| As a professional photographer (not in pageant world in NC) Jillian Marie, Angel Studios (SC), The Boyd’s (GA.) Ashley has some things to learn about lighting, retouching and masking. Some of her photos are dark but can easily be fixed. Having a camera doesn’t make you a photographer but I do not get that impression from her. She has worked under Suzanne (I think was her name) who did beautiful photos for years. I think that Ashley will be amazing with more practice and she seems to be fully booked! | Just a reminder, photographers are people, just like contestants, and should not be bullied. Nobody should be bullied and lately this board has been full of bullying. Having your work “judged” particularly when someone hasn’t seen your finished product is slanderous and rude. Stop bullying people unless you want to sign your name so we all will know who you are. Contestants, Look on the photographers instagram/facebook pages and if you like their work, use them, if not, don’t. There’s enough business to go around. Many times, people ask for specific things and that might be what you consider overdone, but the one paying the tab gets to decide. | I would not go to Alexis for HMU or photos, too many horror stories with receipts to back them up. Karl has been an issue for years and I’m not surprised JoCo likes him with their history of questionable morals. Both are clearly posting in here trying to drum up some business. | Has anyone else noticed how obvious it is that Lenn Long is the one bashing all of these photographers? Not one mention of his horrible work in these comments trying to bring all these other great photographers down. All of them are way ahead of him in headshot photography. All of them treat their clients better. All of them edit better. I wouldn’t take him up on a free photoshoot. Certainly wouldn’t pay him for one. His jealousy is unreal. I’ve seen very similar comments made by him in people’s inboxes talking down on his competitors. He’s nowhere close to being competition for any of the people listed above. - Discussing someone's qualifications is not bullying. I suppose you just want to hold hands and sing kum ba ya while blowing sunshine and roses up everyone's ass? When folks charge as much as they do for headshots, it's reasonable to discuss who is good, who is not so good, etc. Or is this one of the aforementioned photographers who can't handle criticism of their work??? - Haha, very funny. I don’t consider most of the comments above constructive or honest. In fact, I don’t think trying to ruin someone’s business or “taking down” the competition is really even winning. But then, I realize that Karl is someone’s husband and grandfather, that Alexis is a single mother working hard to take care of her kids and that Ashley has been doing hair and makeup successfully for years and when Suzanne decided to close her business, Ashley took the natural next step and started her own. I think they are all talented photographers and photography is their livelihood. It’s almost like some people just like to antagonize and cause conflict with their “honest” comments. - I guess we all have different definitions of what "talented" means. This is just another example of the dumbing down of America. You people don't even know what good photography is. Hint: it ain't what you're promoting here. Most of these local yocal "photographers" are terrible. But do continue. And for those of you who act like photographing stage productions are nothing, there is a lot more skill required to deal with constantly changing lighting, movement on stage (especially dancers), etc. But again, this just shows that you don't have a clue what you're talking about. - And where did you get your photography trainingi? If all you do is put a few light sin place and hit a button, then nah. You're right. It's not complicated. But if you actually knew anything about photography, you would know about light and shadows, that there are very specific light patterns and when and why to use them and how to create them, how light ratios work, what depth of field is, when to use different lenses, etc. And you would also know how to create specific looks using your gear, not in AI retouching. No, it's not rocket science, but there is science behind it. Oh, and it takes some math knowledge too.
