the 2011 texas cinderella state pageant was a total ass kiss. All the directors kids won the big titles from recycled preliminary judges who already had their favorites picked out from previous competitions. The titles were recycled also. They kept it "all in the family". And it is very intriguing that not a single soul has complained. I cant handle pageants anymore. 6 years and call me done. Politics are a bitch. Ridiculous.

Subject: American Spirit Pageants Now Accepting State Delegate Applications

American Spirit Pageants is a wonderful system that allows young women an opportunity to showcase themselves, network with other people and give back to their community all at the same time. This year we are hoping to have as many state pageants as possible. However, we are accepting “At large” Delegate applications for each state until a state director has been selected and a state pageant scheduled. To determine if a state pageant has been scheduled for your state visit http://www.americanspiritpageants.com/state-links/ and click on your state. If there is a state pageant scheduled it will be posted there and you will need to compete in the state pageant and win in order to compete at our national pageant. If there is no state pageant yet scheduled you may apply for an “At large” berth by going to http://www.americanspiritpageants.com/delegate-application/ and filling out the application.

There are four divisions in each state (Teen Miss, Miss, Ms. and Mrs.) which will compete at the national pageant.

The national American Spirit Pageant will be held April 4-7, 2012 at Disney’s Coronado Springs resort. All state delegates (state pageant winners and “At Large” selectees) will participate in a number of events and photo opportunities. ASP Queens shall be expected to make appearances on behalf of their state for their full reign. ASP is the only national pageant system that incorporates fundraising into the competition.

Please feel free to apply online right away at americanspiritpageants.com or call National Director, Dennis VanDerGinst, at 888-801-8855 for more information.

I have sold brand new hard, plastic clear Photo protectors for years and I have sold to so many on thsi board and have not ever received any complaints. Anyways, I sold 3 photo protectors to Jayne Martin and I rushed to post office to mail that day, and today I get thsi rude email. I don't take threats or bad language emails. My advice is talk to others like you want to be talked to. I am not sure what your problem is, why your acting like this but I wanted to share with others before as you say "Trash me"
This is email I got, first time I have heard from them since they got the protectors:

Oh my! All the photo protectors have a slight bue tint to them. It has never hurt my child's scores, because everyone has them. Poor Kim! (NT) -- ., 10:44:50 04/29/04 Thu
I can tell you from experience that this entire family is wacko and everyon in the pageant community would be wise to stay far far away from the Martins (NT) -- jmho, 10:46:23 04/29/04 Thu
I have to say, I ordered photo protectors from Kim and she delivered VERY fast and they were nice! I think this family is just looking for a reason to gripe! Kim, I know the photo protectors are of nice quality and will continue to use you in the future! (NT) -- PM, 11:01:10 04/29/04 Thu
Kim, in the future, steer FAR away from The Martins...they are the phoniest, stuck up, rude, and vindictive family, and i say family because it is ALL of them, in the pageant world today. (NT) -- The parents slam everyone, and the little girl, is a total brat, and a rude little snot to everyone, including those in her group! (been there, dont that...stay away!) poor kim., 11:01:11 04/29/04 Thu
LOL, THE HEADSHOTS LOOK LIKE A JOKE IN BLUE?? LMAO, I THOUGHT THEY LOOKED LIKE A JOKE ANYWAYS!! HA HA HA HA. (NT) -- KIM, DONT SEND OUT THEIR PROTECTORS, OR GIVE THEM BACK THEIR MONEY...THEY ARE THE TYPE THAT JUST WANT TO COMPLAIN, AND WILL NEVER BE HAPPY. THEY COULDVE BEEN NICER TO YOU!, 11:04:33 04/29/04 Thu
The photo protectors I bought from a sports store do not have a blue tint. I paid 2.00 a piece for them, no shipping. (NT) -- Helping, 11:05:43 04/29/04 Thu
Which sports store are you talking about? Would love to get some that aren't blue tinted!!! (NT) -- ?, 11:08:26 04/29/04 Thu
Geez...mental note....never sell anything to the Martins....thanks for sharing Kim....we need to know who to stay away from! (NT) -- Give them their money back....good riddens to bad rubbish!, 11:16:40 04/29/04 Thu
You can get them at almost any sports memorbilia store. I got mine at Town East Mall in Mesquite. (NT) -- Helping., 11:29:53 04/29/04 Thu
Never had seen blue tinted ones.... we always use clear and get them from a photo shop. That being said....there is still no reason someone should act like an a crazy person and cuss and make threats!. I thought with a name like Steve Martin...this was a joke. But I guess no one is laughing .... except at him. (NT) -- Kim, please be carefull of someone like this and report their abusive lanuage and threats........you never know!, 11:56:07 04/29/04 Thu
just pointing out.... -- don't know the martins, but these posts require my input, 11:49:54 04/29/04 Thu
OMG...are we Bad or what! when does class have anything to do with money???? think you are getting it confussed.... money does not make your a better person than someone else. You can class and no (or very little) money or like yourself....have money and no class!!! (NT) -- Someone who has both but nows that it's not everything in this whole!, 12:04:50 04/29/04 Thu
Typo's Sorry Have class but knows now (NT) -- Guess you can have class, money & still not beable to spell> ha anyway not sure who is right but don't like the bashing.... and think if you have a business related problem you need to handle it in a business manner! (that includes the Martin's), 12:11:08 04/29/04 Thu
just pointing one more thing out.... -- articulation = class sometimes, 12:21:27 04/29/04 Thu
My aren't we a sycophant (and no it is not misspelled Mr. Martin) break out your handy Websters you seem so fond of and look it up...you claim to have so much class yet you are bashing the entire community, alleging that we all require three seats and live in trailers. ..how classy of you. Stop trying to run damage control bedlamite. (NT) -- Some people don't know when to own up to their own indiscretions., 12:39:04 04/29/04 Thu
okay one more thing to "point" out.... or whatever.... -- Not Mr. Martin - you wish you knew who, 13:00:21 04/29/04 Thu
Don't know the Martins, huh? Geez look in the mirror Mr. Martin, you are not fooling anyone with your annonymous post. As for your family having money, perhaps you should use it to go to a dentist and clean out that potty mouth of yours, as for class, can't be bought - so you are out of luck there. As for Monica, she is a chip off the old block huh? (NT) -- Enough Said, 12:14:43 04/29/04 Thu
We have a stack of over 30 photogenics and I can guarantee you that almost everyone of them has a bluish tint when the photo isn't in them (NT) -- I can't stand KB, but I know that the comments about them not being blue is false., 13:04:56 04/29/04 Thu
Sounds like a Martin, looks like a Martin, speaks like a Martin, It's got to be Mr. Martin. Where there is smoke there is fire. Your not fooling anyone. Class does not equal money. Anna Nicole Smith, Howard Sterns, Jerry Springer all have money but ZERO class. -- Get over yourself Martin family cause you're not all that., 13:25:58 04/29/04 Thu
I think it's Monica doing the posting! Sounds like something a stuck up snob would say, trying to make themselves sound better than everyone else!! (NT) -- !, 13:28:58 04/29/04 Thu

My Life as a Pageant Princess
By Kristin Lee Hamerski
Printed in PHS #49, 2002.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"And the new Miss Alaska Junior National Teen-Ager is... Contestant Number Three, Kristin Lee Hamerski!" At that moment, so many thoughts and emotions ran through my head. I was mystified, excited and curious about the road ahead.

This one event changed so much of my life. Yet most homeschooled girls seem unaware of the possibilities and benefits of pageant competition. Let me share with you what I've learned about how the pageant process works, and how to do well in a pageant.

The Benefits of Winning a Pageant

Need college money? A pageant may provide what you're looking for! At the state competition I not only won the title, Miss Alaska Junior National Teen-Ager, but I also won the Volunteer Community Service Award, the Citizenship Award (leadership), the Essay/Speech Award, and over $30,000 in scholarships to mostly Christian colleges. Many other girls competing in the program won scholarships and other awards; this program doesn't just give all the awards to one girl.

After winning the Miss AK Jr. title I was very excited to begin my one-year reign. I started by attending many different functions: The Alaska Women's Show, homeschool conventions, The Air Show, volunteer events, and many, many more. I met with many politicians, sharing with them what homeschooling means to me, as well. I also spoke before organizations, such as The National Rifle Association's Convention. I have also continued donating my time to Special Olympics; I am working on becoming a certified Special Olympics Figure Skating Coach!

Although I truly enjoyed all the functions I went to, I especially was thrilled to be featured in parades around the state. I celebrated our patriotism at the Fourth of July Parade, and enjoying our Alaska heritage in the Alaska State Fair Parade and the Fur Rendezvous Parade. My year was amazing in so many ways.

Finally, even if you enter and don't win any of the prizes, you'll have gained valuable experience in poise and presentation skills. And for younger girls looking forward to future pageant competition, knowing you'll be asked about your community service and academics, and that everyone will be able to see the results of your physical education program, may provide some focus and incentive to work harder in these areas.

What Is the National Teen-Ager Program?

Alaska's National Teen-Ager Scholarship Program is the local level (for my state) of America's National Teen-Ager (ANT). This program is not for models, so you don't have to be a size 1 to win; it's for real girls with strong academics and ambition. Furthermore, and perhaps most importantly, this program is predominantly Christian.

ANT has two age groups: Junior for ages 12-15 and Senior for ages 16-18.

First, and by far one of the most important aspects of the competition is putting together a professional Application. The Application is a summary of your academics and grade-point average (GPA), along with your awards, hobbies, other honors, and volunteer work. Homeschoolers can have their parents prepare transcripts on the computer, putting the name of the homeschool, list of classes, and grades, which is needed for competition. Some of the hobbies I listed were: dog showing, figure skating, arts & crafts, singing, guitar, hiking, Church, and spending time with my family. The honors section includes some awards, but is used more for an honor, such as being published in a magazine. My main focus in volunteer work is working with Special Olympics, but you can list as many organizations or people that you have volunteered for as you wish.

Secondly, there is an interview portion. There are about five or six judges and you have about 3-5 minutes with each judge. At the state level interview you discuss the information on your application. If you win your state competition and proceed on to the National level the questions will then be centered on your state as well as your application. For the interview portion a nice suit or dress is appropriate. One of the best tips for success I can give here is, remember the judges are people too. Just think of it like you're meeting a new friend, God will help you with the rest!

Thirdly, ANT also includes an evening gown competition. It's lots of fun getting all dressed up in a big fancy gown. Everyone enjoys this part. You are shown how to walk on stage. Each girl is graded on her personality and poise. So smile big!

Lastly, at the state level girls get the option to compete in either Talent or Essay/Speech. If you don't want to compete in either of these it won't affect winning the title; however, I found it very helpful with stage practice. Talent can be just about anything, I usually sing. Try to choose a song, dance, or musical selection the judges might know. Choose something famous from a musical or other well-known piece, or something that has strong emotion. Also, keep in mind that what you choose should reflect your belief and personality. The Essay/Speech competition is the other option open to contestants. You receive the opportunity to write an essay on "What's Right About America" or about your volunteer community service work. Then you memorize your essay and deliver it. Be very true to yourself; write about what you believe in and project that belief to the judges and the audience. I have truly enjoyed this aspect of the competition, mostly due to the fact that I love to express myself.

What It's Like at the National Competition

The trip to Nashville, Tennessee, for the National competition was a truly wonderful event. I stayed in the world-famous Opryland Hotel for a week and every day was jam packed full of exciting and new experiences. Besides the museums, and historical places, and of course shopping, all the state queens did have to get ready for the National competition. Everything was about the same as the state competition, just bigger.

Again, your application is very important. Interviews are a close second. Remember, know your application, and feel comfortable talking about it. For practice I usually get my adult friends to interview me. This is very helpful and it can be a lot of fun. In addition, there is the Evening gown competition and each state queen is required to compete in Talent or Essay. These competitions are all concluded before the actual finals night. Finals night consists of an upbeat opening dance number (all appropriate dancing), and a production number for each of the two age groups, juniors and seniors. The top talent and essay winners perform, and then the moment everyone waits for all weekɠthe naming of the winners. When I was named into the Top 10 it felt as if I could do just about anything!

After Nationals I was blessed to go on a "Santa U.S.A." trip to Dallas, Texas, with many other state queens and the National Director. This was a volunteer trip dedicated to bringing Christmas to those who otherwise wouldn't have a very merry one. Together we visited nursing homes, elementary schools, and the Scottish Rite Hospital. We handed out presents and candy, gave autographs, took pictures, and sang Christmas carols. To me, that Christmas brought home the true sense of the blessing I have in my faith. Never take for granted the success you already have.

In January of 2002 I was honored to be invited to a speech President Bush gave at one of our Alaskan Air Force Bases. I will forever remember and treasure that day; his speech gave me another reason to stand by my beliefs. Then in March of 2002 I went down to Orlando, Florida, and greeted people from all over the world at Walt Disney World.

I feel blessed to have had these opportunities to meet people from all over the USA, and the world, people who I can share my faith with and people who I will cherish as friends forever.

Kristin didn't start out as a glamorous pageant princess! Here's Kristen's tips for how a nice, normal girl can upgrade to pageant quality.

A Beautiful Mind

Learn as much as you can. Beauty and brains are a knockout combo!
Have the correct mindset. Life is precious. Enjoy every minute!
Think positive. Beautiful thoughts equal a beautiful person.
Go to pageants and watch the winners. Study poise, walking, and on-stage questions.
Use the Internet to research pageants.
A Beautiful Body

Fitness: Make exercising fun, play sports, walk the dog, hike, (any fitness activity you enjoy) etc.
Nutrition: Eat all kinds of different foods, but in moderation. Combine this with the correct amount of vitamins.
Appearance: Use make-up, and pick clothes that compliment you. Don't try to be someone else. Beauty is unique to every person.
Go to your local department stores (J.C. Penny, Nordstroms, etc.). The people there can help you figure out what make-up colors, and what clothing colors/styles fit your body type and personality. These store's makeovers are usually done for free. Also, many hairdressers give free professional image consultations.
A Beautiful Soul

Let your inward beauty shine through. Your faith is part of who you are; let it shine in you!
Focus your energy on showing who you are as a person. Set goals, strengthen your weaknesses, and keep strong your strengths.
The best beauty tip of all... smile, it's irresistible!
Among her many other achievements, 16-year-old homeschooler Kristin Lee Hamerski is the 2001 Miss Alaska Junior National Teen-Ager and a three-time Grand Champion winner in the Alaska State Fair. She has taken First Place in the State Science Fair and is a National and Grand National award winner for National Junior Horticultural Association. Are America's living dolls still living a nightmare?
Last Updated: 12:01am GMT 17/11/2006Page 1 of 6

Red Bull, fake teeth and hair extensions – yes, the junior beauty pageant season is under way. And, 10 years after JonBenet Ramsey's murder, Michael Shelden discovers that little has changed in that bizarre world

Your view: pretty or provocative?
In pictures: a very peculiar practice

The beauty queen flashes a big smile and stares straight into the video camera like an old pro, not batting an eyelid.

The taste of victory: Regan Licciardello
Surrounded onstage by balloons, teddy bears and trophies almost twice her height, pretty Regan Licciardello accepts her cash prize of $1,000 and proudly shows it to the crowd at the Universal Royalty Pageant in Austin, Texas, fanning out the banknotes like a gambler's winnings.

"Make sure we position the money just right," the pageant director says from offstage. A moment later the display of notes across her winner's sash is in perfect alignment with Regan's smile. It is the kind of pose you'd expect of a Vegas showgirl, but this girl in a sequined dress and heavy make-up is only five years old.

It has been 10 years since the death of JonBenet Ramsey, who was a beauty queen at six, and whose unsolved murder cast a spotlight on the glitzy and fiercely competitive world of children's pageants. Almost every story about the murder carried images of JonBenet dolled up like an adult, staring vacantly into the camera or prancing onstage in a cowgirl outfit singing: "I want to be a cowboy sweetheart."

When John Mark Karr – an itinerant teacher with an obsession about young girls – was briefly held as a suspect in her murder earlier this year, people leapt to the conclusion that he had once stalked her. Old footage of her grainy videos was aired again, making it seem that the bizarre world of pre-pubescent showgirls belonged to the past.

advertisementBut it never went away. Thousands of American mothers are still painting eye shadow and lip gloss on their little daughters and entering them in pageants week after week, as I discovered this month.

More than 3,000 beauty contests for children are held in America each year. One of JonBenet's titles was "Little Miss Colorado", but the epicentre of the pageants is Texas, where the competition to win a major title on the popular Universal Royalty circuit is intense.

What I found there earlier this month at the start of the pageant season in Texas is that JonBenet's old cowgirl routine wouldn't raise an eyebrow. If anything, it would be regarded as a little tame by parents whose determination to make their daughters glamorous hasn't been affected in the least by the unsolved case of the murdered queen.

Pageant moms, I wish some of you would take more time to make YOUR appearance better. Some of you are so sloppy! No makeup, horrrible clothes, and some look like they just got out of bed, and your children look like dolls...as a judge i see you moms and i think it takes away from your children. Im not talking about a weight issue, im talking about looking neat and CLEAN! -- fed up JUDGE, 11:37:10 04/26/04 Mon

the biggest problem i see this in is the 2-3's, 4-5's a mom that has 2 girls, and a mom to a 10 yr old. (NT) -- these moms may be nice, but PLEASE take PRIDE in your appearance!, 11:41:14 04/26/04 Mon
what mom are you talking about with 2 kids? Surly you are not talking about shannon? she always looke nice! Where do you people come up with this stuff??? (NT) -- ?, 16:19:42 04/26/04 Mon
I do understand where you are coming from! People shouldnt take this as a bash! But when your daughter looks absolutely gorgeous, they are going to look from the them to you, the mother! I have watched in the past, and normally in the baby group the moms whom are dressed up and sometimes even match the babies, have scored much better then the moms whom looked like they just got out of bed! When my daughter was lil I dress a couple times to match her, and the judges even wrote on the score sheets they were excited to see a matching pair on stage! I think my daughter does better when I dress up too, she thinks its a big event and she is the shinning star the reason I too am dressed up! She also does better on stage! (NT) -- jmo, dont start a bash with this! I think the moms on GMA looked great this morning!, 11:45:17 04/26/04 Mon
Goodness where did this come from? Did someone not look presentable this weekend? (NT) -- ?, 12:25:27 04/26/04 Mon
Though it does look horrible for a mom to not try to look presentable, it should NEVER reflect on the child. If any judge says any different, then they are very UNPROFESSIONAL and biased. (NT) -- Have to judge that CHILD for their performance that DAY only!, 12:35:34 04/26/04 Mon
Stewart always looked great in his tux with baby Kria...that was an awesome group. Another mom that should be proud is Alisha and baby Cassadee...sooo cute together. (NT) -- A certain baby in the 2-3 stands out in my mind as having a tacky mom..too bad, beautiful little girl, and it dont seem to hurt her that her mom is a slob, she is a winner!, 12:37:34 04/26/04 Mon
I agree with this Judge 100% I see moms that look like they just woke up! I dont do pageants that much anymore I go watch and I have to agree with this judge!!! come on mothers you can look better than this! (NT) -- an ex pageant mother/judge/spectater, 12:39:29 04/26/04 Mon
One of the very first things my childs pageant coach told me was how proud she was that I took pride in my appearance. No blue jeans or shorts and tshirts just as your child is a representative of you so are you for her or him. DO NOT think the judges never walk around or look around the audiance because they do. Looking neat takes such a small amount of time, and your children will appreciate it also! (NT) -- Vickie, 12:50:06 04/26/04 Mon
Well gee, maybe some of us "no-makeup" moms are pretty enough as is,lol!!! Give me a break people....you will find ANYTHING to complain about. Get a life please. (NT) -- ., 12:45:38 04/26/04 Mon
I don't have a little one, but I've noticed that when the mom or dad is wearing mostly black and is behind the little one, the contestant really shows up good! (NT) -- jmo, 13:32:44 04/26/04 Mon
OK, I have to say this, you think you as a mom is pretty enough without all the makeup and clothes, what is that saying about what you think of your child? Your little baby looks better in makeup, but you dont? Come on people grow up. You insulted your own beautiful child just to defend yourself being a slob. (NT) -- me, 13:33:38 04/26/04 Mon
Grow up people....I was being "funny" when I typed the "no makeup" thing. SHEESH! Oh, but FYI, I do think my child is prettier w/ out makeup. She wears makeup for pageants for lighting reasons. Bright lights = washed out face if there is no makeup. Same goes for dance, theater, cheer competitions, so on. Now, lets move on shall we "ladies"??? (NT) -- ., 13:54:27 04/26/04 Mon
Actually, it isnt even a makeup issue...but gosh, BRUSH YOUR HAIR! Put on a shirt that doesnt have holes and stains! Wear jeans that fit and that arent too big or too tight, and that dont have smudges and smears on them! (NT) -- It takes only a minute to look nice neat and clean! You children are wearing 1000.00 dresses and your wearing something that looks like you found it in the goodwill needy bin and didnt wash it!, 15:01:58 04/26/04 Mon
Ugh, look......I do not know who you are refering to, but enough already. I really don't judge the moms, and if if you quit judging them then you might have a more productive life. Just a thought sweetie! I guess a little doll outscored your little doll and all you can do is bash a mom. Wanna cookie for your effort? (NT) -- ., 15:44:31 04/26/04 Mon
Actually..sloppiest moms are dustys mom, catarinas mom, sydneys mom, and benjis mom dresses like a guy. (NT) -- you wanted names? there ya go. want more?, 16:08:25 04/26/04 Mon
As a mother to a baby I know that your apperance can reflex on the child. I usually end up wearing more make-up on a pageant weekend than I would on a typcial day. Plus I always either match her or make sure to wear basic colors that won't clash (NT) -- Me, 15:07:34 04/26/04 Mon
If i were bashing someone because they beat my daughter as you say, i would be naming names,...this is a general message to all sloppy moms, (NT) -- you must be one of them., 15:51:35 04/26/04 Mon
If i were bashing someone because they beat my daughter as you say, i would be naming names,...this is a general message to all sloppy moms, (NT) -- you must be one of them., 15:51:51 04/26/04 Mon
Ok I can take sloppy no makeup moms, but I can't handle loud. (NT) -- It is so distracting to have a mom jumping up and down, yelling and screaming right behind you. Mom please remember the judges you are standing behind can hear everything. Loud and Low., 15:59:55 04/26/04 Mon
sloppy moms: dustys mom, catarinas mom, sydney's mom, brookes mom, "sassys" mom, cami's mom, julians mom, mikaylas mom, journeys mom, brooke b's mom, and blakes mom...(there are more!) (NT) -- these moms are also EXTRA loud!, 16:16:37 04/26/04 Mon
if your naming names (NT) -- why don't you finish, 16:20:16 04/26/04 Mon
And PLEASE, for the love of God, moms with little ones, PLEASE do not wear low cut shirts or very short skirts. When you lean over, we don't want to see what looks like an udder (NT) -- Also, when you squat down with the babies, we don't need to see what color panties you're wearing. I judged once, and she wasn't wearing any!!! EWWWWWW , 16:20:29 04/26/04 Mon
Hi! This is in response to the person who complained about moms wearing jeans and t-shirts, esp. ones with stains. I know that my fixes her hair and puts on makeup on pageat days but usually wears jeans and a t-shirt so that when she is helping with my makeup or using hairspray, she doesnt mess up any good clothes. (NT) -- Also they are easier for her to move around in to help me change and carry things from our room to the ballroom!, 16:25:35 04/26/04 Mon

NEWS FLASH!!!!! --
Attention to those who donated to the Biggs family through "Julie"...
This is just a note to let you know that those of us who questioned her were RIGHT! She took your $1,000+ and ran! The family has yet to see a cent! This is the family who lost their daddy in a car accident, they were all left physically and emotionaly damaged. This "Julie" took advantage of them!

It was great to see the pageant world so caring and comming together for a good cause and here this woman took advantage of you all!

Julie is really Julia Poff, infamous for her scams in texas (just see board 13909). She claims to have sent three seperate money orders to the family - who have openly said not a cent had been received - but the money orders were convieniantly lost. Suprise you? Shouldn't.

There you go, you have been let in on the storm brewing in Texas (once again). That freakishly obsessed Pooh-lover is holding another pageant soon - maybe you should go, let her know you don't appreciate her taking your money to pay for her daughters' pageant needs and not giving it to a family in need...

What a shame...

I DID MY OWN BACKGROUND CHECK AND FOUND FELONY THEFT AND FEDERAL PRISON TIME FOR ONE VERY POPULAR PAGEANT ORGANIZER, AND CRIMES FOR SOME OTHERS. I SUSPECT IF MORE INVESTIGATION WERE DONE, THERE WOULD BE CORRUPTION FOUND IN THE PAGEANT SYSTEM, ALTOGETHER, BUT DID NOT INVESTIGATE FURTHER. ALL CHILDREN ARE BEAUTIFUL. GET OUT OF THIS CORRUPT INDUSTRY THAT FEEDS ITSELF ON YOUR OWN VULNERABILITIES AND INSECURITIES. THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO BUILD CONFIDENCE IN YOUR CHILDREN WITHOUT EXPOSING THEM TO CRIMINALS WHO INDOCTRINATE THEM TO FEEL THEY MUST BE ONE WAY TO BE BEAUTIFUL.

I CHALLENGE YOU TO DO YOUR BACKGROUND CHECKS.

What on earth happened to the All American Pageant system? Last Year we paid part of the fees for Nationals, then Nationals were never held. We have requested a refund several times, but have never received any response or explaination. Like most pageant families we work really hard to give these kids a chance to shine. This is not the first line to suddenly turn stone cold silent, what is going on? We need more pageant fairly run lines in north texas, we have lost too many. Can anyone tell me what happened to AAF/

WARNING ABOUT INTERNATIONAL MISS -- TINA GILL, 07:13:59 04/12/06 Wed
As a Mom, I'm appalled at some of the pageant systems and the things they do. My daughter used to compete in INTERNATIONAL MISS. Unfortunately, we weren't happy with the NATIONAL OWERS, and the Texas Director, Doug Conn, started his own system, Today's Girl, so we're competing with him. I have friends that were National Reigning Royalty for International Miss. These girls were from Texas and won National Crowns. No where in the national paperwork does it say that these girls could not compete in another system, So the girls from Texas competed in a Today's Girl preliminary. International Miss airbrushed their pictures from the Official National Winner photo on their website (www.internationalmiss.com go check it out you will see two girls missing) Can you believe it? I would understand if these girls were told not to compete in other systems, but I have seen their paperwork and there is NOTHING that says National Queens cannot compete in other systems. International Miss did not even call the Moms and tell them they were doing it. I guess the next thing they will do is come take their crowns away and not let them give up their crowns at Nationals this year. But just wait there is more...INTERNATIONAL MISS LET TWO REGINING STATE QUEENS COMPETE IN ANOTHER STATE PAGEANT.."HANNAH" BALIEE STANFORD AND BREC BASSINGER In Stars over Texas, now why is it that the so called rules don't apply to these girls? (these are girls that choose to say with International Miss) I think that the National Owners are upset because Doug Conn was so successful for them and left them without any contestants in Texas, but instead of just moving on and trying to rebuild their system, they're punishing these little girls. I, for one, will NEVER put my daughter in another International Miss pageant unless better, more decent owners take over the system. It is shameful to treat little girls that way. International Miss cares only about the money, not about the girls! At this point I think the Better Business Bureau needs to be involed. I just wanted to warn everyone what kind of people these people are!!

Two things: 1. Doug Conn is as bad as the International Miss people. Time will tell. 2. Get your own board like Cinderella has. (NT) -- just a little helpful insight, 06:38:02 04/12/06 Wed
well that was rude!!!!!! she ws just tring to be helpful!!! Isn't that what this board is for DISCUSSION (NT) -- TRY TO A LITTLE FRIENDLIER, 06:41:57 04/12/06 Wed
Doug Conn just as bad? -- Tina Gill, 06:46:46 04/12/06 Wed
I DO appriciate the heads-up... We were considering doing their state pageant. We went to a prelim, but were the ONLY contestant there... They also DO have a message board- http://www.voy.com/200218/ Just for those who Didn't know- better inform yourself before making some comments. AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN- THANK YOU FOR POSTING INFORMATION ABOUT A PAGEANT BEING HELD HERE IN TEXAS ON THE TEXAS PAGEANT MESSAGE BOARD- IT HAS BEEN HELPFUL TO ME !!!! (NT) -- Nicole, 06:57:43 04/12/06 Wed
I just went to the site and can not believe that directors can do such a thing to little girls. My dd will never compete in this system. (NT) -- But you might like to try Our Little Miss, National American Miss, and American Coed Miss. all great natural systems., 06:40:34 04/12/06 Wed
hahaha!! What the heck are you talking about? The only person upset with Doug Conn are the people who write him bad checks!! And his directors bad checks...you know who you are! (NT) -- pm, 06:40:40 04/12/06 Wed
ttt (NT) -- nn, 06:53:55 04/12/06 Wed
I don't know who "Nicole" is but it is absolutely FALSE that an International Miss prelim only had ONE contestant. We have had FIVE prelims this Spring and all have had between 5 and 13 contestants. Nicole, please do not post false statements about our prelims! (NT) -- East Texas Director, 07:07:32 04/12/06 Wed
Maybe Nicole meant she was the only contestant in her division. The point is not how many people are there, its what the National directors are doing to Texas girls (NT) -- someone who knows, 07:13:59 04/12/06 Wed

Subject: TOP TEN THINGS TO REMEMBER IF YOU ARE A PAGEANT MOM AND WANT TO REMAIN A SANE ONE.

[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 02:10:36 07/17/05 Sun

Helpful info.Top 10
TOP TEN THINGS TO REMEMBER IF YOU ARE A PAGEANT MOM AND WANT TO REMAIN A SANE ONE.

10. No other pageant mom is your friend. Believe me, the ones that you think are your friends will be the ones that you find on the bash boards slandering your name. Believe me, been there done that. It hurts, but you will survive.

9. Bashers get their thrills when you defend yourself. As hard as it is don't go there. Once your child starts winning don't go there. 90% of the name children's mothers will tell you that they do not visit the blue, green, black, purple, or any color board, and they tell people not to email them and tell them crap is on there. Someone is always going to be unhappy their kid did not win and yours did.

8. Pageant Vendors, Pageant Coaches, Pageant Directors, H/M, Photographers, Clothing Designers are not your friends nor are they people you can trust. As soon as they are done gossiping with you, they will talk about you to the next person.

7. Pageants are expensive. Clothing, H/M, Photos, Clothing. DO YOUR RESEARCH, the only person that will tell you the truth is yourself. Ask lots of questions and rely on your instincts. FEW people will tell you how to hit the big time in an honest way. Everyone wants their beautiful daughter to win and will do what ever it takes to make that happen. Some of the things to ask the director when making a determination about a pageant are: What are the instructions that you give your judges, what are your judges experience, are they pageant moms or coaches, or other directors, photographers, etc. What are the points breakdown, how many for each catagory, within that how much for facial beaut, how much for clothing, how much for for modeling. What is mandatory for each Supreme title, what are you telling your judges to look for in modeling, photos, clothing. If the director is not wanting to answer your questions, THEN YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THEIR PAGEANT. That is my first clue.

6. Keep your so called friends close and your enemies closer. Clue: They are usually one in the same. Would you like to test that statement? Go to a big pageant with your best friend. If your daughter beats her daughter at the pageant, confess a large made up lie to your friend(sample would be, I had an affair with a photographer, I lied about blank blank blank, etc etc etc) Only tell this person, when you are alone out of earshot of others, don't tell anyone else. Wait and see if it shows up on one of the boards. Or if someone emails you and tells you the gossip. If it does they are not the friend you thought. Hence, Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

5. Don't GOSSIP, it will ruin you, it will ruin your child and it will ruin many a relationship

4. Pageant Mothers are not friends, with each other.

3. Pageant Mothers are not friends with each other.

2. Get some tough skin, and a deaf ear. People are cruel, mean and nasty.

1. Enjoy your child, Enjoy your wins, remain positive and live in the moment. Be happy, it is suppose to be fun. When it isn't fun any more then get out and move on to something you will enjoy. It is suppose to be about the children and their enjoyment.

It amazes me that people that have only competed in a few pageants think they can pull off being a pageant director. Why do you people even try? It only lasts 2 pageants at the very least. We need pageants that have stability like Gingerbread, CoverMiss, Cinderella, Stars Over Usa,and Majestic Creations.
We see what happens when small time pageant moms try to put on a pageant..it begins a name-game, and their friends win, or their fellow "pageant sisters" win. Its amazing when a GG director puts on a pageant, 90% of the contestants are GG's, and the girls that go to other coaches dont have a chance, even thought they are better.
Leave the pageant directing to the veterans.

Amen! And again, Amen! Of course you'll get bashed, but everyone knows it's the truth! (NT) -- Hurt them in the pocketbook. All of those people she tried to please can't compete next year---they are Royalty. No one else will go. This was a joke with a capital J. LOL!, 16:00:43 01/26/04 Mon
Every single one of these pageant directors started somewhere too. And I am sure they made their share of mistakes along the way. If you are talking about Summer's pageant, please be nice. She was very well-organized and had bad experience with a judge but has learned from that. He wrote on our score sheets that RaeLee's smile was too big and her hair was too perfect and she had her pageant walk down "too good". If that is his reasoning for his scores then he needs to go away and stay away from pageants! That is what she has worked so hard on. Another comment was that she lost too many beads from her ww. Ms. Summer, I know you didn't forsee his judging style and I know you did a good job on your pageant. We had a fun day. Congratulations on your first pageant and we will return to further support your system. (NT) -- Sam, 16:04:27 01/26/04 Mon

If you are talking about the secret pal pageant, I am sure that Julie will be the first to tell you that she knows hardly anything about putting on a pageant. She has been consulting with several that do know alot about putting on a pageant, many many others that have been in pageantry for years and years, and she has been asking for YOUR opinions the last few days. This is only for the secret pal program and I know for sure she expects nothing out of it but FUN! (NT) -- So don't even go there!, 16:05:13 01/26/04 Mon
Thank you for the support. Your right I know NOTHING about directing a pageant. I am consulting with several of the "veterans" and getting lots of support. If you have any questions, or suggestions I am willing to take them at usasecretpals@yahoo.com (NT) -- Julie, 16:13:04 01/26/04 Mon
You know what??? I knew this subject would arise.....you make it VERY clear who you are referring to and you need to grow up! Just because your little suzy q didn't win, doesn't mean you need to fish for excuses in WHY she didn't win. I bet you knew she was a GG director when you registered and didn't have a problem then, but after it's all over you gripe about it being a GG thing! Get a life!!!! (NT) -- Friend of a GG director!, 16:08:44 01/26/04 Mon
PGG gave away more stuff than some "season directors" who take the bucks, and give you a plaque, no matter where you place. Hats off to you Summer, we thought you did great. As far as GG's winning, they were the ones that came to compete, thats not their fault. If you did not come, dont complain. (NT) -- Pageant MOM, 16:21:54 01/26/04 Mon
I think many directors quit because as hard as they try people just are never happy. There becomes a fear of legal suits, mad mothers, mad fathers, and more. (NT) -- a little to much to handle, 16:37:50 01/26/04 Mon
I think the persons above need to think about what they are saying. I take offense to it because Julian did great, one of the best times i've ever seen her and you are making a blanket statement that the judge messed up the pageant. To me this is saying that Julian didn't deserve her win. She did. It was a tough pageant with a lot of talented kids there. I do agree that scoring the majority low and then scoring a few high ones gives advantage. But regardless, when you make statements like the above you are putting down the ones who came home with the titles. I also believe that Summer did a great job! She gave the cash and more than what she promised. Julian won $500 cash, a 3 cd stereo and several nice gifts for optionals. She had less turn out than what she expected and (cont) (NT) -- melissa, 16:54:41 01/26/04 Mon
what she needed to award all awards and did it anyway. As for her being a GG and all the GG's winning, it is a dumb statement. Of course GG's are going to go support the pageant. If I ever felt like it wouldn't be a fair pageant, I wouldn't support it no matter who it is. If you pay to enter a pageant, you take a chance that one of the judges or all 3 score weird. You are paying for their opinions. It is a gamble. As far as Summer knew, she was getting good judges. (NT) -- melissa, 16:56:04 01/26/04 Mon
Great post Melissa. I wish everyone would think about how their comments may affect others when the pageant does not go how they thought it should. (NT) -- jmho, 17:20:57 01/26/04 Mon
KAITLYNNE'S SECRET PAL LIVES IN TEXAS AND AS MUCH AS WE WOULD LOVE TO GO TO TEXAS FOR THE SECRET PAL PAGEANT, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE AS WE LIVE IN VIRGINIA. HOWEVER, JULIE IS A GREAT PERSON AND I KNOW THAT SHE WILL DO A GREAT JOB ON THIS PAGEANT. EVERYONE IN THE PAGEANT WORLD (AS WITH ANYTHING) HAD TO START SOMEWHERE. I AM SURE THIS IS GOING TO BE AN AWESOME PAGEANT FOR THE SECRET PALS TO MEET EACH OTHER. GOOOOOO JULIE! (NT) -- Miss Nancy in Virginia, 17:27:32 01/26/04 Mon

Who was the idiot judge at Platinum Girls & Guys ? I heard he lowballed several kids because he had his favorites picked . I hope I never run into this fool . Lots of talk about him and I hope I never see him at a pageant . I am so glad I did not go and have to deal with his stupidity . I can't believe he actually called someone's kid ugly ! Sounds like he needs a reality check! -- my opinion, 13:47:53 01/26/04 Mon

You were not even there, And you post this stuff????? Hear say is all that it is!! You have no right to come on here and say this stuff, WHEN YOU DID NOT EVEN GO! Was he Tim Arrington or a black man ? Have seen both judge. (NT) -- very curious who were the judges, 14:31:34 01/26/04 Mon
He signed his sheets, Eric. I don't know who he was but he put on our sheet that we might try colored socks to match our dress next time. My child placed well, but if he was as bad of a judge on some of the other score sheets as he was on mine, then I think this could explain why some of the kids did not win what they should have gotten. Some won things that they weren't as strong in as others and others won things that should've gone to someone else. Not saying kids our kids did not deserve their wins, just saying it was all screwed up. I think he messed the whole pageant up. (NT) -- just my opinion - take it for what you will, 14:43:57 01/26/04 Mon
Colored socks??? with a Beauty dress??? (NT) -- ??, 14:45:35 01/26/04 Mon
PLEASE Colored socks to match a beauty dress !!! Is this for real ??? (NT) -- ???, 15:31:14 01/26/04 Mon
I heard from several people that the comments on their score sheets were ludicrous! Also, heard that the master score sheet had mistakes. (NT) -- This is aside from the fact that some were allowed to win their age division categories (SPW, CW, etc.) and Overall, but some were not!, 15:45:46 01/26/04 Mon
I have to agree. I think the pageant as a whole went well everyone did a wonderful job and for the most part the winners were right on. However there were a few things that were questionable, we had on score sheet not to smile as much, tone it down. All judges look for different things. (NT) -- Summer we thought you did a wonderful job with the pageant as a whole., 15:51:58 01/26/04 Mon
My score sheet in sportswear and western from the man said not to have her spin so fast???and one in beauty that said she should not have painted nails??It was a french manicure that we wear at EVERY national.SCREWED byt his ol fart!! (NT) -- MAD, 15:58:46 01/26/04 Mon
Hasn't anyone asked Summer where this judge was from and who got him for her? He sounds familiar. (NT) -- Who were the other judges and where from?, 16:15:59 01/26/04 Mon
You can blame the judge, but the director claimed she had 4 out of state judges who didn't know anyone. (NT) -- The director screwed this one up!, 16:16:05 01/26/04 Mon
I have to agree I personally did not think the judges were qualified! I felt like some winners were way off. Did anyone get good photogenic scores? ours were horrible lol. Did the judges score low? Although we won we had the lowest scores ever. (NT) -- pm, 17:05:46 01/26/04 Mon

dnd -- Mammy, 21:26:53 10/25/07 Thu
DOTS 'N' DAISIES IS ENDING!

I want to Thank every dots 'n' daisies family for all or your support. I have had
a wonderful experience at each and every dots 'n' daisies pageant.

Believe me, coming to this decision has been a long process, I have prayed for many months regarding this decision and I believe in my heart that this is the right decision for me and my family.

There has been many different reasons for this decision and I believe I owe my dnd family
an explanation.

One very important reason is my Grandbabies, Kaylie and Kenzie. I have for the past 16 months put precious time aside for the pageant instead of spending "Quality" time with the two most precious people in my life.

Next, my wonderful Husband. Months and months I have spent hours way into the morning on the computer and focusing on the pageant. He has been a wonderful backbone and support to me and gave me full reign to focus on my dream. But he deserves better and I miss him.

Then there is my beautiful two daughters:

Tasha, my best friend and my side-kick. The week after
Nationals she ask if I would just spend the day with her. She put Kenzie in daycare and Kaylie was at school, and the first time in "like forever" we just had a day together and it was wonderful.

Tiffany, my youngest daughter, has probably suffered the most. Some of you have met her or heard about her. She doesn't like crowds. She has autisim. She is 24 years old and a beautiful girl. But she misses her Mommy
and I miss her too. You can see someone everyday and not spend "Quality" time with them. There is a huge difference.

You see, Living my dream, to run a successful business, has affected all the people that I hold dearest
in my life, however they all supported me. I am a very lucky lady. I am surrounded by love and support and
now that I have done this so called "Dream", I realize it's time to just enjoy my family!

The pageant business has to be one of the most difficult business' anyone could have ever chose. No matter what you do for the children its the title that counts. Every pageant has the Grands and the Divisional titles.
Every parent is there for the best title (of course).

I knew this going in as I was a Mammy of two pageant girls. I too was as bias as every other pageantparent out there. We bought in to the entire process..the best of the best. It took a while to understand that pageants were about "hard work" on the childs part (sometimes not their choice), lots of money and dedication from the parents and only a few really reached the top. However, I realized there is no real top. Todays title is tomorrows history. Only if it really makes a difference in the child's self esteem is it really important. How many of of children loose self esteem because they did not win. Only one in every pageant comes out on top. Yep that is life. But whos life? Ours as parents or our childrens? There are wonderful moments but they are few and far
between for most. After directing pageants for a while I choose to take my two Grandchildren out of pageants for this reason. I feel the competition is more about the parents than the children in too many cases.

The view from the directors side is very different. Everyone believes that the directors makes the money.
Well...that is so not the case and I would not advise anyone to get into this business and applaud those
that are still doing it. All the credit needs to go to the directors. The bashing first starts with the pageant
System, and yet this is their Business, and their is no re-course for all the rumors as all know these boards
are un-forgiving. Hint: Before you start complaining about costs and wanting discounts put these figures together: Costs for: Ballroom: Emcee: Judges: Cash and Gifts: crowns and Sashes..add paperwork, staging and decorations, tabulators, travel, hotel rooms, food, advertisement and hours and hours of work, plus plus. If the pageant cancels its bad for their reputation, so most regardless of contestants take a huge loss. These are the people that are judged, bashed and get all the flack. I have never heard of a contestant bargaining for discounts with a hair and makeup vendor or a coach. If every parent of a contestant were to hold a pageant prior to being able to compete it would be a completely different scenario.

The tanning, hair and makeup people will advertise to come....but usually will only come if they have booked enough contestants to pay expenses and make some money (this makes sense)...but then their are the contestants that book and don't show up... and then yes some of the vendors don't show up without even notifying the director and who is left to patch things up and stay on schedule? The director.

We have the photographers...to do the "GLITZ" photos. I believe there isn't one of these that has come to a pageant
with a full schedule with only a few that actually show up after booking a shoot yet we complain about their cost.

The only vendors in the entire Pageant Business that seems to make money and have control is the Coaches. The coaches in Texas seem to run the pageant world. They tell you what attire you should buy....who to do photos with....what pageants to do....they also seem to dictate who to be friends with and who you can cheer for. But.....we cannot blame them.....it is just what you pay them for....to make your child the best! As long as the parents continue to buy into this there will always be a HUGE separation between the contestants. Children are kept from being friends with each other. Bashing will continue on the boards. Parents will continue to fight amongst each other. Why?

I started dots 'n' daisies to try to make it different. I advertised "Experience dots 'n' daisies - We're New - We're Different"! We were different. Every child received fabulous gifts, all were crowned, no child was on stage if they were not getting an award. We accomplished our goal.

But because of my Tiffany, my daughter with autism, I have always advocated to raise up the children, to treat every child as unique, individual and wonderful as they all are. No matter how positive of a pageant experience I can give to every dots 'n' daisies Child, I cannot undo one parents reaction to their disappointment over a simple title.

I have had quite an experience the past 16 months. God has given me lifelong friends that I will always love.

Those of you who know me also know I am not one to sit back and not speak up for what I feel is right. This is not the best quality to have as a director, however, it is my best quality. This post will be my last but I hope it helps some prioritize and focus on the true goals they had when they began in pageantry.

I have seen a wonderful side of pageantry that lifts the childs self-esteem but most un-fortunately I have seen more than less a most negative side of competitiveness that happens all too often, leaving "US" the adults, all that are involved in pageantry Guilty.

Thank you to all who have supported dots 'n' daisies, my love to all of you.

Mammy

Not even knowing you, but simply observing all you did for all of your contestants and knowing you had to have taken a loss with your last pageant, I wish there was a "Mammy" in my pageant area to love my pageant kids and treat them as special as you have treated Texas pageant gals (NT) -- You will be missed... ~~Ultimate Grafx~~, 23:53:33 10/24/07 Wed
This is so sad that the genuine people are ultimately run out of pageants. (NT) -- so sad, 01:01:55 10/25/07 Thu
I dont believe coaches control the pageant world. People are only controlled if they let themselves be controlled. I think you had a nice pageant just that the fees were a bit high. 1200.00 for the package to do everything. The prize money did not balance out the fee. As a parent, it is our duty to show our children that is not the winning or losing that matters. Sometimes that does get lost in the weekend but pageantry is a fun hobby if you dont let it take over your life. (NT) -- Does this mean DND is over?, 04:38:41 10/25/07 Thu
Nevermind, I see that it has ended. (NT) -- PM, 04:39:52 10/25/07 Thu
Who ever said that it cost 1200.00. YOU need to get off drugs.. (NT) -- It is the Best system in the state of Texas, 04:47:44 10/25/07 Thu
Thats what the website said when I read the paperwork. I think that is why alot of people did not go. (NT) -- JMHO, 04:56:11 10/25/07 Thu
If you get on this board at least once every two weeks, you would have seen that Mammy graciously lowered the fees to $400 and $600 package deals. It was a BARGAIN! (NT) -- y, 05:10:35 10/25/07 Thu
BEST SYSTEMS IN TEXAS ARE NOVICE, A.J. PAGEANT'S ,CINDERELLA AND DDA ! (NT) -- THEY EARNED THE STATUS THAT THEY HAVE., 09:10:20 10/25/07 Thu
What is A.J.? (NT) -- ?, 09:25:45 10/25/07 Thu
Coaches do not make money from clothes, coaches don't make money from pictures, coaches don't make money off which pageants you do. They get paid by the hour like other jobs for coaching your child. (NT) -- PM, 04:58:45 10/25/07 Thu
I agree that coaches are a part of a larger problem. You have TKO's vs Strutters vs Amanda's...whatever! You don't see this "gang warfare" outside of glitz. Very silly and sad. And that's why a lot of kids and moms who do pageants as a HOBBY are getting out. Soon it will be the same 20 girls competing at every pageant, demanding more and more prizes and cash. (NT) -- m, 05:13:19 10/25/07 Thu
You are correct, they get paid by the hour but CM, AMA, DB etc all make OVER $100 an hour!!!! Most pageants families dont make 1/2 this an hour (NT) -- SAD!!! We have left the pageant world too...Everyone is money hungry, 06:06:40 10/25/07 Thu
CM makes 75.00 per hour. (NT) -- I know my daughter is her student., 06:15:53 10/25/07 Thu
Also if you want to be a "favorite one" you better see your coach at least 6 times a month!!!! (NT) -- We were doing this with our coach and she still didnt even cheer for my daughter. SAD!!!!, 06:08:03 10/25/07 Thu
Reality check - Many coaches do not love your child like you do. It is a JOB to them. Just make sure your payment is on time! (NT) -- x, 06:35:23 10/25/07 Thu
Maybe I'm naieve (sp?) but I don't see any warring going on with the coaches groups. My daughter plays with whoever she wants to at the pageants and her coach has never said anything mean about any of the other contestants. And we cheer for everyone, not just those in my daughter's group. Heck - I don't even know who

Next time my dd needs a banner I think I will post this under it. -- Anonymous, 21:36:21 12/09/04 Thu [4]
Thank you (Pageant Director) for the awesome fair pageant, it only cost my mommy and daddy $1250 to enter. And $15,000 over the last 6 years to line your pockets so I can have this guaranteed win.

Thank you (Hair and Makeup Artist) for the awesome Hair and Makeup that my mommy and daddy paid you $300 for and you got a free ad on my banner too, to promote your business (hehe) good thing I looked good.

Thank you (tanner) for the great dark tan, my parents have paid for 30 tans with you now, do you think that you could throw in my next one for free? Oh here is a plug for you under my banner too, there certainly is nothing like free advertising, saving you that $10 for a banner of your own.

I want to thank (Photographer) in some cases there are more than one. My parents paid anywhere from $300-$700 for a sitting fee with you, and then at least $150(that is the low end for a print) for my over digitalized photo that helped me win photogenic. I just love my pictures and so does mommy, she says that you are the bomb, ooooo.... Oh a free ad for you(all of you) too, we all know that you don't make enough money.

Oh Oh Oh (Swimwear) Miss Sandi Henry my swimwear is the bomb, you out did yourself on this one, out of the 3 you have made us, mommy likes this the best. It doesn't matter that there is only $15 worth of materials and it only took the lady that sews the shells for you 1 hour to put it together, I am so happy that we paid you $375 for it. This picture of me in it is so cute maybe we can get you a few more orders. Here is your free ad too. Maybe when we order our next swimwear you can give mommy a better deal?

Thank you (Miss Dress maker) This color looks good on me, unfortunately everyone is wearing this color combination. Oh well, it is a pretty dress and without it I would not have won Grand Supreme. You are welcome for the free ad even though you charged us $2700 for the dress and another $1500 for the sportswear.

Thank you (The finger and toe painter) Mommy was tired and does not have the patience to pain my toes and fingers, you are the bomb and they look so professional. You did not pinch my fingers or toes when you painted my nails, I will ask mommy if we can use your services again. You are welcome for your ad. I think that maybe we should be getting a volume discount from you too.

Thank you to (My coach) my routine is awesome, even though you only come to town once every 6-8 weeks, you are responsible for my success in modeling. Wow, I really think I ought to thank Mommy for making me practice. Wow, you have been my coach for a year now at $150 per hour and at least 2 hours everytime you come out, wow that has added up. Oh but you are worth it, I hope this ad gets you some more students and me an attaboy.

I want to thank (my wanna be coach) that works with me a couple days a week. I know that we only pay you $35 an hour, but you are worth it too. Here is your free ad, maybe we can get some other kids to coach with you too, since you are less money than my big name coach.

I want to thank (Mr. ?), wow when you sang to me on stage, I love that. Never mind that you spit on me when you were singing, I am so happy that you made me feel so special. My pageant experience would not have been complete without some gay man singing to me and exposing me to his germs. Yummy. Thanks for calling my name as a Winner. It was a thrill that my mommy and I will not soon forget. Maybe more pageant directors will use you at their pageants since I mentioned your name. Good Luck with that here is your ad, maybe I should include your email address too.

Thanks Mom and Dad, you are the best. You have taken a second mortgage on the house so that I can do a pageant 1/2 way across the country every weekend. It does not matter that we can't afford the extra payment, we will figure it out some how and maybe you can use some of my winnings to pay that bill.

Thank you Gran and Papie too without all that money we get from you we would be in more dire financial straights than we are.

I want to thank (the banner maker) it is okay that your name is bigger than mine on my congratulations banner. I only paid you $10 for you to cut out all my pictures by hand and make my banner special

And last but not least I want to thank Jesus for letting my light shine. I know that I am always at pageants instead of in Sunday school but I still think about you. Please accept this ad, and maybe more will come to know you.

Thanks to all my pageant friends(list them all) because we all know that because you are my friend and your mom is a pageant vendor - I am getting more wins. Thank goodness for mommy again, because I would not know who to be friends with, without her.

THIS IS SO SAD
LET ME START BY SAYING IF YOU DONT AGREE WITH WHAT IM WRITING YOU ARE DEFINATELY ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION SAME AS I AM AND
IM SURE I WILL GET BASHED FOR POSTING MY OPINION BUT AT THIS POINT I DONT THINK THERE IS ANYTHING YOU WONT GET BASHED FOR
THESE DAYS ON THESE PAGEANT BOARDS.
WHEN WE STARTED PAGEANTS IT WAS FOR FUN AND GAMES AND MAYBE MAKE A FEW NEW FRIENDS ALONG THE WAY TO SHARE OUR FUN
WITH. I FEEL IT HAS BECOME MORE OF A WAR THAN IT IS WORTH BETWEEN THE MOTHERS GOING AT IT ON THE BOARDS AND AT EVENTS TO
THE VENDORS CHARGING AN ARM AND A LEG FOR WHAT THEY KNOW YOU HAVE TO HAVE. PHOTOS DO NOT COST THAT MUCH TO TAKE PEOPLE, SO
WHY SHOULD WE PAY $2000 FOR A JUDGE TO THINK OUR CHILD IS FACIALLY PRETTY? AND I HAVE BEEN A SEAMSTRESS FOR YEARS AND DO IT
WELL AND I CAN TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCES OF MAKING MY OWN DAUGHTERS FASHIONS THAT THESE DRESSES YOU PAY $2000 FOR ARE A RIP OFF.
I HAVE BEEN MAKING MY DAUGHTERS DRESSES AND OUTFITS SINCE WE STARTED AND THEY ARE COMPARABLE TO TOP DESIGNERS AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT
IT DOES NOT COST HALF THAT TO MAKE A NATIONAL DRESS STONES AND ALL... I GUARANTEE IT! THEN YOU HAVE THE RIVALRY BETWEEN COACHES
WHICH LEADS ME TO QUESTION THE COACHES MOTIVES IN THE FIRST PLACE... ARE THEY IN IT FOR THE SAKE OF MY CHILD OR TO MAKE THEMSELVES LOOK
GOOD? WE DO FULL GLITZ SO THIS ISNT A NATURAL MOM COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING A GLITZ EVENT EITHER. YOU HAVE TO ADMIT THAT THE PRICES
OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR WHAT IT TAKES TO COMPETE LET ALONE WIN ARE OUTRAGEOUS AND WILL CONTINUE TO GET WORSE INSTEAD OF BETTER IF WE
KEEP LETTING VENDORS THINK THEY CAN CHARGE WHATEVER THEY WANT BECAUSE THEY KNOW WE HAVE TO HAVE THE PHOTOS, CLOTHES, AND PRACTICE.
IM NOT TRYING TO PERSONALLY ATTACK ANYONE HERE IM JUST FED UP WITH PAYING FOR SOMEONE ELSES MANSIONS ALL FOR THE SAKE OF A CROWN AND
TROPHY... WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FUN? WHATS IT ALL FOR? US OR THE KIDS? DO THEY REALLY KNOW THE DIFFERENCE? AND IF SO DOES IT MATTER
MORE TO THEM OR TO US? I KNOW SOMEONE WILL REPLY WITH "WELL IF YOU CANT AFFORD IT OR DONT LIKE IT THEN DONT DO IT ANYMORE", "IF YOU CANT
TAKE THE HEAT GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN"... UNTIL THE PRICES OF SOME OF THIS STUFF GOES DOWN WE WILL NOT BE BACK IN THE KITCHEN AND IF YOU
OTHER MOMS WANT TO GET THOSE PRICES DOWN YOU WILL LET THEM KNOW YOU MEAN BUSINESS BY GIVING THEM A TASTE OF WHAT ITS LIKE TO "NEED" SOMETHING
FROM SOMEONE ELSE... WE PAY THEIR RENT AND I THINK OUR MONEY HAS BEEN TAKEN FORGRANTED AND THE HOBBY HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HAND. THIS WONT
CHANGE UNTIL WE ALL HAVE HAD ENOUGH.

Ok I am sooo new to all this, my daughter is beautiful if i do say so my self!!! Sorry I had to boost a min, anyways for years people have told me she should be in modeling or something, finally I got it!. I went on the internet to do reserch and found all these pageants. But I am middle class-poor. So I can't afford all this, we have done the best we can. I was a stay at home mommy , but my daughter loves being center stage we did one pageant financed by grandma, we had no hair pieces no make-up and a regular old flower girl dress of course she didn't win. So she asked me when she could do it again because she had fun. I got a part time job at a pizza place. I got a dress shell on e-bay fixed it up alittle, and put her in another one, still no hair, but i put some of my make-up on her. There were only 4 girls , she didn't get supreme queen , but she got queen. Now I am addicted, and she is to . I fianlly just purchased her hair it is on the way , I got her a swimwear outfit on e-bay and another shell , this time I am going to do more research before i start sewing!!! But I am alittle down after reading this message board. IS IT ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN SPEND????? PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME. I have purchased a video to show me how to teach her to walk because I can't afford a coach. She has an attension spand of max 10 min. anyway. But She is beautiful and she has an explosive personality. She is going to be in the ALL AMERICAN MISS MINI NATIONAL in january do any of you think I am wasting my time effort and money? Please be honest but don't be mean about it ethier. THANKS!!!

I'm glad to hear the pageants are inconsistant it offers all children the opportunity to win. My daughter has been to two Sunburst and placed 2nd once and won overall beauty in the other. Personally I'm tired of walking in pageants and being able to pick the winner before they go on stage, simply judging them by the dress they wear. I wish more pageants offered judging that favored the "newbies" as your calling them. I'm assuming by newbie your refering to a simple dress and non rehersed answers. Personally I say How refreshing. Children actually being children!!!!

The comment about the boys was plain rude! How about saying boys 0-6 and leaving it at that! (NT) -- JMO. Boys age group to large would you let your One year old DD compete with a six year old? Think not!!, 13:46:33 08/20/06 Sun
Well, it most certainly wasn't meant to be rude, but psychologically boys do need to be in more masculine activities after the 'little boy' ages. I'm not saying they should not be in acting, dance, etc. They should! But pageants after the age of 6 should not be for boys, IMO. Showcase their talents in a more appropriate fashion for boys. Sorry, not meant to offend. AND the age groups for boys would not be 0-6, they would be 0-2, 2-4, 4-6, just as for the girls. I LOVE BOYS! I have 4 brothers and 4 sons! But I am not for the feminization of boys or men. Thank you. (NT) -- Mrs. Hunt, 14:47:07 08/20/06 Sun
Pageant moms of sons don't worry -- pm, 16:25:06 08/20/06 Sun
I believe it is rude as well. If a boy likes competing he should be allowed. Who cares what his age is! There are male models. Why not let them get their practice on the catwalk? (NT) -- Go Gettem' Boys!, 16:34:59 08/20/06 Sun
I have to agree. If the boys want to do the pageant, who cares? Each to their own. I will not impose my beliefs on someone else. (NT) -- PM, 16:36:33 08/20/06 Sun
How is wearing a tux feminine? Do you think girls should stop playing sports at the age of 6? Would that make them to masculine? Let the kids do what they want and STOP judging! (NT) -- PM, 19:31:37 08/20/06 Sun
Please post your email, I would LOVE more info on your system and to ask you to come to my area. (NT) -- Thank you, 16:01:03 08/20/06 Sun
you were rude -- pm, 16:34:55 08/20/06 Sun
I would like to apologize for the additional comment that was made after announcing the boys groups. It was uncalled for. I hope to see you moms & your beautiful boys at a prelim soon!! (NT) -- Kip & Cally Hunt, 17:24:58 08/20/06 Sun
I honestly believe (as an outsider reading this) that you just completely ruined your pageant and a part of your reputation, Mrs. Hunt. You were rude in the original posting, and even moreso in your follow-up explanation. Maybe "rude" isn't exactly the word, but wrong to say what you said is more like it.... (NT) -- Alot of people will have bad tastes in their mouths after reading your thoughts., 17:25:36 08/20/06 Sun
You are right. I am sorry. I do have personal reasons for feeling as I do about the older boys and pageants, but I should not impose those beliefs on anyone. I hope I can be forgiven for my carelessness and that OUR pageant will be given a fair shot. It is going to be great! I will gladly apologize to anyone in person as well. We are stand up, professional and caring people. I certainly erred in my choice of words. Please forgive me. (NT) -- Cally Hunt, 17:34:04 08/20/06 Sun
People will forgive. Many pageants do not have boys divisions at ALL, so mom's remember that too. (NT) -- PM, 17:55:31 08/20/06 Sun
yes, that is true....BUT they don't tell you that you are wrong and messing up your kid if you enter your son in their system!!!!!like the one poster said...say you take boys up to age 6 and leave it at that!! don't tell mom that she is making the kid gay if she enters an older kid!!!!!! (NT) -- that was just STUPID....LOL.....yeah...it will all pass...like everything does, but it will be fun watching this one for the next few days!!, 18:02:20 08/20/06 Sun
i have a 12 year old son who LOVES to play football, basketball, soccer and rugby. he plays tennis for the school...he is in the gifted and talented program at achool and on the honor roll...he loves to play video games, watchs sports on Tv and plays chess. he plans to go to harvard and serve a mission for his church! he is a an all american boy....tuff, but kind...he is Boy Scout and goes to church every sunday....he likes to fish , swim and ride 4 wheelers and jet skis...he started pageants as a baby and at 12...he still does them...is he gay???....NO!!! is he feminine?? HECK NO!!!! he is 100 % boy.....i think you shot yourself in the foot by making that post, this is his choice and i suport it DO NOT JUDGE me or HIM!!... i have three little girls who also do pageants. all four of my kids compete, but with your attitude...we will NOT be competing with you!!!! thanks, but no thanks....i can do without being bashed by my director!!! you are in Texas honey, good luck with that one!! (NT) -- proud pageant mom!!! candy, 17:42:07 08/20/06 Sun
Candy, I want to personally apologize for offending you. Your son sounds amazing. I am sure he is wonderful. We have 4 sons and two daughters. All of my boys have participated in pageants, mostly at younger ages. One of my son LOVES them as much as his other activities, just like your son. However, he was targeted at school and singled out because of it. It got so bad we had to seek professional help. The psychologist really changed my beliefs about pageants for him and what they mean for a growing boy. He still would love to do pageants and often helps to set up stages, work music, etc. We have found other ways to showcase his dance talents. I do not in any way feel participating in pageants will turn boys gay. -- Cally Hunt, 18:00:33 08/20/06 Sun
Please don't misconstrue what I said. But I do feel for my son that it was harmful for him because of what he was having to endure at school, etc. I am sorry I let me personal beliefs interfere with our announcement of what is going to be a GREAT pageant system!!! I truly did not mean to hurt anyone by what was said. I should have been more reserved about my beliefs and then after others get to know me, then they may understand why we are choosing not to have older age boy groups. Once again I am sorry. Your son sounds amazing and he is lucky to have you as his mama! (NT) -- it would not let me include this with the above post (too long) but here is the rest of what I was trying to say., 18:05:47 08/20/06 Sun
So you are not allowing your son to do something he loves to do because of what others say? OMG, the public even frowns on GIRLS doing pageants too. You should fire your psychologist as well if he/she is the one who told you pageants would make a male effeminate. (NT) -- The more your try to describe your reasoning, the worse it gets., 19:03:00 08/20/06 Sun
well, my son is popular and is not picked on at school....i cannot relate to this!!! sounds like you have other issues you need to deal with other than the pageants your son participated in!!!!!! everyone keeps telling my son that they think that he will be famous and think it is cool that he does pageants...and he does not hang out with dorks. he was nominated class duke at school. it is NOT the most conventional hobby, that i agree with. he has a great attitude about everything and a very high self esteem. no will tell him that he can't or shouldn't do anything...he is amazing and we taught him to live for your self and for God...not for other people....he has followed this advice and is now in 7th grade and is very confidant, self assured and very happy....and very straight!! LOL (NT) -- i think you were wrong in your comments and i think you have other issues that you need to work out with your own son!! please DON"T assume that we all have the same problems as you have!!!!! i am sorry...i hope that you all get the medical/phycological/mental help that you need!!, 19:25:10 08/20/06 Sun
if this is the case...then why in the hell did you start a pageant system when you son still wants to compete and you won't let him???? are you rubbing salt in the wounds??? that is soooo mean. (NT) -- get a life..., 19:56:45 08/20/06 Sun
You go Candy! My DS competes in pageants as well. Now, that we know this directors true feelings we will not be competing at this pageant. What a shame. we do need more pageants for boys...with an open older age group...10 and up. I am sorry the director's son had a bad experience. But some girls have bad experiences too. I read (in Patsy's) how some girls get made fun of at school for the spray tanning. That hasn't stopped the tanning and it hasn't stopped the girls from competing in pageants. Lets just all try to get along..cheer for the girls and the boys! They are all working hard...and they are all beautiful talented children! (NT) -- Yea Boys!, 18:26:19 08/20/06 Sun
Well,my daring dude Danzell loves pageants, He's and competes when he wants, he has always been 200% BOY. (NT) -- aGEHAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, 19:31:17 08/20/06 Sun
BOYS IN PAGEANTS....My son competed until he was 8 years old. He is 17 now and plays guitar, varsity football and is a skateboarder. He also has a steady girlfriend. (NT) -- He wants to be a marine sniper or a u.s navy seal when he gets a little older. His cousin, same age never competed in pageants and is interesting in other boys. DOING PAGEANTS DONT MEAN A THING. STOP STERIOTYPING!!!!!!!!, 19:41:55 08/20/06 Sun
PLEASE. I have apologized. I do not know what more I can do to make this situation better. This has been resolved - - we are ALL entitled to deciding what is best for our children, boys and girls. I do not judge others, I was only trying to explain why this was the best decision for us. I promise you would LOVE me and my family. We are in no way judgmental people. I cannot keep defending myself, because this is just getting more and more vicious. I just pray that whomever is offended will forgive me and give our system a try. Or not. Just please don't hold this against me or any of my children who will be competing statewide very soon. My youngest son still competes. (NT) -- I'm truly, deeply sorry, I do not know what more I can say. - - Cally Hunt, 19:51:21 08/20/06 Sun
you need to tell that to your son who wants to compete, but you won't let compete. (NT) -- i don't wanna hear it....., 19:59:58 08/20/06 Sun

Anybody have any news on the winners of Stars Over Texas State Pageant today. -- Crowning should just about be over. Please share,
Replies:
Hannah won the ultimate grand. (NT) -- congrats,
not guearanteeing these are right but this is off top of my head...GS 0-2 Sara conner UGS 0-6 Landon, 3-5 GS Cassandra Shaw, 0-6 Mini Kamryn S, Overall Personality Mikayla S, Jiovani-division, Mia OA MB, Benji Grand Talent, Kyleigh-talent Addie-6yr div, Frankie-div (NT) -- all I can remember,
Some more titles: UGS 7 & up - Alexis M., Kate S. 7 & up Grand Talent, Alyssa W. 0-2 Div. Queen, Kileigh K. 0-5 Overall Congenialty, Kenzie W & Kailey W won some kind of Overall, I think. Faith S. won Overall Glitz, (NT) -- Not sure if these are right but this is what I remember, crowning was VERY confusing.,
Mini supreme- Asia M; 7-9 Maddie H; 10-12 Jordan H; 10 and up Grand Kate S. Star Ultimate Hannah; Glitz winners 10-12 Kate & Asia TIE; Alexis M 7-9; Cassandra S 5 yr; (NT) -- all I can remember,
Hi! Yes, Mia won O/A Most Beautiful and Division Photogenic....she had SO much fun! We can't wait until the next one! (NT) -- Jennifer & Mia Cantu, Sun
This pgt was a ridiculous farce, every child won a crown, there was no competition, It basically could have been drawn out of a hat,,,, It was $200+ spent for practice time on stage, and to purchase a crown, banner and toys. Honestly it was ridiculous. And yes I know its for the children but it is still a competition, Several of these children work to hard preparing to compete only to have all the titles divided..It was so obvious what should have went where I thought there was going to be a MOM mutiny... (NT) -- An Observer, And no I din't have a child in it, I was watching for several friends.,
This was advertsed as a total natural pageant no pageant cloths and no modeling, the score was on personality and stage projection. and yes I agree if you did not want to do this pageant maybe you should have stayed home. (NT) -- Don't bash children, you are bashing the winners by your post.,
Most rediculous pageant I have ever witnessed. Number one....They did not even give out divisional age group gifts. The glitzy girls busted....It was like minus points IF you knew how to model...UNLESS you knew Lucy. (NT) -- pp, Also an observer, it stated in the paper work NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY, that means to modeling score in case you couldn't figure that out., if you did not want to do this pageant you should not have pd your money to do it. (NT) -- but it's wrong to take away from these girls win by posting such a post, all the contestants looks great, Congratulations to all the winners. And oh yes when you give out more awards then you have kids every child gets a crown.,
I agree. On top of that get this. Benji did an awesome dance rountine with a PARTNER. A duo at a one on one competition? Never seen that before. They introduced his partner not as a contestant but as his partner but, when he won talent so did his partner. She received a 10" crown just like the Overall Grand Supreme and was not even a contestant. How does that work? Pay $300 + not $200+ and have someone win a 10" crown with no fees paid. When did partner competition become part of the one on one competition. Or is this another of LUCY"S friends. WRONG! (NT)
Did you ask the director or this child if they pd if not what proof do you have that she did not do just talent only with Benji, I know for fact this pageant allows contestants to do talent only if they chose (NT) -- It would make no sense for the director to give away a 10" crown to a child who did not pay a dime. confirm this before assuming,

Benji and his partner split the prizes that were to be given to a single winner. Benji gave HIS crown to Emily and his banner. They split the cash down the middle. The parents split the talent entry fee. They entered as a single talent. Hope this clears things up. (Yes it was a Girls crown but it was the Grand talent crown). Thanks for asking. (NT) -- Benji's mOm, 19:34:23 04/09/06 Sun
that was very sweet of Benj, and yes they did an awesome job/ (NT) -- Congrats Benj! Great Job,
This pageant was not about the kids. Has anyone ever seen a pageant where you pay for Most Beautiful, Best Hair, etc and they do not give gifts to each age division. (NT) -- dd,
Did anyone get their scoresheets? (NT) -- curious?,
Yes, they did give them out about 15 minutes after crowning. (NT) -- hth,
Not knocking Benji his talent was great but I agree, There was no competition, And to the pereson who wrote about modeling not being part of the scoring ...who cares for overall stage presence and Poise yes It plays a big factor going towards those scores, You present yourself better and look better for overall appearance if you know what to do, so don't knock those kids that take the time out to learn to present themselves on stage.... Duh (NT) -- me,
I'm sorry, but please correct me if I'm wrong...are you saying there was no "competition" as in children there? Or do you mean there was no actual competition...whereas they basically just chose who got what and there was no real competition to try and earn it?? (NT) -- just trying to understand:),
The winners were way off in the 3-8 group IMO. Way off. (NT) -- Observer,
I was there too. Unbelievable. Lucy must have made a bundle. She did not even give side awards in age groups. Natural or not the gifts were nothing. Even the grands just received the contestant gifts. The overalls were getting $2.00. The director spent probably $300 on blankets and chairs. I have never seen a Pageant costing so much give so little. BAD BUSINESS! (NT) -- I was there,
Lucy is always about the kids, she has helt numerous pageants where she lost her shirt she gives what she says she will, if not enough contestants she does have to prorate, but I don't think that was the case today. (NT) -- I bet if you took this up with the director she would be more than happy to give your child a gift for best hair and best smile, ect. I did not think we paid for these.only the overalls and she did award them.,
I didn't have to ask the director about Benji's partner. She was introduced as Benji's Partner in Talent. You don't do that at one on one competition. The director didn't even know the little girls name and had to be tole with the introduction. Not taking away from Benji or his Mom. It was an awesome routine. BUT THIS IS ONE ON ONE COMPETITION! (NT) -- dd,
Lots of upset parents at this one today. I have never seen that many mad before & I have never seen so many crying kids either. So sad to see :( (NT) --
so the kids were crying because they did not get the crowns they wanted. please I was also there and I saw no crying and upset kids after crowning (NT) -- If you do not like this system stay home , no one says you have to come, but again you are taking away from the kids who won the titles today.,
Not sure WHY they were crying, but i saw it too! I am not the OP of the crying kids post either. (NT) -- .,
this was an all day pageant, and mostly small children did you ever think that they were just tired. (NT) -- small children have a rough time with an all day pageant and then crowning afterwards.,
I agree with the one that was talking about modeling. Everyone knew that modeling was not a score. What we obviously did not know is that if you could model you stood out as a quote "Glitz Pageant Kid" and it was obvious that this pageant wand to award titles to those who don't compete much. If it were about stage apperance, natural beauty and personality then Lucy did not draw out of the hat. She selectively picked her winner. (NT) -- I was there,
One thing I do agree on is I had the choice of whether or not to waste my money with this system and You are right I should have chosen not to, And for future reference anyone who ask about this system will be told not to do it, It is not a competition, Save your money buy your child a crown , banner and toy. As has been said It was not a competition, everyone and yes this means YOU knows who should have won what... It was only Way Too Obvious... Now lets be honest.... But congrats to all The children they all did a great job just by going on stage, You all did a super job. (NT) -- me, 19:20:37 04/09/06 Sun
OMG LOL!! I like your post!! I agree with you....EVERYONE won something...I just thought tmost were backwards lol! We won't be doing another Stars pageant either... (NT) -- ...., 19:22:54 04/09/06 Sun
This is another example as to why you don't use "mommy" judges or even relatives. (NT) -- observer, 19:22:25 04/09/06 Sun
there was only one mommy judge there the other two were not, and we have done numerous pageants with Rita Nelson judging and she has always been very fair in her judging and not bias. (NT) -- again sound to me like sour grapes, sorry your child did not get the title you think she deserved today., 19:27:25 04/09/06 Sun
I was there but my dd didn't compete so no sour grapes here. One judge was a "mommy" judge, one was a teenager from the Miss Teen system and the other one was Lucy's oldest daughter. (NT) -- FYI, 19:31:13 04/09/06 Sun
Excuse me..Lucy obviously picked her winners. I also agree about the divisional awards. I have never seen a pageant where age group optionals were not recognized..or could she not afford more $1 store shampoo? (NT) -- Who give adult shampoo to 0-6 children anyway? Come on people. What a joke., 19:24:05 04/09/06 Sun
Here's some of the answers I got (as i was confused also)...Titles in order were Star Ult. Grand, Ult. Grands, Grands, Mini Grands, Div. Supremes, Overalls, and Special Titles. It was difficualt to see what the judges were looking for by the winners, and yes, winners, all were so sweet today. I'd rather not comment on my opinions, but thought Id post this for a little more understanding of the title order. (NT) -- thought it was nice that all got a crown, banner and blanket anyway., 19:25:06 04/09/06 Sun
If that was the order, then it was REALLY backwards lol! I thought OVERALLS are just that. They're pulled...how can they be below a Queen? The more I think about this, the more upset I am becoming...argh! (NT) -- k, 19:29:55 04/09/06 Sun
YEP! That was the order, some were told as they registered and didn't pay for overalls because of that. (NT) -- Getting more angry won't help, LOL, just chalk it up to experience., 19:43:06 04/09/06 Sun
I did not understand why some of the lower titles crowns were much nicer that the upper titles, I think the overalls all but 2 were the lowest titles, but crowns for some were nicer than the grand supreme crowns. (NT) -- The order she went in she did flip flop back and forth from smaller crowns to larger crowns this was confusing., 19:44:57 04/09/06 Sun
How many overalls were there? (NT) -- ?, 19:46:24 04/09/06 Sun
On the paperwork or made up today? (NT) -- hth, 19:51:04 04/09/06 Sun
they were all on the paperwork there were no made up titles. (NT) -- why are you trying to start trouble?, 19:54:19 04/09/06 Sun
Overall Congeniality? I don't see that one anywhere. (NT) -- ., 19:56:36 04/09/06 Sun
This same thing happened at nationals last year in her glitz pageant!! My daughter got a congeniality award there were 3 given away then, we didn't even pay to enter that, nor was it on the paperwork. At least this won gave away division winners, national didn't, and her excuse was that everyone got a crown and that was considered an overall title and she didn't think that division needed to be won!!! Glad I learned my lesson the hard way!! (NT) -- Never again!!!, 20:26:38 04/09/06 Sun
What I meant was this was not a contest, the winnes were all just given a title... Pure Silliness, Should not be promoted as a Beauty Contest, More like a " pay and we'll take your money will make sure all kids get a Title and A prize" (NT) -- TTT, 19:26:08 04/09/06 Sun
so you are saying every system that advertises more titles and give out more titles then she has contestants. this is not a competition. (NT) -- Excuse me, I have been to numerous pageants where every child got a title and crown, so you are saying these are not competitions???so should directors have less titles, 19:31:21 04/09/06 Sun
I also have a suggestion DOn't take my money If you are wanting to give awards to kids that "don't compete much"... My child works hard for what she does,,And My suggestion to that poster is why would you want something given to your child and not earned... It is a Contest, Remember for anyone wanting to compete, And I would not want my child to be given anything Just because she doesn't compete much... (NT) -- ttt, 19:30:57 04/09/06 Sun
This was not a glitz pageant, although she had an optional glitz beauty division which was separate from everything else. (NT) -- Yes there were alot of none glitz children at this pageant just because everyone was on the same level here doesnot mean the winners were way off. In an natural pageant all kids are on the same level. You knew this coming in, 19:34:57 04/09/06 Sun
What about the little girl who kept refusing to go on stage pulling a GRAND title? (NT) -- Explain that one., 19:33:13 04/09/06 Sun
I have to say that I have never before seen such poor judging. I watched every child through out the day, my dd won a great title, but, as a mother I do have to say that she did not earn the title. As a parent is is almost embarrasing. I don't want anyone to bash my dd but the judging was so off. I personally scored the children, as a Grandparent even I have to admit things did not seem right. I saw girls up there absolutely beautiful, smiling happy little ones and I gave each contestant my own scores. I would not have choosen my OWN Grandaughter to receive the award she did. I do agree with the one that stated that the prizes were not age appropropiate and were much less than one would expect when paying the pageant fees. (NT) -- In fact the only winner that I chose that was right was the little boy. I think his name was Landin. He was precious and I did score him to win what he won. Otherwise either I or the system was way off., 19:34:03 04/09/06 Sun
I think your last sentence said it best, the little girl who did not want to go on stage was not judged until she actuallly got on stage and she final did get up there and did well. Maybe not well enough for a grand title but that was the judges decisions live with it. (NT) -- I guess the pageant kids did not do well at this natural pageant.? Then maybe you should stay with glitz., 19:40:17 04/09/06 Sun
This was the worst pageant I have ever seen. All the girls were great. However, I spoke to several of the parents and those who know Lucy won high titles. I have never been in a pageant that was so obviously fixed. (NT) -- and yes. the prizes, crowns, gifts were nothing compared to the money to enter, 19:41:39 04/09/06 Sun
you are being so childish, there were about 25 children at the pagent and lucy knew about 20 out of the 25 there weren't 20 top titles (NT) -- again this is sour grapes, sorry your child did not win the title you thought they should have won today., Just don't go back don't bash., 19:59:35 04/09/06 Sun
This exact same mess was up after her Nationals in Dec, which was horrible. Lucy is sweet, but we will not do her pageants, because they are just simply never fair (NT) -- I am sure all the girls were beautiful, but she needs to give everyone a fair shot at winning, 19:45:08 04/09/06 Sun
You are right but better yet how about stay whee there is a contest... You MOMS know yes you know what should have went where, Glitz or no glitz, Quit lying to yourselves and trying to make yourselves fell better, There was NO JUDGING the titles Were randomly given out... YOU know what your own eyes showed you on that stage... MY DD took that stage and did what should have been done, And yes she is the same age as yours... Think about it! (NT) -- ttt, 19:46:43 04/09/06 Sun
Since when does Overall Personality get the best crown? That crown was the prettiest one there. (NT) -- Way to go Mikaela!!!!!, 19:53:22 04/09/06 Sun
It was double the amount of other overall fees to enter the personality overall, thus the nice crown. Lots entered that particualr event. (NT) -- hth, 19:58:54 04/09/06 Sun
It was $20 to enter O/A Photogenic too (same as personality)....I think Savannah Jennings pulled that one. Was her crown as big? I can't recall?? (NT) -- k, 20:01:12 04/09/06 Sun
No Savannahs crown was NOT big at all. But the overall crowns were the same size as the Mini supremes figure that one out (NT) -- dd, 20:18:58 04/09/06 Sun
See, it would make sense for them to be the same size as the Mini's IF they were a higher title than division....I have NEVER seen a pageant place O/A'll's below division...EVER. (NT) -- ;, 20:21:38 04/09/06 Sun
she told everyone at registeration that was the overall personality crown, oh I do believe it was even taped to the back of the crown at registation for everyone to see. (NT) -- why can't she award the bigger crowns to this title if she so chooses, she told everyone up front when you pd for it., 20:05:23 04/09/06 Sun
I just ASKED....she never told us anything at registration..just took the entry form and the $$, that was it. I simply responded to the person that said it was double the $$ to enter personality, when in fact it was the same for photogenic that's all. (NT) -- :), 20:08:03 04/09/06 Sun
Why is this one title being questioned? Is this the one that was OFF? (NT) -- curious, 20:13:04 04/09/06 Sun
We did not know that if you knew how to model you were immediately pegged as a pageant kid. what about the naturally beautiful Pageant kids. Today several of the "pageant girls" showed wonderful stage presence, beauty and poise. There were about five pageant girls there that compete alot. They are all naturally beatiful, followed the guideline with no makeup, no fake hair, etc., butttttt their modeling ability obviously gave them away. (NT) -- If I were Kate,Asia, Kaylie,Geo or Savannah's parents I would not be happy tonight. All you girls did awesome as usual., 19:55:35 04/09/06 Sun
then how did Alexis M. win ultimate grand, she is very much a pageant kid. and she did a great job. as everyone else did. (NT) -- congrats Alexis,, 20:12:30 04/09/06 Sun
There were two madeup titles that I know that were not on the paperwork (NT) -- hows that, 19:58:29 04/09/06 Sun
which titles were these I must have missed that. (NT) -- nt, 20:07:08 04/09/06 Sun
Miss Congeniality 0-5 and 6 & up (NT) -- hth, 20:10:44 04/09/06 Sun
your right these were not on the paper work were they door entries? (NT) -- if so you did not have to entry it., 20:15:34 04/09/06 Sun
Not door entries either! (NT) -- never given the option to enter., 20:28:55 04/09/06 Sun
I agree with the post referencing Benji's talent and his parner. THAT WAS WRONG. I asked about his parnter after the competition and I was just told she was just doing a routine with him and not competing. I could not believe the crown a non-paying contestant won. I also cannot believe that Lucy would let a talent partner in on a one on one competition. (NT) -- Lucy I will never do one of your pageants again and will spread the news dont offer glitz, 20:05:59 04/09/06 Sun
she did not win the crown Benji did., did you not see where Benji gave her the crown. (NT) -- I don't agree with Lucy allowing this as it should have been a one on one competition. I have never heard of this before either. Guess next time ask and make sure it is a one on one talent competition, 20:10:27 04/09/06 Sun
As for Savannah J's Overall Photogenic Crown I do recall, And NO it was not as big.... Hmmm what answer do we have now??? (NT) -- ttt, 20:07:11 04/09/06 Sun
None of the crowns that I could tell were "equal", so no answers to that either (NT) -- even Div. crowns were not the same, 20:16:50 04/09/06 Sun
how petty if you do not like the crown your child got I suggest you call the director and take it up with her (NT) -- what do you want custom designed 10-15 " crowns ., 20:23:28 04/09/06 Sun
This was a state pageant, not a Nationals or mini nationals, all the crowns were nice crowns very well made not flimze little cheap crowns. (NT) -- gee moms get a grip, 20:26:01 04/09/06 Sun
That's what you think. For the price you paid you should have gotten better crowns. (NT) -- someone who knows, 20:34:08 04/09/06 Sun
This was a natural pageant. You could tell who knew how to model and who did not. I noticed that the young ladies that could model did not win the higher titles. My child did. I did not think this was right. Not because my child isn't beautiful but because she did not smile much. There were three girls in her age group that were as beautiful as she but smiled and really did a better job. I only do natural pageants with my daughter but felt wronged by her winning because I did not believe she deserved it. I hate that this discussion is happening but I wanted to let all the Moms of the other girls know that some of the winners parents knew that we should not have won and think your girls are great. (NT) -- Natural Pageant Mom, 20:11:27 04/09/06 Sun
It sickens me to see how parents react. Get a grip. If you don't like it, don't compete. Simple as that. Paperwork says natural no experience. Some who may have done glitzy that does not mean they will win. This is NATURAL! It doesn't mean a touched up photo will win. It means NATURAL!!! Bad sportsmanship is EXACTLY what most of you are displaying. Set a better example for your children. Score sheets were given out?? Why not read & askin private. Don't bash these children & this director who does her best at trying to make things right. I really didn't see any child there upset. Hmmmm!!! I was happy with what my child received. But not because of the title or crown but because of the smile on her face. That's what makes me happy. That precious smile & the running into my arms saying look mommy what I have. I WILL NEVER TAKE THAT SMILE AWAY FROM HER just because it wasn't what someone else expected she should have won. (NT) -- I will never bash a child for anything. Friendships & happiness are much more important. Parents posting these childish comments SHOULD NOT DO PAGEANTS! Find another hobby! It will do everyone you hurt a world of good to get out.....Grateful Mom for My childs win!!! Thank you Miss Lucy!!!, 20:13:03 04/09/06 Sun
Thank you, very well said. I agree if you can't take the heat and not bash don't do pageants. (NT) -- Congrats to all the winners, and thank you Lucy for a very nice pageant., 20:20:21 04/09/06 Sun
You know I am TRULY happy with my DD's title today! If I could have picked one, it would have been this one...HOWEVER I do think something was fishy....I paid the $200, so I feel I have the right to voice my opinion. Sure, GRANDS would have been NICE.....however I feel my daughter won what she deserved. I did however see others get jipped, a nd can completely understand they're right to be upset. (NT) -- k, 20:25:08 04/09/06 Sun
Reply to Grateful Mom: You must have a child that won big. Good friends with Lucy? This conversation is about what is fair. Our children only see the wins, we are most certainly positive to them, but we are the ones paying the fees to joke pageants like this. Yes we will neve do another of Lucy's pageants, but we will also make sure that as many that can read this will not either. It was a JOKE! (NT) -- Lucy made money, that is her business, but don't even go there about her being about the kids because this pageant was FIXED. Done many pageant before and will continus. Never in 4 years of Pageantry have I ever seen such a poor excuse for a State pageant., 20:25:15 04/09/06 Sun
I know Lucy very well, and my daughter did her pageant for about 10 yrs. It took my daughter 9 yrs. to win a grand supreme title at her pageants, if she was not fair, and hand picked her winners my daughter would have won grand supreme a whole lot sooner and more often. (NT) -- I know Lucy is fair and goes strickly by the judges scores, yes maybe your choice of judges could sometime be better but don't incenuate she is not a fair director., 20:32:50 04/09/06 Sun
So sorry to bust your bubble but no, she did not win big. No, we are not buddy-buddy with the director. I have her scores and I take the comments as useful and something we can use for the next time. Fair, yes I believe that. That is my opinion. My child was happy and if you think that pageants are for the adults your are wrong. Pageants are for the kids, not the parents. They are the ones who do the work. No wonder pageant moms hate each other. This is crazy. Don't spend your hard earned money if you don't feel "honored" to have a Grand Title. Take it elsewhere because you and those who bash are not the parents we want our children around. I for one DO NOT. I want my child to still have that smile on her face no matter what she wins or doesn't win. I teach good sportsmanship, morals and no matter what happens she did a great job and to be happy with herself. I will NEVER bash (NT) -- & if I WILL NEVER say a director is not fair. I don't judge people no matter who they are, what people say about them or what happened in the past. I do my best to look for the good in everyone. I can't find good in some of these posts. That is SAD!!.....Thank you again for making my daughter happy., 22:26:34 04/09/06 Sun
This pageant was absolutely ridiculous. The winners were WAY OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the girls did great, but I know a lot of moms that are going home excited about their GRAND or MINI titles that know their child did not deserve, or should I not say it like that. They know another child is more deserving. Not mentioning any names, You know who you are...... (NT) -- DD, 20:25:25 04/09/06 Sun
again this is total nonsense, get over it, so your child did not win today, maybe you should find another hobby, (NT) -- sore grapes have no room in pageants., 20:36:25 04/09/06 Sun
Lucy get into another business. Too many strikes. (NT) -- One who knows it all, 20:31:30 04/09/06 Sun
Benji your talent was awesome. Do you need another partner. Love to win a pageant without paying fees. (NT) -- Got that Lucy, 20:34:04 04/09/06 Sun
I do have to agree on that one. Cute little girl but why do we have to pay? A nice token Lucy but we would all love to compete for free. (NT) -- Not a happy parent, 20:35:54 04/09/06 Sun
Hey mad moms, let ME point out something please. What I am reading sounds like you think only the glitz kids know "how to model". Let me explain something. It's not that the natural kids don't know how, it's that they are modeling the "natural way". There are different styles of pageant modeling. Natural modeling should be just that- NATURAL!! Being overly poised with the cutsy head tilts, the raised eyebrows, the shoulder to chin move, etc. etc.- those are all glitz skills, they are not NATURAL. Our kids don't walk and move like that in their natural gait. I understand modeling was not supposed to be scored, but the paperwork said they were looking for "all natural girl and boy" and that is who the judges were told to pick. So yes, if your child was on stage doing "glitz" modeling, she would have scored lower. I like natural AND glitz, but this was a NATURAL pageant. (NT) -- pm, 20:36:31 04/09/06 Sun
So are saying all the girls/boys who won Grand and Mini did not deserve it?? (NT) -- ?, 20:37:18 04/09/06 Sun
Yes, please answer, are you saying NONE of the grands deserved their titles? (NT) -- inquiring mom, 21:13:20 04/09/06 Sun
All I'm saying the little boy Deserved his title. (NT) -- pm, 21:39:36 04/09/06 Sun
AND I want to point out something else. To those griping about Benji having a partner- what about all those BABIES whose moms go on stage with them for their so-called talents to try to coax them to "perform" and some even with matching costumes and taking part in the "act". Why aren't any of you complaining about that??? Oh yeah, because they didn't win a big crown. At least Benji's routine was a real talent. Congrats to him and his pretty partner. (NT) -- pm, 20:40:38 04/09/06 Sun
The paperwork states that Modeling is YOUR choice. There was NO MODELING score. It was Poise/PERSONALITY; stage presence; and overall appearance. The debate is that for those who were there and watched the pageant, the Winners were not consistently any type of "standard". There were kids who DID model who won and then there were those who barely took the stage and did not smile much who took higher titles than kids who had more STAGE Presence. For 3 judges to pick SO MANY different types from all the different age groups made it hard to know what they were looking for or were counting off for. (NT) -- It was suppose to be about FACIAL BEAUTY; STAGE PRESENCE; and OVERALL APPEARANCE., 20:52:44 04/09/06 Sun
Let me explain something. Modeling was not to be scored period. That means if our kids modeled and your kids wondered around the stage they should have both been judged equally for their NATURAL beauty. No where in the paperwork did it say that if you could model you were out. Come on lady....you saw the pageant..... (NT) -- It Lucy does not want Glitz girls then she is going about this correctly., 20:43:12 04/09/06 Sun
Those babies have to have Mom on stage number one. Number two...It was a talent and costume contest..... (NT) -- Those with babies did cute original costume ideas, they can't do talent, their babies, HELLO!, 20:46:28 04/09/06 Sun
Does anyone know the last name of the 0-5 overall congeniality winner? -- Just Curious, 20:47:37 04/09/06 Sun
Kyle (NT) -- hth, 20:49:48 04/09/06 Sun
Thank you very much to you!!! Am I suppose to leave my baby ALONE on the stage??? They are BABIES!!!! (NT) -- pm, 20:50:45 04/09/06 Sun
ok now you are getting really low attacking the babies., these are babies., (NT) -- whats wrong is when moms stand nehind the judges and do the childs whole pro am routine for them I've seen this in the 4-6 and up group, 20:54:03 04/09/06 Sun
I agree. You cannot say that those Mom's with those little babies did not do a great job with their costumes. Nobody is saying that Benji did not do an awesome performance. However, has anyone ever seen a pageant contestant have a PARTNER? Has anyone ever seen a non paying PARTNER win the crown the same size and the UNTIMATE GRAND? (NT) -- Benji, Baby Kenzie and Baby Sara Elizabeth all had great ideas/talent/costumes. Know what your talking about or get off the board., 20:51:24 04/09/06 Sun
Was not there but I would like to know what great costumes they had?? (NT) -- Just wondering since they were really great! Thanks, 20:55:21 04/09/06 Sun
Kenzie was "Tweety Bird" and set inside a feather decorated cage and she also was a chef cooking spaghetti for "On top of Spaghetti. Sara did 5 monkeys and Splish splash.... (NT) -- really cute ideas, 21:00:16 04/09/06 Sun
Alright! Alright! Let start with Benji. I saw the little girl’s parents split the entry with Benji’s mom. I also saw Benji and the girl talking about if they win, He is going to give her the crown and he was going to take the banner and split everything else. Why shouldn’t Benji win a crown he paid for and give to whoever he wants??? The big crown was for The Talent winner. As for the winners I understand what people are talking about. It did say Natural! I think some of the kids really looked glitz. As for Landon and the Alexia they were right on the money! The little boy did a really good job. (NT) -- I thought is was a all right pageant. Some of the wiiners were off., 21:00:53 04/09/06 Sun
What glitz kids didn't win that did good today that is making eveyone upset (NT) -- Just interested!, 21:03:30 04/09/06 Sun
It isn't one child that didn't win, it is the whole pageant as an experience. Everyone has an off day and several I thought were having one but the whole crowning was so confusing. The only part that was great was when Miss Teen Nacogdoches sang, boy does she have a voice. (NT) -- Good luck to Rachel in Miss Teen Texas, 21:08:11 04/09/06 Sun
there were no hair peices or make up allowed in the natural pageant. (NT) -- nt, 21:15:55 04/09/06 Sun
BOY i am confused now, Are you saying thee where children there with NO makeup, No hairpieces, In a Sunday Best dress with no stones and they still looked glitz, That doesnt make sense . (NT) -- ttt, 21:08:16 04/09/06 Sun
You can still look glitz with out all of that..Modeling, Dress, and poise. Can't explain bot getting a crown, but they both did a great job! (NT) -- Congrats to everyone that won!, 21:18:05 04/09/06 Sun
Well can we split the money now and have two contests win. Benji got is crown, his partner got her corwn...HELLO...still one contestant. (NT) -- You figure it out, 21:09:57 04/09/06 Sun
The glitz pageant part was a $65 JOKE. The prizes for the divisional winners was $1 hair product for adults. It was obcious if the child could model they were glitz kids and obvious also that scores reflected this (NT) -- If modeling does not count why cant our girls get on stage and still do there practiced modeling following all the non-glitz attire and guidelines., 21:14:33 04/09/06 Sun
Wow...I have been reading the board. Kenzie Wiatrek won Overall Miss Congeniatly and Kaylie Wiatrek Won Overall BEST HAIR, both of these crowned titles were not in the paperwork.....Does that tell me that both of my dd's won the lowest titles possible in this pageant? (NT) -- Mammy, 21:18:51 04/09/06 Sun
Which age groups do you think were the most off? Throw modeling completly out as is stated in paperwork and tell who you would have picked for each group... (NT) -- Let's see how the "Parent/audience" vote compares to the "Judges", 21:20:16 04/09/06 Sun
you are just trying to start trouble. let the winners enjoy their wins. (NT) -- this is not fair for the children that won., 21:23:54 04/09/06 Sun
Here is a funny one, @ years ago we went to state for this system and won a nice set of paper plates, YES an 8 pic of paper birthday plates,, We learned our lesson that year,,, (NT) -- Should not be advertised as a State pgt, more like a fun little tiny small practice pageant,, 21:21:33 04/09/06 Sun
It also looks like having a creative idea for costume for a baby is questionable as Kenzie did Tweetie Bird and On Top of spegettie with her Mom of course because she is only 14 months old. (NT) -- Mammy, 21:23:05 04/09/06 Sun
I would love to give my predictions however, I will never put down another child. (NT) -- It was Lucy who made the mistakes, if we have to bash, bash Stars Over USA, 21:26:25 04/09/06 Sun
I totally agree, DON'T bash the children who won just bash the system for not being fair. (NT) -- Congratulations to all the winners!!, 21:32:37 04/09/06 Sun
Mammy wants to congratulate Little Mister Landon and Miss Sarah Elizabeth (NT) -- You are both my Doll Babies, 21:28:37 04/09/06 Sun
Thank you so very much Mammy, you are THE BEST Mammy!! Congratulations to Kenzie and Kaylie also, they did an awesome job today!! And Landon, you are just "Our Little Man"!!! (NT) -- Sarah-Elizabeth Conner and Susan, 21:31:46 04/09/06 Sun
Thanks Susan...But according to the judging I believe they won the lowest title possible. Actually it looks like the pageant director made up the titles to crown them (NT) -- Mammy, 21:36:13 04/09/06 Sun
If they are making up titles to give away, Why did the little boy win two titles? (NT) -- Wondering!, 21:41:45 04/09/06 Sun
Hey I saw both Kenzie and Kaylee on stage today. Most rediculous titles. Mammy and Mom do NOT get you down. Both of those girls are georgous. Kaylie was awesome as usual and the baby smiled and even laughed on stage. Do not let this get you down. The judging was WRONG! Your two girls are those that I have been talking about when I talk about the Glitz girls not winning. I can imagine how you both are feeling but the entire judging process was rediculous. I hope you see that and don't get discouraged. You both are great people and the girls are BEAUTIFUL! (NT) -- A Pageant Friend who love to see K & K on stage!, 21:42:20 04/09/06 Sun
I agree these are two beautiful little girls, they should have won a highter title, however that baby group was really a tuff group and hard to call. (NT) -- I loved watching them., 21:47:44 04/09/06 Sun
I;ve caught bits and pieces throughout this enormus post does anyone have a complete list the the winners. (NT) -- if so please post., 21:50:25 04/09/06 Sun
Everyone is so confused they can't remember all the names and Ms. Lucy must not be home yet. (NT) -- hth, 21:55:33 04/09/06 Sun
Miss Lucy I hope you read all this when you get home (NT) -- I cannot believe what I am reading. Prizes. Titles. Duo Talent. What are you thinking. And what about these "FRIENDS" whose kids got titles. Is that how you get kids to Nationals?, 22:05:20 04/09/06 Sun
I don't agree on the duo talent I too thought the talent should be and was always one on one , bad call on the directors part, but the friends winning , who were the friends that won? I don't understand this at all (NT) -- what do you mean friends winning, 22:16:18 04/09/06 Sun
Who is Hannah...the top winner? (NT) -- ????, 22:06:42 04/09/06 Sun
this is the first time I have seen her, but she is a very lovely girl , (NT) -- I don't think she is a glitz pageant child but read the paper work folks it was a natural pageant., 22:19:13 04/09/06 Sun
IVE SEEN THIS LITTLE GIRL AT ANOTHER PAGEANT I BELIEVE IF IT IS WHO I THINK IT IS SHE IS ONE OF KENDALLS STUDENTS (NT) -- SHE DOESNT DO OUR GLITZ PAGEANTS BUT SHE DOES SO NATURAL PAGEANTS, 22:21:48 04/09/06 Sun
Doesn't it say above that Benji won the crown and gave it to his partner? That means he got one but gave it to the girl. That means there was only 1 crown. What difference does it make? If he was the one being judged. This is the most rediculous post I've seen in a while. Did the paperwork say there would be gifts for division awards? If not, then stop griping. SINCE WHEN IS IT A BAD THING FOR A DIRECTOR TO ADD TITLES????? Oh My God! Listen to yourselves. What a bunch of crybabies!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (NT) -- GET A REAL LIFE, 22:32:56 04/09/06 Sun
I think Lucy has alot of explaining to do. Expecially allowing Benji to have a partner in Talent. That should never be allowed in one on one competition. And the fact that both Benji and his partner were crowned. What are you thinking Lucy?????Try that at Nationals HAHA...... (NT) -- Your Glitz portion was a JOKE and you should give all those who competed their money back, 22:14:20 04/09/06 Sun
there were only about 8 that entered glitz it was a separate event from the natural pageant, she named age division glitz and then an over all glitz. (NT) -- no one was required to enter this and the smart moms didn't, 22:23:10 04/09/06 Sun
I think that everyone who competed in the talent should get a refund to. You cannot compete with a partner in a pageant. Every contestant gets an individual score. This is the biggest VIOLATION of pageantry I have ever heard of. If your (as I did) paid for Talent of Costume we need to DEMAND a refund. Otherwise we were robbed. (NT) -- I will be the first to email her!, 22:25:12 04/09/06 Sun
That is CRAP!!! No refund! I saw a lot of parents dress up with there kids in costume. They hade “partners” . Benji Deserved his win! It showed off his ball room dancing!!!!!!! Also I ask Lucy what did the winner for glitz wear get, she told me. We didn’t enter. Did you ask? If not to bad! Always ask the director the awards and you wouldn’t have to come on the board and be mad!! (NT) -- Pageant mom at Stars to day!!, 22:32:26 04/09/06 Sun
I think everyone has made their point, this was a mistake in the directors part and I don't think she will ever do that again. But what is done is done, (NT) -- get over it people. I saw something like this before at Lucy's pageant yrs ago a little girl did this awesome magic act and she ask for a volunteer from the audiance for one of the tricks no one complained about that., 22:37:29 04/09/06 Sun
Excuse me the smart Moms didn't enter their children in Glitz. Does that mean those who did were not aware of the $$$ robbery. Again if you entered Glitz or Talent I would DEMAND your money back. Otherwise maybe we should continue and get email info and combine together to get refunds. Lucy too many mistakes were made today and too many parents are angry. All the children who entered talent and glitz competition were wronged. (NT) -- Anyone inteterested in persuing post!, 22:30:15 04/09/06 Sun

Shelly oh Shelly I must confess,
with the wrong woman,
you chose to mess.
Do tell me what was on your mind
the day that you tried
to grow a spine.
On second thought,
it does not matter
you WILL learn to control your chatter.
you opened up Pandora's box
but me my dear, you can't out fox.
Just like lightening and thunder during the rain
there will be no pleasure, only pain.
I have to laugh in spite of myself
when I'm done with YOU, they'll be NOTHING left!
Now be a woman and confess
Did it feel good getting it off your chest?
When you reminisce don't forget to smile,
cause I go the distance, not just a mile!
Get the last laugh? I ALWAYS do
now image what I'm going to do to You!
Keep rolling your eyes and stomping your feet
because my DAUGHTER, yours will NEVER defeat
Conceited I am, as you can see
But wouldn't you be if you were me?
Not only the FUTURE but also your PAST
between our daughters yours will ALWAYS
Come in LAST!!!!
Now pucker up and kiss my anus,
because I'm about to make YOU famous!
I can see how it might make you frown,
I don't play nice and my daughter STILL gets the crown!
Again roll your eyes and stomp your feet
cause my daughter can beat yours in her sleep!

This is REALLY interesting and a nice article found it on another board, it's about Susan and Thumper! -- read!!, 08:20:27 06/04/06 Sun
ATLANTA (Ga.)
Abstract: Examines the merits of child beauty pageants. Impact of JonBenet Ramsey's murder; Effect of pageants on development of Thumper Gosney's personality; Gosney's friendship with Ramsey; Psychological impact of beauty contests on kids; Details of Universal/Southern Charm National Pageant in Atlanta, Georgia
PRETTY BABIES
For years, child beauty pageants quietly flourished. But since the brutal murder of JonBenet Ramsey, enrollment has plunged and pageant families are facing fierce public hostility. Do they deserve it?
There's something different about Thumper Gosney. Playing in the pool at the Atlanta Airport Marriott, the 8-year-old moves with a dancer's grace, her waist-length hair spreading like seaweed around her She's a magnet for younger kids, two little girls wearing water wings float around her, and the three form a spontaneous family. 4, Thumper (real name: Leslie) displays confidence and independence, qualities her mother is eager for her to cultivate. Susan Gosney and her husband, Gary, are older parents- Thumper's three sisters are already in their 20s -and they want their youngest to flourish on her own.
In fact, Thumper used to be quite shy, according to her mother But that was before the pageants. At age 5, Thumper visited a county fair near the Gosneys' hometown of Temple, TX, where a beauty competition is held each year. Captivated by pictures of the sparkling crowns and omate dresses worn by the previous year's winners, Thumper begged her mother to let her enter. Susan agreed. "I bought her a beautiful dress," Susan recalls "But I did everything wrong. I put her hair up in a bun, real tight, to show off the dress. I wet it, real slick She looked like a peeled grape in that big dress."
Thumper went on to lose her first five pageants. "I didn't care," she says now. "They were fun. I got to make new friends." Within a couple of years, she had won a large number of state titles and had moved on to national competitions.
Thumper, Susan, and Susan's mother, Jerry, are in Atlanta for the Universal/Southern Charm National Pageant. ( Gary, a veterinarian, would be here, too, if it didn't mean shutting down his animal clinic for the weekend and missing the Sunday school class he's taught for 27 years.) Charm, as the pageant is known, has been around for 16 years and is one of the most competitive Contestants range in age from under a year to 20-something, and come from all over the country "Everyone knows it's hard to win," says Susan. "You're competing with the cream of the crop"
The Gosneys have arrived a day early to give Thumper a chance to relax, while Susan gets her daughter's clothes ready. Charm requires elaborate outfits for each of its categories, and families often transport trunks of gear in vans and Winnebagos. But the Gosneys live too far away to drive, so Susan carried Thumper's two fanciest pageant dresses on the plane in a huge Rubbermaid plastic box, along with her irreplaceable submissions for the picture competitions, Photogenic and Portfolio. She packed a rolling footlocker for the rest of Thumper's costumes and a black ease for makeup and the three sets of hot rollers it takes to set Thumper's long hair.
'That's all Thumper's," Susan says with pride, pointing to her daughter's tresses "Most of these girls will be wearing hair extensions. We are rising false eyelashes, though. You get the same effect with mascara, but false eyelashes are easier on the eyes than fourteen coats of mascara. You just drop them on."
Thumper has emerged from the pool and is launching into the routine she'll do for the modeling competition. She flings a towel -substituting for a cape - over her wet shoulders, spins several times, and with a whoosh drops the towel to her forearm. She catches it perfectly.
It was in this hotel, in Atlanta, that Thumper Gosney met JonBenet Ramsey, five months before the pretty blond 6-year-old was found murdered in the basement of her Boulder, CO, home on December 26, 1996. The girls were competing in the same age group at the Sunburst International Pageant, though JonBenet was something of a novice, having competed only in local Colorado contests.
Susan first noticed JonBenet in the pageant book. "When you get to a pageant, you look to see who your competition is," Susan says. "I remember saying, 'That's one beautiful child.' So many kids look like cookie-cutter cutouts. Their families hire the same hair and makeup people. But she was naturally gorgeous And she was brand-new."
JonBenet was transfixed by Thumper's talent routine, Susan remembers, a rendition of a Patsy Cline number entitled "She's Got You." Playing a scorned girlfriend, Thumper yanked various objects including love letters, records, even a pair of junior golf clubs -out of her evening gown. "JonBenet wanted to know how she got all that stuff in her dress," says Susan.
Thumper and JonBenet became friends and played together. The Gosneys found JonBenet to be sweet, quiet, and unaffected. Patsy Ramsey, her mother, though mostly friendly, at one point became standoffish. The Gosneys were intrigued by JonBenet's black-and-white costumes (most pageant dresses are in vibrant colors), and asked Patsy about her dressmaker. "She gave short answers," Susan recalls, ''as if we were trying to steal her ideas" When JonBenet died, the Gosneys were stunned. Thumper sent flowers to her little friend's funeral. And then everything began to change.
Pageants celebrating female beauty and charm have been fixtures at fairs and festivals in the United States since the nineteenth century But their rise in popularity probably dates to 1954, when the Miss America pageant was first broadcast on television. Susan Gosney remembers the first time her family saw the show. "You looked up to Miss America," she recalls. "She had poise, she was beautiful. She was the ideal woman" Little girls began dreaming of one day becoming Miss America. And some parents wanted to give them ahead start.
In 1960, a Miami broadcaster hosted the first locally televised pageant for children, Little Miss Universe. By the 1980's, child pageants had become an inextricable part of life in the South, proliferating by word of mouth, without any national advertising or publicity. Children became "names" on the circuit but remained unknown outside the pageant world.
If not for JonBenet's murder, that world might have thrived in relative anonymity. But in the media frenzy following her death, pageants were condemned, even demonized. Americans were shocked by images of little girls in bejeweled dresses imitating grown-up beauty queens And in a time of heightened concern about child abuse, pageant children were seen as having been robbed of their innocence by being taught to behave in sexually provocative ways As a result, newcomers were scared away from the contests, and enrollment plunged At the same time, pageant families suddenly found themselves hounded by reporters and insulted by strangers.
At a pageant in Dallas recently, Susan Gosney reports, a group of salesmen caught sight of Thumper on her way to the ballroom. One of the men loudly remarked, "I think it's appalling you force that poor child to wear makeup like that" His words stung.
"I'm not a pushy stage mother," Susan insists. "My daughter loves our weekends together, loves dressing up, loves doing her talent routine Pageants didn't kill JonBenet," she adds emphatically. "A terrible person did."
Faye DeMatteo, mother of Rayanna, one of last year's winners at Charm, says that her family had to change their phone number twice to avoid reporters. She refused to talk to any of them, and was outraged by comments made by Geraldo Rivera on his TV show. "He said that when he sees a six-year-old in a swimsuit, he sees sex. Well, that's his perception. When I see a six-year-old in a swimsuit, I see a six-year-old in a swimsuit."
Pageant moms believe the media look through a distorted lens. And they charge that the heaviest criticism comes from people who have never even been to child beauty pageants. After psychologists and a former Miss America appeared on television to talk about the emotional damage inflicted on pageant kids, Faye and other mothers sprang into action. "We called psychological institutes around the country," she says, "even the Mayo Clinic. There are no studies. They can't produce anything to prove adverse effects."
Over and over, pageant mothers insist that their children want to participate and are not subjected to the perfectionist pressures imposed on child actors or athletes. Indeed, their behavior in competition can be charmingly unpredictable. "When Rayanna was three," Faye recalls, "she walked downstage toward the judges, bent down, and yanked off her shoes. 'These shoes hurt,' she announced. Then she set the shoes down, finished modeling, blew a kiss -and still won the top title."
Some of the regulars say that pageants help young girls the way charm schools once did. "People misunderstand pageant kids," argues Francis Clinton, grandmother of two contestants at Charm. "They have good manners, high self-esteem, and they know how to act in public. You can go into a restaurant and see a table of pageant kids eating quietly, surrounded by rowdy, badly behaved kids all over the place" Pageants may be "politically incorrect," as Faye notes, but they are also free of such scourges as drugs, alcohol, and gangs. And besides, she adds, 'There's a lot worse things you could subject your child to than spending time with her."
After JonBenet was killed, some pageant families began worrying about the safety of their children. "If people talked to you in the elevator, you'd get paranoid," says Diana Pote, mother of Charm contestant Alexandra. That fear has receded, but not the remarks. "I had one lady say [about my daughter], 'Oh, that poor baby.' It made me furious." Incidents like these have made pageant families more cautious, though. Now mothers scrub their daughter's faces and take down their hair as soon as a contest is over. And the girls themselves have stopped telling schoolmates what they do on weekends Pageants have become a secret shared only with pageant friends
Charm registration begins Friday around noon, as a line forms outside the Marriott ballroom. Faye DeMatteo, wearing a red-and-white polka dot outfit that matches her daughter's, greets everyone and hands out Charm T -shirts.
Seated behind the registration desk is Darlene Burgess, who founded Charm with her husband, Jerry, in 1982, partly because their daughter, Becky, I loved to compete. Becky is now 27 and has a 4-year-old daughter who's also on the circuit. Darlene spends time with each applicant, answering questions and giving advice about which photographs to submit "Not this one," Darlene tells a mother. "We don't do swimsuits anymore, and she's got shadows under her eyes." A pleasant-faced woman with a lilting Arkansan accent, Darlene has the air of a country doctor 'This one's cuter," she says
In 1997, Darlene and Jerry say they lost more than $25,000 on Charm, as paid entries dropped from 200 to 68.
'We didn't get any babies at all," says Darlene. Another casualty is Charm's pageant book, which once attracted more than 100 pages of ads from local businesses In 1997 and 1998, only a handful of ads were sold. The number of entrants remains low, but the Burgesses have reduced the amount of their cash awards and figure they'll break about even.
Loyal pageant families are undeterred by the bad publicity and continue to support what they see as a wholesome family activity. Says Hugh Roberts, the doting grandfather of Charm contestant Ashlee Golden, "I've seen people act uglier at Little League baseball games than at pageants."
But Little League has got to be cheaper. Entry fees for Charm now start at $395, with additional charges for special categories like Portfolio and Talent. It's possible, with multiple submissions, to spend more than $1,000 just to enter. Then there are the pageant dresses, which range from $300 to several thousand dollars each.
Hairstyling and makeup costs for the two-and-a-half-day pageant range from $175 to $350. And to prepare for the event, many children take modeling lessons with a coach, costing up to $85 per hour. There's also the expense of makeup and hairstyling for studio photographs To help cover costs, many pageant parents work as hairdressers, makeup artists, costume designers, or modeling coaches.
Susan Gosney runs a store in Temple where she sells cribs, children's clothes, and pageant dresses; a former dance teacher, she also coaches children and designs clothes. Since Thumper began competing, she's won more than $20,000 in U.S savings bonds. But Susan doesn't want to think about what the family has spent - -and she's grateful her husband doesn't ask. It's Friday aftenoon, and the talent competition is about to begin in the brightly lit, heavily chilled ballroom. No tickets are sold at the door, and no strangers are in the house -just pageant families. Thumper glides into the ballroom wearing a yellow chiffon dress that Susan has decorated with silk flowers and clusters of pearls. Her hair, swept off her forehead, cascades into a huge flip at her lower back, like a blond waterfall. "It takes forty-five minutes just to roll her hair," Susan says.
Three judges -all women with pageant backgrounds -are seated at a long table, a few feet from the stage, their backs to the audience. "It's not just about a voice, but also about showmanship and performance," explains judge Marie Mobley, a former contestant who now works as a flight attendant.
"You can have a great voice, but sing the wrong song." And when the competition is close, she adds, "winning can come down to an uneven hem, or the wrong accessory. It can be the parent's fault."
Talent contestants are allowed approximately three minutes on stage; exceeding the time limit may cost points.
As the girls take their turns, cries of "Go girl!" ring out. Cheering is especially loud for contestants who have surmounted personal obstacles; a teenager from Florida who tap-dances on afoot recently removed from a cast; a 12-year-old who, after seven years of speech therapy, manages to fly through a tongue-twisting country and westen ditty; a 12-year-old Indian girl singing a powerful rendition of "Amazing Grace." (The audience knows that the girl was abandoned as an infant on the streets of Calcutta and adopted by a loving family from the Midwest.)
One of the girls in Thumper's age group belts out a Broadway tune; another dances the can-can. There are the usual mishaps. One girl drops a baton; another trips on her feather boa. Finally, it's Thumper's turn. Susan gives her daughter a careful kiss, so as not to muss her makeup, then runs to the center of the house to root for her. Wearing a big smile, Thumper sings "Baby Face" into a handheld mike. She is funny and charming, though her voice seems a little thin. During the song, Thumper rocks her hips and points her finger at her cheeks and chin. She is at once coy and innocent, like a latter-day Shirley Temple. If there is something mildly disconcerting about a child performing this number, no one seems to notice.
At Charm, the talent competition does not count toward Supreme Queen - the most important title in the pageant - and Susan is already cutting her losses. 'We're doing this for practice," she offers. "It's not her normal talent routine. Thumper is a real beginner singer."
For the beauty competition Saturday moming, Thumper is made up by Toni, a pretty young mother who was herself a beauty queen and whose infant daughter now competes. She charges Susan $250 for two days. 'Toni makes Thumper prettier than anyone else," says Susan.
Dresses for the Beauty segment are elaborate Thumper's is made with palepeach crepe and decorated with velvet roses, clusters of pearls, and rhinestone applique. It shimmers under the lights.
Although she knows some people are critical of the practice, Susan has Thumper's hair colored. 'The last twelve inches were blond from swimming in chlorinated pools]," she explains. 'When we put it up, her roots were so dark, it looked like she was wearing a false hairpiece. I had her hair highlighted to even it out. Now she looks more natural than when she was natural."
Susan knows that the kids who appear joyful and spontaneous onstage have a better chance of winning -which is why she's so concerned about Thumper's smile. 'Thumper recently picked up a habit of locking a freeze smile on her face," Susan says. "It's not genuine. I told her to justflat-out smile. That's what the judges want to see."
As they head to the ballroom, Susan asks Thumper, "What do you do when you turn around on stage?" "Monkey lips," Thumper replies, laughing at the words.
Susan explains. "When she turns upstage, she throws her lips out like a monkey. It relaxes them. Then when she turns back to the judges, she has a natural smile."
Charm's Beauty competition begins with the youngest group-children 1 year old and under, helped on stage by their parents. Things move quickly, and it isn't long before the emcee calls the older girls.
"Do you want to say a prayer before you go on?" a pretty woman asks her 7-year-old granddaughter. Together they bow their heads: "The light of God surrounds me. The love of God enfolds me." Just before her entrance, the girl is reminded to "flow like the angels."
Now master of ceremonies Tim Whitmer, a handsome former Air Force sergeant, is crying out, 'Welcome number seventy-four, Thumper Gosney!" To the accompaniment of mellow synthesizer music, Thumper floats across the stage. Just above the judge's table, she perfom1s a universal turn, crossing one foot over the other and slowly rotating -all the while keeping her eyes locked on the judges. Her broad smile is dazzling. The monkey lips have worked.
'Thumper's ambition is to be a veterinarian and a cartoonist," Tim announces. Her score is 29.7 out of a possible 30.
After beauty, Thumper changes into a coral pantsuit for the modeling competition. Pageant modeling is like a choreographed dance, a series of spins, struts, sassy poses, smiles, and pouts, all perfom1ed at breakneck speed. Thumper's choreography was changed just a few days ago, and Susan is concerned that her daughter's under rehearsed moves may be forgotten.
Thumper learns quickly, according to her mother, but she doesn't particularly like to rehearse At home, "she'd rather draw or watch the Disney Channel or play on her computer or work on math. She's a couch potato." Thumper isn't always so well groomed, either. "For school, you can't get a bow on her," Susan complains, "or even get her to brush her teeth or comb her hair." Apparently, it takes an audience to bring out the competitor in Thumper. "She absolutely loves being on stage," Susan says. "She can't wait to get out there."
Now Thumper hears her dance music and shoots across the stage. Though she seems a little tentative at first, her movements are clean and precise. At one point, she swings her cape over her head, back and forth like a matador. Then, just as she did pool side, Thumper drops the cape and catches it on her forearm.
Her scores are almost perfect. Thumper now has a chance at winning Supreme.
Next comes her favorite part. Western Wear. "That's because I don't have to wear pantyhose," Thumper says with a grin. "I can wear socks in my boots." Drenched in spangles, sequins, and glitter, Western Wear costumes are amazingly intricate. In a flash, Thumper is decked out in a neon lime-green coat trimmed with dyed-to-match fox fur. The mid-thigh-length coat conceals a sleeveless top and pair of shores -covered, hula-style, with shimmering gold disks that she reveals midway through the number. Thumper attacks her routine with relish, pumping her knees and elbows, and leaping in the air to click her heels. She pulls another top score.
Pageant outfits are frequently resold and refitted. Although Thumper's Western Wear costume originally Cost $2,200, Susan picked it up from another pageant mother for much less.
"People sell their clothes because their children have outgrown them, or they want a new look," says Faye DeMatteo. Some mothers think that buying a dress from a winner will help their own child's chances.
JonBenet's mother, Patsy Ramsey, was in the market for some custom made costumes at a local pageant called Dream Star held in Rome, GA, over Thanksgiving weekend 1996. After striking up a conversation with Faye in a restaurant, Patsy asked about the outfits she was selling. Patsy ended up buying Rayanna's fancy white pageant dress, made of silk organza. One month later, JonBenet was buried in it.
The DeMatteos went to the funeral. "All the girls in JonBenet's group from Dream Star bought an enteral light for her grave," says Faye.
Sunday morning, there is a prayer service in the ballroom conducted by pageant sound technician Larry Cole. "We are all God's children," Larry tells his sleepy-eyed audience. "Just as we watch over and guide our children, God watches us."
After devotionals, Larry plays the sound track from Gone With the Wind, as the emcee announces contestants for the final competition-Southern Belle, featuring designs and fabrics true to the Civil War period. Girls waft in wearing large hoop skirts of velvet and silk, their capes trimmed with lace or fur, ~ .their hair heaped in tight ringlets. Many look like miniature Scarlett O'Haras.
Thumper seems intimidated by the costumes of her competitors. "I think the other dresses are prettier than mine," she says. 'They're so fancy." Actually, r Susan has gotten compliments for the simplicity of Thumper's outfit -a paleaqua dress with short puffed sleeves and lacy pantaloons Susan came up with the design after extensive library research, and she is proud of the result.
When it's her turn, Thumper moves downstage fanning herself and twirling her parasol. Demurely, she lifts her skirt in front of the judges to reveal the pantaloons. Then, as she begins a universal tum, her fan suddenly falls to the ground. This could cost her serious points, but Thumper doesn't flinch She continues her turn, curtsying when her back is to the judges and retrieving her fan as if the whole thing had been deliberate. "She did it so smoothly," Susan says, "the judges didn't even notice."
But they do notice the peach ribbon sewn into Thumper's pantaloons. Civil War children apparently did not have colored ribbons in their undergarments, and the mistake costs Thumper two tenths of a point. Susan is mortified.
On Sunday evening, everyone dresses for the crowning The girls have changed back into their Beauty gowns and touched up their hair and makeup on st'age. Orange, pink, and yellow lights flash behind the silver curtain, as the sound track from The Bridges of Madison County plays over the loudspeakers.
There are so many awards, so many alternates, it's almost impossible to keep track. Dozens of plaques and trophies are presented to each age group, passed out by last year's winners, known as Charm Royalty. The emcee rushes through the names, as the audience shouts and claps. All the contestants seem to walk away carrying something.
When Thumper's group takes the stage, the emcee calls out her name again and again, as she sweeps her division, winning Dream Girl and the coveted National Beauty Queen. Strung with banners, Thumper is fitted with a rhinestone tiara as the audience applauds wildly. Susan is shouting and hugging her daughter. Standing beside a five-foot-high glittering trophy, Thumper grins from ear to ear.
But it is 5-year-old Leslie Butler who wins Supreme Queen, scoring six-tenths of a point ahead of Thumper. Leslie has two dads who are famous pageant coaches -her real father, Michael Butler, and his partner in business and in life, Shane King. Michael was awarded custody of Leslie when she was an infant, and he started her in pageants at the age of 3 months. (He carried her on stage in a pink dress, and she slept through the whole thing -and won.) Now the two men rash to the stage and sweep Leslie off her feet.
Thumper insists she isn't bothered by losing Supreme Queen And she notes with satisfaction that "National Beauty Queen gets the same-size crown as Supreme. It's just not the same title." Susan, too, is pleased, pointing out that Thumper has won a total of $2,400 in savings bonds. But Susan is still upset about the peach ribbon. Later she will lean that the judges for the Photogenic and Portfolio competitions thought Thumper was wearing too much makeup in her pictures. And that it was the makeup problem that probably cost her the crown.
For her part, Darlene Burgess has begun to feel more confident about Charm's future. "Pageants will make a comeback," she predicts, "because everybody thinks their babies are pretty ."
The lights come up in the ballroom, and the contestants revert to ordinary little girls, charging around and pestering their parents. They want to play with their new friends. They want to shed their dresses, take down their hair, order room-service pizza, watch a video, organize a slumber party.
Thumper wants to swim. "Come on, Mom," she says, bouncing up and down and tugging at Susan's arm. "Let's go right now!" Still flushed with pride, Susan gathers up her daughter's trophies and follows along.

Child psychologists differ on lessons contestants learn in competitions
By CLIFFORD PUGH
Copyright 1997 Houston Chronicle

With only a few minutes to go before the start of the Little Miss Mardi Gras pageant, the Holiday Inn in La Marque is a frenzy of curling irons and costumes.

In the hallway, 12-year-old Shanelle Ecrette is practicing her runway walk under the watchful eye of her coach, D'Juana Oxford, and her mother, Yoli.

Cherie Rosenauer can only practice her crawl, since she's only 11 months old and hasn't learned to walk yet. But that hasn't deterred her mom, Barbara, from entering her.

"She's so cute in my eyes," Barbara says. "I want to see if it's only my eyes or someone else's."

Most participants are excited because a CNN camera crew is covering the pageant, which was held on Sunday. But there's also an undercurrent of anger among these "pageant moms," who feel besieged by intense media coverage of the phenomenon.

The murder of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey in Colorado has cast kids' beauty pageants into the spotlight and sparked a national debate about whether such pageants benefit or exploit children.

Proponents insist it's all good, clean fun. They say mothers spend a lot of time with their daughters planning and participating in such contests. And they claim the youngsters learn valuable lessons about manners, grooming and how to win and lose gracefully.

"It's irritating to say we're exploiting our children. My daughter is up there dressing up, showing off and having fun," says Carolyn Johnson, whose 3-year-old daughter, Catarina, is a contestant. "These kids play dress-up at home. Why not on stage?"

But provocative contest photos showing Ramsey dressed like a Las Vegas showgirl and shown in other sultry poses have unsettled many parents and child psychologists. Some experts contend little girls are being oversexualized and not allowed to develop normally by participating in such pageants.

"It's as if they're put in a little time capsule and had 10 or 15 years added on," says Houston child psychologist Elizabeth Dybell. "It's not dress-up pretending to go to work like mommy does or vacuum the house like mommy does. It's a very sexualized, sensual model of someone who's trying to get attention."

Children's beauty pageants make up a large part of the multimillion dollar pageant industry. Hundreds of children's beauty pageants are staged each year throughout the nation. In Houston, there's at least one such pageant going on in the area almost every weekend.

Within the next month, such contests as Miss Holiday Doll, American Royalty Supreme Queen, Little Miss Texas Rodeo, Stars Over Texas Beginner Westernwear, and Little Miss Sunburst will take place in the Houston area.

Most of the local pageants have entry fees ranging from $20 to $150 and feature appearances at events like Mardi Gras in Galveston or the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for the winners.

Other pageants are the first step to competing on the state and national levels, where entry fees are higher ($300 or more) and prizes include hundreds, sometimes thousands, of dollars in savings bonds and cash.

In most pageants, the tiny contestants compete in three categories: sportswear, costume and party dress, often interpreted as evening gowns.

Rosenauer spent $85 for a pink satin party dress with matching bow for her infant's debut in the Little Miss Mardi Gras pageant. Other contestants in the 6-through-11 age group wear long, sequined gowns.

At the national level, costumes easily cost hundreds of dollars, says Pamela Garey, organizer of America's Sophisticated Miss and Mr. Beauty and Talent Extravaganza, to be held in Houston in March.

Her 5-year-old daughter, Sahara, has been competing in pageants since she was 8 months old. The child, who is the current Miss Southern Star National Beauty Queen, has won more than 200 pageants.

She has been so successful on the children's pageant scene that she no longer appears in local pageants like Little Miss Mardi Gras. Instead she concentrates on eight to 10 national pageants a year.

To prepare for these, Sahara regularly visits two pageant trainers in Alabama who work on her hair and makeup and go over her runway routines. A seamstress in Missouri sews her pageant outfits.

"It can be very expensive, but she's my only daughter. She's worth it," Garey says.

In fact, says Garey, her daughter has reached the level where pageant participation pays for itself. Last year, the child earned between $5,000 and $6,000 in cash and prizes, her mother says.

"She is one of the few minorities to compete," says Garey, who is African-American. "A lot of time, minorities think it's a waste of time and money. I don't. I think if you keep them busy when they're young, they don't have time to dwell on negative things."

Dressed in a lavender silk party dress and wearing an oversize crown, Sahara takes a walk down the runway during the Little Miss Mardi Gras pageant but, afterward, plops on the floor with a friend to play for most of the afternoon.

"She loves doing the pageants,"says Garey. "When she says no, I'll stay away."

Much of the nation believes that such "pageant moms" couldn't step away so easily. In a recent poll for the television show Dateline NBC, 62 percent of those questioned said parents benefit the most from children's beauty pageants. Only 3 percent of those polled said the children were benefiting the most.

Sylviane Sydney Kitchen, organizer of the Little Miss Mardi Gras pageant, maintains that all of the kids come away as winners. She points out that her pageant gives prizes and crowns to all contestants and that they make visits to senior citizens homes and other community events.

"You have a little girl, 2 or 3, where is she going to socialize? They bring toys and they play and they socialize and see each other. It's like a social event for these little kids," says Kitchen.

While Houston psychologist Carol Brady wouldn't recommend this path for her daughters, she says she has known some instances in which pageants have served as a family event, similar to participation in a stage play or drum and bugle corps.

She also questions the double standard that seems to apply to girls and not boys. "I wonder why we don't think it's so obnoxious when it's little boys looking like little athletes," she says.

Bunny Bennett, who has a daughter and two nieces participating in the Mardi Gras pageant, believes it teaches them poise, grace and how to be in the public eye.

"Those are things they can't learn in school," Bennett says. "Every one of them has a dream. They're not just little Barbie dolls we're trying to dress up."

Her daughter, Heather, age 10, says she hopes to compete in the Miss USA or Miss America pageants when she grows older. "I have a lot of fun," she says.

Houston child psychologist Joan Anderson, however, believes the children are just doing what their mothers want them to do. "I've been in practice for 25 years, and I've never seen a child say, `I really want to be in a beauty contest'," she says.

She adds it's not unusual for a child to be caught up in the hoopla when she has the full attention of a crowd, an adoring mom and beautiful costumes.

"If you put them in a candy store and say, `Go for it,' they're going to say, `This is great fun.' But it isn't in their best interests. They're too young to make a decision," says Anderson.

Child psychologist Dybell also worries that, by participating in such pageants at an early age, the child won't have an opportunity to experience such rites of passage as getting her first makeup set or wearing her first strapless ball gown at a normal time.

"You lose the opportunity to have that innocence," Dybell says. "A 5-year-old can't say, `Ten years down the road I won't have anything to look forward to'."

While several of the youngsters at the pageant say they aspire to be models, Page Parkes-Eveleth, owner of Page Parkes School of Modeling and Intermedia modeling agency, says she would never consider a 6-year-old in lipstick for a modeling career.

"Any mother who sent me a photo of her child with makeup and curled hair would be instantly sent a `no' letter," Parkes-Eveleth says. "Most girls who have been successful are tomboyish."

There are no tomboys on the stage of the Little Miss Mardi Gras Pageant. Even the toddlers wear some makeup, and some contestants look far older than their age.

Some contestants do act like kids, however. One 3-year-old seems bewildered by the attention and won't walk down the makeshift runway.

But a more practiced veteran of children's beauty pageants, introduced as Skye with no last name, evokes laughter when asked, "What did your mommy tell you not do?"The 4-year-old, who has won hundreds of pageant titles, replies, "Not to put my finger in my nose."

By the end of a long afternoon, many of the smaller children are asleep on their parents' shoulders as they await the contest results. Some children have to be roused to go up and claim their crowns.

On this day, the winners are those girls with the fanciest costumes and most makeup and who look the most like young adults. Several moms scrutinize the judges' scorecards like the racing form afterward to see where low marks came.

But at least one mother new to the scene, Barbara Rosenauer, is happy with the outcome, even though her 11-month-old daughter placed second in her age group.

"She'll turn 1 in a month, and then we'll see," says Rosenauer about her daughter's future in pageants. "At least she didn't cry."

Ever wondered if anyone makes the money promised in those work-at-home advertisements? Or if each forwarded e-mail will really mean a donation of 10 cents from Microsoft to an orphan's organ-transplant operation? The answer is no. These stories are urban legends, e-mail rumors and scams. They are but a few of what we like to call financial fiction. The following are some of the most popular and most creative examples waiting in in-boxes.

Neiman Marcus' expensive cookie recipe
Here's what happened. My Aunt Cynthia was having lunch at Neiman Marcus with my cousin. For dessert, they had these delicious cookies and my aunt asked the waitress for the recipe. The waitress said they the recipe sold for "two fifty." My Aunt thought that meant $2.50 said OK. But when she got her bill they charged her $250. She was furious but they wouldn't refund her money. So in revenge, she's giving away the recipe to anyone who wants it.

Can you believe that? You can? Sucker. It never happened. But this rumor has been circulating for decades. A similar story about a $25 red velvet cake recipe has been traced as far back as the 1940s. If you want the cookie recipe, Neiman Marcus has gotten so sick of the bad press about this false rumor that the company posted the recipe on its Web site.

Forwarded e-mail for money or donations
Microsoft and Disney are both beta-testing an e-mail tracker and will send you money if you forward this e-mail. The Gap is testing an e-mail tracker and will send you a gift certificate. The Red Cross is using its e-mail tracker and will donate money for some poor kid's operation or to raise funds for an orphan of Sept. 11.

If you believe any of these stories, I have some bad news for you. There is no such thing as an e-mail tracker. Coke won't send you free cans. Gerber won't send you savings bonds. Cracker Barrel won't send you gift certificates. A Britney Spears' video won't pop up as the result of you forwarding an e-mail. And AOL has a public relations department that gets news out a lot more efficiently than any chain mail ever could. You get nothing but the embarrassment of knowing that everyone you forward this e-mail to will think you're a fool.

Nigerian scam letter
Greetings, sir. I got your e-mail address from a very confidential source -- the Internet. I am the prince, minister and Grand Poo-ba of one of many foreign nations that you stupid Americans have never heard of. There is a billion, kazillion dollars in an account here that rightfully belongs to my family and my people. Due to some horrid-bloody military coup in which my entire family, several accountants and various goats lost their lives, I cannot reach this money. But you, an American who has never heard of my country, can march right into the corner branch of God-Forsaken-War-Torn-East-of-Nowhere-Africa and deposit this money right into your fat American bank account. For your trouble, I'll give you a few million off the top -- because what's a few million between confidential best friends who have never actually even heard of one another?

OK, let's start from the top. Do not kid yourself. You are not so important that the High Priest of Anywhere will e-mail you requesting help. Rid yourself of your delusions of grandeur -- or as we say back home, you may sing "Like a Virgin" into your hairbrush every night, but that doesn't make you Madonna.

Here's what will happen when you give strangers your bank account information: They will take your money. Period. End of story. You get nothing, but you lose a lot.

Work at home
Old scam, new format. You should immediately run from anyone who promises lots of money for little work that requires no experience. While there are companies that allow their employees to work from home, they require job skills and interviews, just like regular jobs. Work-at-home scams will ask you to purchase supplies and equipment from them to perform the "job." That's how they make their money. You will lose -- not make -- money.

You won! And you didn't even enter!
How can you take anything seriously that uses so many exclamation marks?!!!!! Guess what!!!!! You didn't win anything!!!! These people will try to finagle money out of you by saying you need to pay taxes or fees to collect your prize!!!!! Or they will give you a free trip that requires you to buy very expensive airline tickets through their agency!!!! Don't be a sucker!!!!!

You'll receive $5,000 for sending $25
Here's how it works. Send $5 to the five people on the list or to the address that will send you the "reports." In return for your money you'll get -- nothing -- because this is a scam. Well, maybe you'll get something -- a conviction for mail fraud because this is illegal.

Tricking the traffic court
The Web-watching site Truthorfiction.com reports that a rumor is currently circling e-mails accounts claiming that there's a sneaky way to keep a traffic ticket off your driving record: pay a little more than the amount on the ticket. The court will send you a refund check. If you don't cash the check, the computer won't mark your case as closed and the ticket will never show up on your record. This idea is great in theory, lousy in reality. It doesn't work. Here's a way to keep tickets off your record that does work: slow down.

Tax or long-distance charges on e-mail
You got a forwarded e-mail from your friend that says you will soon be charged for your long-distance e-mails, just like you are charged for long-distance phone calls. Oh, really? And what will the phone company use to compute your bill -- its e-mail tracker? Calm down. No one is going to charge you long distance for your e-mails. This is an e-mail myth.

Clinton got rid of the IRS -- no more taxes
That sneaky Bill Clinton -- did you know that when he wasn't gallivanting about with interns he was busy getting Congress to pass secret legislation that would forgive all debts and abolish the Internal Revenue Service? Alan Greenspan was going to announce it on Sept. 11, 2001 but didn't because of the terrorist attacks. Oh, wishful thinking -- or maybe not. A move like that is the equivalent of tossing what's left of our economy into a vast financial toilet and flushing with the combined might of the National Football League. In the plausible department, this rumor, reported by Truthorfiction.com, is right up there with alien cattle mutilations and Cameron Diaz spending a Friday night alone at home, eating Ben & Jerry's because she couldn't get a date -- completely ridiculous.

Pageant Mom's who bash boys doing pageants are such hypocrites. You protest vehemetly when "outsiders" say you should not put your daughters in pageants. When someone states you are going to turn your dd into a stripper you scream "NO". You go on the attack when some morons on a "gossip" board call you terrible Mom's for subjecting your dd to the makeup and "sexy" clothes and potential pedophiles. But you turn around and say something just as hurtful and untrue about boys in pageants. Try to be more tolerant -since that is what you ask of those who do not agree with little girls in pageants. They feel just as strongly as you do about boys not doing pageants.

I was at DDA and watched Regan perform. Wow!! What a talented, beutiful little girl. I wish my daughters had as much poise and grace as that little girl. Shame on anyone who has made ugly comments about her. Remember JEALOUSY is a deadly sin and that is what you people are all about. Be proud for Regan and all she has accomplished in her little life, I know I am. Bonnie I'm proud of you, too.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I KNOW that I absolutely should NOT post, but I just feel that I have to. THANK YOU, Board Owner for finally removing all the CRAP about Bonnie. You group of ladies can come on here as much as you want and pretend to be Bonnie, you can invent letters that "she" has written, you can lie and say that she contacted the Dr. Phil show, you can lie and say that she bashes anyone and everyone. There are several reasons that I will NEVER believe you. One is that I have known her since our very first pageant. She has come to every pageant and cheered for every child, even yours and that just disgusts me. I asked her a few months ago why her husband and son weren't traveling with her and she said that Cash is taking a driver's ed class on Saturdays this fall. I, for one, think that they are a beautiful family and that boy is so well-mannered as is Reagan too. If she was all bad, her children would not be well behaved, well mannered. I have seen the type of people that YOU are, -- and your childish behavior leaves much to be desired. Not a day can go by w/o you coming on here bashing Bonnie. Well, I for one am SICK to death of it. I just wanted you to know that there are still many of us who think that Bonnie is a wonderful mother and friend., 03:30:04 11/23/04 Tue
As for you laughing because Cassadde beat Reagan, guess what? Cassadee beat YOUR daughters even worse than she beat Reagan. CassCass won plenty of the 0-5 Overalls, and I didn't see YOUR daughters even winning their own age group in anything. Bonnie was delighted with the results of DDA Nationals. She was only hoping for a beauty title because it was Reagan's first big national. And I didn't see any of YOUR children onstage when they called Top 15, so don't bash the little girl too hard. Saying that she looks like a pig is absolutely the funniest thing that I've ever heard. You people are the ones who need help.

And lying that Bonnie "cheated" and that Reagan isn't a Novice is so typical of you. You don't make a big deal of the other contestants that didn't include Jackpots in their winnings, only Bonnie. Did it ever occur to you maybe the Directors told them NOT to??? Think before your ugly. Pretending that EVERY negative thing that happens in your life is Bonnie's fault is so stupid. Like that mother from down there lying about her daughter's age, then trying to pretend it was Bonnie's fault.

Get over yourselves already. Take SOME RESPONSIBILITY. My god, certainly you people have better things to do than come on here all day long and bash. Do you take turns monitoring? Or are you just all unemployed?

I also don't know why I think that you can be "reasoned" with because you obviously are not a reasonable group.

I want you to know that people have noticed - you used to constantly bash Reagan, but the BO would delete it too quickly for your liking. So you switched your m.o. and bash Bonnie - you LOVE that because it stays up longer. And you can cry "no one's jealous" all you want, but anyone in there right mind can see that you are so green that you can't sleep at night - deny it all you want.

As for the dead cat, I'm sure that was your doing too. And you can lie all you want about that too.

One more thing. I don't necessarily agree with going on the Dr. Phil show but I thought she did a great job, looked professional. I was expecting the worst, because Dr. Phil can be so pompous, but I thought he was quite docile in her interview and Reagan looked spectacular!

I am sure that I will think of one hundred more things to say after I hit SEND, however, I will not come on and keep posting under the bashing that you are going to do. I just wanted you locos to know that you can say that she bashes my children or whatever, but YOU are the only bashers making asses out of yourselves.

Sorry, BO, but I am so saddened by the constant badgering. I know for a FACT that Bonnie does not come on these boards anymore and I think that is her mistake. She can't take up for herself. I felt the need to inform these crazies that no matter what they post, there are those of us still out here who will allow Bonnie's past behavior in our presence to determine that she isn't the lunatic ... they are.

I think some of the boys when allowed to be boys are cute. But damn some of the moms are slapping make-up on their boys like C.H Dawn's kid, and AD and and few others. I have ntohign against homosexuality but please give the make up on all the childrn a break especially the boys. Pink lips an dblush in photos, these boys can't have fathers! (NT) -- No name, 18:01:55 09/14/04 Tue
LMAO lady you're a nut and you obviously don't know C !!! The person who will be able to put makeup on that kid isnt born yet. (NT) -- No name, 18:11:27 09/14/04 Tue
roflmao isnt that the truth. If you knew CH you would know that kid doesnt sit still for more than 20 seconds at a time. They would chase him with a comb just to fix his hair LOL makeup imagine that! (NT) -- No name, 18:14:33 09/14/04 Tue
Who is CH? Sorry, we are new to the pageant world. (NT) -- No name, 22:27:26 09/14/04 Tue
I think that the tanning and makeup is taking it too far. And the boys pics being retouched also. It was hard enough to get used to seeing my daughter all made up. I wont subject my son to that. (NT) -- No name, 22:33:49 09/14/04 Tue
my son did pageants as a BABY, they were fun and cute at that age. I agree that as long as they are being boys, it is cute and on the older boys they look so handsome all dressed up in their tuxes, but some have DEFINITELY taken it too far with some of the sissy stuff they are doing on stage. My husband would die if I tried that feminine stuff with our son!!! And I'm pretty sure these boys are never gonna let their parents live it down for doing that to them. (NT) -- No name, 23:58:28 09/14/04 Tue
I agree. My son is getting older and now I don't like him doing anything but beauty and casual wear. The rest just starting looking really girley to me. He's ready to stop now. I want him to just outgrow his tux. And I know the retouch is awful, seems no matter what we say some of the retouchers will do what they want no matter how many times you send them back. A boy that;s all boy will let you know when enough is enough with pageants . Mine is seven and that's it folks! lol!!!! (NT) -- No name, 00:10:52 09/15/04 Wed
About five or six most BOYS note the capitals, lol! will start complaining about doing them. I think seven should be the absolute limit on pageant boy divisions. JMHO (NT) -- No name, 00:14:55 09/15/04 Wed
Yep! Mine is turning six and said no more too! That's the age where you have to start asking your ownself, is this more for me or him? If it's for him at his request at six, I'd be starting to worry about him or that I had turned him into a sissy! lol!!!!! He knows he'd rather be on a ballfield on the weekend now than a pageant stage! Awwwww why do those sweet little guys have to grow up? LOL!!!!!! As far as him pro-aming, no day, no way!!!!!!!! (NT) -- No name, 12:06:02 09/15/04 Wed
We did a nationals pageant in July and the boys were tanned, had their hair done, and wore makeup. Also have seen a boy do a real sissy proam before. That's just too much for a boy. (NT) -- No name, 10:56:01 09/15/04 Wed
Donna Butts does not play favorites. She cheers for all her kids. She even cheers for kids that don't take modeling from her. You don't know her at all! (NT) -- No name, 12:14:27 09/15/04 Wed
My boy started pageanting May 04 on a whim and is asking to do them more now I feel bad that I did not start him earlier since he likes it so much and boys are not given a chance to compete after 6 or 7 (NT) -- No name, 13:10:44 09/15/04 Wed
he just turned 5 (NT) -- No name, 13:28:08 09/15/04 Wed
my son did pageants until there were no more age groups for him. He never wore make up and his head shots were from a local photo studio (no touch ups). He didn't turn out girly or anything. (NT) -- No name, 13:19:45 09/15/04 Wed
It may be wrong of me but I think of pageants as very feminine! I can't believe there is a boy out there that begs to do them. If they enjoy modeling maybe boys' moms could check with a modeling agency. Went to a pageant where ther were a couple of brothers that competed (like age 8 and 10) and they just looked rediculous!!! So sissy-like!I would be kind of concerned if I had a boy that liked to dress up all fancy and model! (NT) -- No name, 14:51:23 09/15/04 Wed
And homophobic views and catorgirizing this as girl and that as boy is what will keep women making less than men in corporate world and men that model and nurse and are assistants being thought of as sissys.. Please my DS is rough and tumble and plays with trucks and all the other things you would consider "Boy stuff" he also does ballet, has been modeling and acting since age 11months (he has very good agents which was why I never thought to enter him in pageants since I thought was only for kids tring to get an agent) I promise you he does not do a "sissy routine" in fact he doesn't have a routine he goes up and has fun with the music and comes up with stuff that is beating the girls because it is NATURAL having fun. Seems that Ultimate Queen and Petite Universal ended up with the same queen. Thought you couldn't carry two titles from the same director but I guess it doesn't matter since AC doesn't live 20-30 mintues down the road. I guess it's true what has been going around about this pageant system and this really proves it true. I hope the director is happy since no one in their right mind would compete in this pageant system again knowing they have pre-picked winners!

This is what happened to me at Ultimate Queen and some interesting information on Petite Universal.

Want to see what a bad Pageant Hair and Makeup job looks like go to the link I have enclosed and see who not to use for Hair and Makeup. He charged me $300 and I ended up with a white face when I am dark completed. He tried to tell me that you use two shades lighter for stage makeup, I thought I had always been told differently but I trusted this man. I figured it up on my score sheet and I lost a total of 51 points alone on just my facial beauty. The judges took off 3-4 points per judge on facial beauty alone. The score sheet is on the site. You also might find out what really happened at Ultimate in Indiana. Might be some interesting information on Petite Universal coming up in August that might make you change your mind about attending. Such as playing favoritism, contestants babysitting SH daughter. Many more things happened also and I believe it is time everyone was warned about my opinion on how good of a show that she can put on, but when it comes down to it she shows her true colors. The pictures alone speak for themselves on what a poor job that Charlie Boyd done to me. Not including the threating emails I received from the SH after me confronting CB about the poor job he done on me .I a know that I was the only person that come out looking like a zombie after all the girls he done. I will enclose more pictures on my website showing that not all the girls he done did not look like my makeup job. I personally think they have something working together. The ladies that won all age groups either new one of the judges which one of them was only 18 or was babysitting SH child or SH had won one of the girls that competed and won. It was more of a pageant for her friends. They were in a clique and you didn’t have a chance if you weren’t in that clique. Check it out and see what you think. Also I am not going to be competing any longer so if anyone needs anything pageant clothing, shoes, jewelry. I have a brand new gown that has been wore once Ultimate, a yellow bathing suit,a red interview suit to die for, shoes, all kinds of pageant stuff. If interested just email me at coledana@charter.net and I will give you more information on what I do have. I have pictures of it all.

Mona please pay the debts you owe before setting up a pageant. Not a bash but wanted you to know I would be there if you paid up. Best of luck, hope to see you there (NT) -- JFYI, 22:52:10 03/11/04 Thu
Ok, we are new to Texas and we are planning on doing this pageant, is there something I need to know? I Have not heard anything, just thought it was a good deal. (NT) -- Thanks, 23:10:19 03/11/04 Thu
Hello Mona. I could have sworn I just got an email from you stating how sick you are. How you dont have rides to get any where. You just got out fo the hospital. How you just at 11:15 pm on 3/11/04 got out of bed to call me over this HUGE mistake. But I can see the time on this post. You are planning a little pageant of your own??? You are in bed extremely ill, sware the $1,200 for the pageant your daughter is suppose to be at (she swares she sold this many ads) tomorrow in Atlanta. Then you stated that you thought it was another day. Then again how sick and in bed you were. What is this womans deal??? I come across the fact that she has a pageant planned. I will attach my email. If anyone cares to read the information this lady has sent me over the last week to get her daughter into a pageant. She is obviously taking up money that way and using it for her own pageant??? beware! (NT) -- info, 05:44:33 03/12/04 Fri
we're confused - what exactly are you saying? not seeing whats wrong with someone not feeling well but on their computer trying to organize a pageant? (NT) -- confused sorry, 13:47:28 03/12/04 Fri
Does anyone have anything positive to say about this system. We really want to know. (NT) -- Thanks., 17:08:32 03/12/04 Fri
Well, this woman always sends out notices that she's going to have a pageant, and she NEVER does. If you call the place she's supposedly booked for the event, they will tell you they've never heard of her. She just can't seem to get organized. I don't really understand why she says she's going to have a pageant and then never does... (NT) -- from experience with her..........., 17:20:34 03/12/04 Fri
As said before, pageants are only cancelled when there is ONLY one entry. You can't have a pageant with one person or with two that are sisters. -- mona, 18:28:49 03/12/04 Fri
Click in up there. (NT) -- me,

Please pass this information along to anyone you think might be interested...thank you…

Hey everyone,
My name is Robbie Wilson & I am with a non-profit organization called Queen for a Day. The goal of this non-profit is to raise the self-esteem & self-confidence of young girls with cancer (or other illnesses). We do this by hosting tea parties at hospitals where the girls receive a make-over & tiaras (donated by titleholders or pageant companies across the country)! The girls have their pictures taken with a title holder to commemorate this special day!

Since we are a non-profit we rely heavily on donations & we are running EXTREMELY low on tiaras! The National Headquarters has had to supply tiaras for 19 parties in the last 3 months & it has taken a heavy toll on our tiaras. If you would like to donate your tiaras, or know somebody who would like to, please contact me at Qfadmemphis@aol.com

Also, here is the website address www.qfad.org

Please go check it out & if you have any tiaras you could let go of let me know...the girls absolutely love it!

Thanks so much for your time!
Have a great day,
Robbie Wilson

Due to people not following the rules, We are getting 3-5 people who do not know the kids to vote. We will announce the winner Nov 5. Im so sorry about this, We were hoping to have a fun and fair contest for the kids but it seems we cant do that when some moms feel they need to take advantage of a FREE situation. I've been in bed all weekend with the flu. Both my kids have it and my youngest is home now with an ear ache. Baby-sitting a free photo contest is not something I want to be doing right now.

And just for the Record I wanted to "disqualify" a few but Summer said NO its for the kids.

Its one thing to have mom, and grandma, even a few friends Vote twice maybe even three times a day, but over 800 times in a weekend is a little much!!!

Im sorry for all this. I hope the next time we have a contest the rules will be followed.

1. Congratulate everyone you know when they win, even if it was against your child.
2. Be kind. Watch what you say at pageants to and about others. Walls are thin and so is skin!
3. Save your anger and tears of disappointment for when you are driving home and your child is asleep. Children misundertand mommie's anger and take it as they did not live up to what was expected.
4. Be quiet. Sometimes silence IS golden.
5. Be real, it's only a title and depending on who is there competing means whether your child will walk out winning or losing.
6. Undertand it's an opinion just what you paid for and everyone has one. It may not be your opinion but then if it were, you would be judging not competing your child!
7. If a pageant is up and up, the director can NOT work it to your favor if the judges decided against your child. No matter how good friends you are or what you say after, accept the decision and handle it with maturity and grace, it's only a pageant. Do not scream at the director it is not their fault no matter what they said prior to the pageant. Your child stands a wonderful chance does not mean your child is going to win!
8. If winning means so much you will destroy people to take home a crown, rethink why you do pageants.
9. Support your friends on their wins and losses, if your child wins over them, do not rub their faces in it. Next time it may be them wearing the crown!
10. No matter what you think and feel keep it where it belongs inside yourself. To do otherwise takes away from the winners. If you think a decision was unfair or a director slanted, do not do the pageant again. No explanation needed to the director....remember SILENCE IS GOLDEN!

Because pageants don't exist here!
Haha it was funny though (im niot being sarcastic!)
What is all tgis business about "names" and "regulars" and "pros" what the heckers are these? Who, at this precise moment are thesd people? If there is ONE kid in America, who is the "Best"? I am desperat4e to know!
Ps: on the Royal Elegance Website, CF and EL and D (don't know 2nd name) are VERY cute!!!
So is CC!
I really am form Britain but just a Pageant Junkie!
Nothing else to do but watch the rain!
I know all the pageants and stuff!

Petition to Ban -- texaspageantmom, 06:08:49 04/29/03 Tue
Petition to Ban Loni Moore and Julia Poff

We (Texas Pageant Moms) are starting this petition to ban Loni Moore and Julia Poff from ALL Texas Pageants. These two woman have caused so much pain and tourmoil in the pageant community and we want them stopped. Some of us even fear for our safety and our childrens safety when these women are present. Loni has threatened the life of an innocent child, she has admitted to bashing of innocent children, and she has told more lies than anyone can count. Julia has written MANY checks to pageant people on a closed account and has bashed many innocent children and parents. She owes several pageant people lots of money and now she even owes her contestants from expo. We do NOT want these women in our pageant family nor in our pageant community. Now these women have joined together and there is absolutely no telling what they will be up to next. Lets PLEASE put a stop to these ladies now and get the directors to join together in banning these two women.

If you would like to be added to this list please email me!
No ones name will be posted accept when the complete list
is sent to the Texas Directors. No posting will be made on public
boards and I already have the cooperation of several directors to
help us in this matter.

Thank you and have a great day!

New Topic! What is your take on boys in pageants? I have a 4 year old boy and my husband thinks it will make him a "sissy" if I continue with him in pageants. -- Positvie comments please, 13:44:33 09/20/02 Fri

I also have a 4 year old boy in pageants and he is everything but a sissy. He is 110% boy and there is nothing he does in pageants that makes him a sissy. Pageants have helped him have great confindence and meet lots of friends. He loves doing pageants and as long as he enjoys it we will continue. Tell your hubby to lighten up, it isn't like you are putting a dress on him, lol. (NT) -- Becky and Blake, 13:59:36 09/20/02 Fri
Would also like to add that one of the reasons Blake loves doing pageants is because of all of the "girlfriends" he gets to see. He loves baseball, football, and basketball but he isn't old enough to play yet so why not allow him to participate in something he enjoys? He loves taking some of his crowns and prizes to school for show and tell and all of the kids love it when he comes to school and says he won again. I say, keep your boy in pageants as long as he enjoys it and is having a good time! (NT) -- Becky and Blake, 13:10:06 09/22/02 Sun
I have two boys 13 and 16 who do one pageant system. They are both active football players for their schools. DEFINATELY NOT SISSY. Let your son decide (NT) -- Melissa, 14:18:00 09/20/02 Fri
I don't think my son's would like to be in a pageant past 3 or 4 years old. But some kids don't mind. I can say my husband would never go for it past that age.I am so thankful that I finally had a girl and now we enjoy it together while the guys watch football or basketball on the weekends. (NT) -- Do what works for you. JMHO, 17:22:22 09/20/02 Fri
BOYS IN PAGEANTS -- CINDY & JUSTIN, 19:58:11 09/20/02 Fri
My 5 yr old son does them and he loves it.As long as he likes doing it I will let him.I have never made him. I have a 2yr. old daughter who isn't into that right now so I just let my son do it. Some people have told me it makes him a sissy, but it doesn't. It gives him confidence and self esteem and a chance to show off onstage. (NT) -- Boys in pageants is just fine. Lynsi, 11:37:12 09/22/02 Sun
I'm sorry to tell you but....MOST people do think boys in pageants in kind of sissy like. However...if your son really wants to do pageantsinstead of something else then don't worry about what people thinks and Have fun!!! (NT) -- pageant mom, 17:42:19 09/22/02 Sun
you know what most people think putting your daughter in pageants is exploiting her. They think you are sick to put makeup and hair on her.But hey if she likes it don't worry about what people think and have fun! (NT) -- boys fan, 03:52:55 09/25/02 Wed
oh and one more thing with that kind of thinking...maybe you are upset that a BOY won an overall or grand over your precious daughter? (NT) -- boys fan, 03:59:26 09/25/02 Wed

The same thing that always happens at Sunburst. There is no consistency. Sometimes pageant kids win, sometimes it's more of the newbie type kid. I've stopped trying to figure it out!

It says it all!

1. Big companies don't do business via chain letters and there are no
computer programs that track how many times an e-mail is forwarded, let
alone by whom. Bill Gates is not giving you $1000, and Disney is not giving
you a free vacation. There is no baby food
company issuing class-action checks.

2. Proctor and Gamble is not part of a satanic cult or scheme, and its logo
is not satanic.

3. MTV will not give you backstage passes if you forward something to the
most people.

4. The Gap is not giving away free clothes. You can relax; there is no need
to pass it on "just in case it's true."

5. There is no kidney theft ring in New Orleans. No one is waking up in a
bathtub full of ice, even if a friend of a friend swears it happened to
their cousin. If you are bent on believing the kidney theft ring stories,
see:

www.urbanlegends.tqn.com/library/weekly/aa062997.htm

And I quote: "The National Kidney Foundation has repeatedly issued requests
for actual victims of organ thieves to come forward and tell their
stories." None have. That's "none" as in "zero." Not even your friend's
cousin.

6. Neiman Marcus doesn't really sell a $200 cookie recipe. And even if they
do, we all have it. And even if you don't, you can get a copy at:
www.bl.net/forwards/cookie.html
Then, if you make the recipe, decide the cookies are that awesome, feel
free to pass the recipe on.

7. If the latest NASA rocket disaster(s) DID contain plutonium that went to
particulate over the eastern seaboard, do you REALLY think this information
would reach the public via an AOL chain letter?

8. There is no "Good Times" virus. In fact, you should never, ever, ever
forward any email containing any virus warning unless you first confirm
that an actual site of an actual company that actually deals with viruses.
Try:

www.symantec.com/avcenter/index.html
And even then, don't forward it. We don't care. And you cannot get a virus
from a flashing IM or email, you have to download it....ya know, like, a
FILE!

9. There is no gang initiation plot to murder any motorist who flashes
headlights at another car driving at night without lights.

10. If you still absolutely MUST forward that 10th-generation message from
a friend, at least have the decency to trim the eight miles of headers
showing everyone else who's received it over the last 6 months. (Think Cut
and Paste) It sure wouldn't hurt to get rid of all the ">>>.." that begin
each line either. Besides, if it has gone around that many times we've
probably already seen it.

11. Craig Shergold (or Sherwood, or Sherman, etc.) in England is not dying
of cancer or anything else at this time and would like everyone to stop
sending him their business cards. He apparently is no longer a "little boy"
either.

12. The "Make a Wish" foundation is a real organization doing fine work,
but they have had to establish a special toll free hot line in response to
the large number of Internet hoaxes using their good name and reputation.
It is distracting them from the important work they do. Also, the American
Cancer Society does not give 3 cents for each person you forward e-mail to.
They ask for you to donate money.... money, they don't give it, as if they
could know how many e-mails you sent out...sheesh.

13. If you are one of those insufferable idiots who forwards anything that
"promises" something bad will happen if you "don't,"-then something bad
will happen to you if I ever meet you in a dark alley.

14. Women really are suffering in Afghanistan, but forwarding an e-mail
won't help their cause in the least. If you want to help, contact your
local legislative representative, or get in touch with Amnesty
International or the Red Cross.

15. As a general rule, e-mail "signatures" are easily faked and mean
nothing to anyone with any power to do anything about whatever the
competition is complaining about.

16. KFC really does use real Chickens with feathers and beaks and feet. No,
they really do. Why did they change their name? In this health conscious
world, what was KFC's name? Kentucky FRIED Chicken. FRIED is not healthy.
So they changed the name to KFC. It's short, doesn't offend dieters and
it's easy to remember.

17.. Another thing, just because someone said in a message, four
generations back, that "we checked it out and it's legit,"does not actually
make it true.

PS: There is no bill pending before Congress that will allow long distance
companies to charge you for using the Internet.

Bottom Line... composing e-mail or posting something on the Net is as easy
as writing on the walls of a public rest room. Don't automatically believe
it until it's proven false...ASSUME it's false, unless there is proof that
it's true.

Now copy, paste, and send this to everyone you know or the program I just
put on your hard drive while you read this E-mail will open up your CD-ROM
and reach out and slap you upside the head. (Wake up America!)
