Subject: Jack Farrell's Super Awesome SNY Sketch Review: The Queen's Edition
In reply to: Patrick Lonergan 's message, "REVIEWS: Queen Latifah 10/09/04" on 15:59:19 10/09/04 Sat

Hello everybody, well we got through the first two weeks, just 18 shows left to go:) Overall a very nice week here at SNY, not perfect but very nice, Before we get to the review though here are some news and notes to start us off

My TV picks:
Law & Order SVU 10PM Tuesday guest starring Lewis Black
Law & Order 10PM Wednesday
SNL Best of Jimmy (He's not my favorite but he still did some good stuff)

Movie Pick: Team America (Any movie with the song "Everyone has AIDS" in it has to be seen at least once, from the South Park guys)

Sports pick: Go Sox! "I hate those Damn Yankees!"

News & Notes: Howdy folks just wanted to give you an update, the next edition of Live from snlyou.jt.org its Saturday Night You WILL be coming out on Wednesday GUARANTEED, If you yourself have any "interviews or material" feel more than free to email them to me and you will receive co-writers credit and a special gift from me (No not money) Also, time permitting, you may get a chance to read the Unaired version of the Debby Downer sketch that was supposed to air with the Affleck show a couple weeks ago. Now finally onto the review

VP Debate "Why do you have the banana in your ear Dad? "To lure the monkey out of my brain."

Not too bad of a cold opener here, I personally didnt get to see very much of the debate so I am sure a lot of the jokes went flying over the head, It was nice to see that this debate didnt last as freaking long as the cold opener on SNL, my god where's the editor when you need him, Good Work

Monologue "Dont be a hater, be a player"

Hmm interesting idea for the monologue here, definitely better than the SNL one, a little bit on the long side but I gotta admit trying to write sketches for Queen Latifah is rough, she doesnt have any range in the slightest. Keep truckin

Run! "So this is what passes for entertainment now"

Ah my one sketch this week, for those of you who don't know NBC is about to run this show called The Biggest Loser where people compete to lose weight and they are tempted by pastry desires along the way. "Whoever winds up the winner is The Biggest Loser". In retrospect I wish I had done a bit more to elaborate on this sketch but as it stands I think its pretty good, feel free to poop on me though if you like:)

Archaeologist- "Behold the Holy Hand Grenade!"

Very clever sketch here, a little bit on the long side but still very nice. This is the kind of inspired wackiness that keeps the SNY team at the top of their game. Serious characters with crazy dialogue is always a good way to go. Awesome

Senate Ads I-III- "It is too late for me"

This sketch had a humorifizacation level that combabulatedered my cognisigancety to a level of pure rhapsodian excuberanceity that was a morontodolostical thing. In lamen terms, this sketch was funny, very clever idea and not too long, Quality before quantity is always the best way to go:)

2nd Presidential Debate "Apparently I own a timbermill"

This sketch I am afraid to say I didnt go very nuts over. The last Debate was held on a Friday and even writing this sketch so soon should be commended, unfortunately I just didnt laugh very much. Nader and Kerry's characterizations weren't too bad but Bush is still off in this sketch. I always believed that Bush's stupidity is when he is trying to talk legitimately about a subject that he cant grasp, he generally has the left foot, right foot thing down, whats the old saying "Its better to be thought a fool and remain silent, then to speak and remove all doubt"

Weekend Update "America needs another Big Lake"

One of my favorite sketches of the show, this was a very nice WU with a handful of good commentaries that didnt go on too long and some great story jokes. In case your wondering I am the one who did the "Miss Piggy does Sesame Street" joke, their are some things that just shouldnt be done, even on this site:(

Cash Only- "Okay and how much is that in pubes"

Another clever original sketch here, and no I am not saying this because Patrick is the exec producer and controls what does and doesnt air, I wouldnt do that my holiness. This sketch didnt make my stomach explode but it had a very steady laugh rate which I wish a lot of other sketches on SNL could hit some time

A flash forward- "Apparently this time machine follows Terminator rules"

I wasnt too nuts about this sketch as I am not a huge fan of inside jokey sketches, although mind you every once in a while their can be some genius (check out Steve Martin's "Not gonna phone it in tonight") This sketch just dragged out a bit too long for me and seemed a little too rough for my own tastes. On the plus side though I do think the new montage sucks as well

Well thats all for this week. And as for the battle between SNL and SNY this week the winner is...

SNY by a slim margin, so the score is 1 to 1; well thats it for now relax those brains and get set for next week's Jude Law episode (which should kick ass SNL and SNY)

"It's a pleasure to see you, after Hogan's Heroes Bob Crane got his skull crushed by a friend who videotaped him having rough sex"

Jack
