fan of celebrity-oriented sketches. It just seemed to stilted. Also, Tom Delay isn't in prison... yet. But who am I to nitpick; I put Jesse Helms in a Senate sketch when he retired years ago. As the saying goes, "What the joke needs, the joke gets."

Bill Meets Kremlorg: The drunken buffoon of the year makes a comeback, but I didn't really find this sketch as strong as his first outing. I can't explain it; the dialogue was still funny and Bill's interaction with another bizarre bar patron was good, but it just seemed to lack the impact of the first. Perhaps for a future return, Bill recognize the odd bar customer as being out of place or paranormal in nature, but dealing with it in his own drunken way.

Too Much Time Around an ER: Sorry, but this didn't appeal to me. Romantic tension at a hospital has been done far too many times.

Company Policies: Another newcomer to the SNY family brings a good pilot sketch. The owner had some good lines referring to the incompetence of the employees, but I would have liked to have seen some more interaction between the employees and their boss, and maybe a glimpse into how their dealing with the customers was affected by the changes implemented.

Well, that wraps up another review. See you all next week; hopefully I'll have the time to get a sketch finished for then.
