Subject: Returning to my roots (and by roots, I mean joke-by-joke Weekend Update reviews)

I haven't done any so far this season, but Prateek convinced me to give Update reviews another shot. I'm not going to sugarcoat anything, though, so don't take offense if I didn't find some jokes funny. In addition, I apologize that I wasn't able to contribute anything to the last WU, but I just couldn't find any anti-Semites to make fun of. Ah well, maybe I'll have better luck this week.

Bush & North Korea - pretty clever, reminiscent of my joke from years past about how the US' mistake to give Iraq weapons capabilities.

Bush & China - standard dumb Bush joke, nothing funny about this one.

Bush & anti-war critics - another cliched dumb Bush joke. Where is the originality?

Cheney & protesters - no humor in this one

FEMA - could have been more clever, this was just juvenile. Not funny at all.

Bird Flu - very nice. Killer punchline.

Hugo Chavez commentary - this was just dumb. The "Rico Suave" bit was totally unnecessary, and Chavez' comments were not humorous whatsoever. Again, a lot of them seemed juvenile and dumbed down, lacking any comedic appeal. This could have been better if whoever wrote this made fun of Chavez's opposition to free trade, or his squelching of Venezuelan media that shows any opposition to his policies. Viagra and Clinton jokes are NOT FUNNY ANYMORE!

Miss America Pageant - crude, immature, disgusting. Please don't do jokes like this anymore.

Terrell Owens/Jason Giambi - it made no sense whatsoever, and it had a horrible punchline.

San Diego Councliman - terrible.

Donovan McNabb - again, juvenile and unfunny.

Carrie Underwood - wow, I'm repeating myself a lot; immature and sick, no humor whatsoever.

"Chicken Little" - really sucked.

Courtney Love - the "druggie celebrity" jokes have been done to death, and they are not funny anymore.

Martha's "Apprentice" cancelled - had promise, but it denigrated into another cliched "Martha is still a prison bitch" punchline. Very poorly executed.

Couch Man commentary - some good and bad with this. First off, it was quite amusing to see Forte's superglue mishaps, and the jab at Tina's lack of writing skills was nice. However, the "dillhole" comment and jokes about the stuffing weren't that humorous, and the Danny Bonaduce remark didn't make any sense.

Viagra - again, I don't think the viagra jokes are funny anymore. THe punchlines are too predictable.

Oprah & Roger Ebert - made no sense, had no humor

Snake & Lizard ancestor - the punchline was a letdown.

Russel Crowe - made no sense, I couldn't find any humor in it.

Wal-Mart Protestors - Wal-Mart jokes are becoming cliched as well.

Principal replacement - cute. Quite funny.

Jay-C - I'm sick of this guy. He's too one-dimensional, and I can't find him funny anymore. Plus, his comments are far more disgusting than humorous.

Christina Aguilera marriage - predictable and lame.
