CO – Out of the Frying Pan, into the Fire JEK
I drew: A boo

I know it seems like SNL likes to throw a conservative bashing kegger every Saturday but it’d be nice to not begin the show with such low hopes. The conversation about Dave Coulier being their father was kind of pointless, simply a time killer.

Side note: I liked the pacing of this and the lead in line. I also liked the pass the dutchie reference (I heard the song in my head- go 80s music!)

Mono – PL
I drew: Ramble

The line about horsey porn reminds of that time in chat when Hillary sent us the link about dolphin sex. The link had articles on various sexual habits and I read about this guy who reminded all men of something very important: Don’t penetrate a goose, you’ll kill it. But I have to wonder…what about dudes with very small penises? Or people born with “ambiguous” genitalia whose parents wanted them to decide later in life as opposed to operating?

Side note: I like the idea of there only being one twin, but for the record, the actual SNL monologue was fantastic (for a change.)

Private England – Max
I drew: Woo

I actually think that mentos was a good commercial to parody. The concept that the scandal pictures were actually for a birthday party is funny. And the jingle fit the actual jingle rhythms very well.

Side note: I’m not sure where you’d work this in, but I think bringing back the fact that she needs to get more information out of the prisoners would be nice. That way the pictures aren’t just a torture thing that the governments are ignoring and are used for a birthday party they’re also getting information. It ties all the offers you make in the beginning of the sketch together better.

Smiles and Frowns – Mark A.
I drew: Boo

I feel like the twins were kind of thrown in there; it’s a nice and gentle twist going from Frowns being the one to try and make Smiles feel better about his situation to being the one who was being insensitive. I think it could have been a lot more dramatic, have Frowns and Smiles be in even more conflict. Have Frowns have a more extreme reaction to Smiles’ negativity, and let him have that reaction sooner in the sketch that way the pace will quicken and dramatic tension will increase.

Team Morale – Jen
I drew: Ramble

I’m glad I drew this because I don’t really review my own sketches but this time it worked out based on the number of slips I put into the bowl. Anyway, Jim you were right on guessing my inspiration for this sketch: the coach who gave his player the “crybaby” award. So good job, I was really impressed.

Also, Jim, you mentioned in a post to JPIII (btw, there is a JPIII and a JP Ragan. Most people refer to JP Ragan as JP and JPIII as JPIII. I just don’t want there to be unnecessary confusion, I think we know who you’re talking to/about but there have been a few times when I was confused. It’s like one year in choir there were three Jen’s in the class so one of us had to be Jennifer, another Jenny, and another Jen because no one wants their individuality stolen because of a name.) Anyway, you said that you thought your jokes were funny at the time and then had some second thoughts, and I just wanted to say that that feeling is totally normal. Almost every week when I turn something in I always end up second guessing and wondering where I can improve or if I messed it up. I’ll be talking about WU when I get there, but while it’s always awesome to ask for input (and I apologize that I’m often too busy to give adequate advice) I think most people wonder if what they did was as funny in retrospect as it was in creation.

Time After Time – JP Ragan
I drew: Boo

Sorry man, but the paper bowl has spoken. I think this would be a lot better seen than read, it’s entertaining and original but easily gets confusing with the “be me later” and “you want a piece of you” type language and with all the time traveling its easy to get mixed up and a tad lost because this scene does have a reasonably quick pace. So, I don’t know how much clarity you could provide on paper, but I think this would be to see live.
