Subject: Thank you for posting this Chief. I've spent far too much of my day reading and still haven't finished. This is so much fun. I loved reading about the real JAGs watching the pilot, and drinking shots when something wasn't realistic. They had to stop before the first commercial in case they passed out....LOL.Oh and did anyone notice the LOOKS trope? That was hilarious. (Inside)

When I first joined Maeve's, I was still doing my English grad studies and I couldn't help doing the same kind of critical analysis I did with the lit and drama I studied. So yes, I knew all about tropes, and was aware of them in JAG. In a way, it's easier to call them dramatic (or tv drama) cliches. Of course tropes can thinly disguise messages, opinions, and even propaganda, or become talking heads of the producers/creators/writers, etc. JAG was different from a lot of Hollywood fare as it's tropes usually favoured right of centre when virtually all the rest favour left of centre. I'm not giving a personal opinion here, just pointing out what we all know. Perhaps that's why it was rarely mentioned, or achknowledged. The tropes were all the wrong one.

Anyway, I loved JAG for all the fun it provided us, not to mention the eye candy for any sexual preference. And I was a sucker for the good guy hero stuff, even while I was aware that it was more Superman than realism. I can't wait to finish reading the article. It brings back so many memories. (Manette's first fanfic at the HBX was a witty short story using some of these cliches. I wish I could find it.)

LOL Overall, since JAG played most of the tropes straight (due to the nature of the show), there are few opportunities to actually bash JAG on tropes. -- The Chief, 00:11:33 03/06/14 Thu
