Starting a few days ago, there has been an ongoing discussion on the Entertainment Board, primariily about Bones. -- Cece, 17:28:06 07/13/14 Sun
The discussion inevitably moved to JAG and how it compared and contrasted with other shows of a similar nature. I posted my response, and I decided that I'd really like to post that response here on the main board. I hope that's okay with you all. I'm giving it a new title: What JAG meant to me. I'll post it as a response to thie post.

- oh heavens - I just came back from a trip to NY and helped Mary of all the numbers rearrange her furniture! - I met her through JAG and we're still friends ten years later and a thousand miles apart. Same can be said of Cher - met her at JAGfest in LA and we vacation together every year!   - I would hazzard a guess and say that the Star Trek franchise, has an enormous following that's been going on for years. I'm pretty sure that there were Trekkies and Trekkers way before the popularity of the internet. The Xphiles (followers of the X-Files), were a very busy internet group in the early days. - WOW. I've been away for far too long. I started watching JAG in 1995. I loved it from the very beginning, mostly because it was another way to look at my life. I was a new military wife at the time living in the most isolated post here and pregnant with my first child. It gave me comfort and the realisation that no matter what country, we all go through the same thing. Harm was and sstill is my favourite hero. Harm always did seem to help bring out Webb's finer angels.

I think this was Clay's last best moment, if not his best, as well as the last best moments between Harm and Clay.

Need to Know was definitely a stand-out in S8, and the parallels between Harm, Clay and their fathers, and their respective walls, combined with some really good acting by DJE and SC really knocked it out of the park. Well, I think so :-).

- You know, one of the things I hated most about Paragauy and all the crap that happened down there was that not only did it separate Harm and Mac...again....it ruined the friendship, however strained it could be, between Harm and Webb. - I'll agree with you, mkim, Webb is still the guy who went to Chechnya over Christmas to bring Sergei back. That he would play with Mac's guilt and Harm's jealousy in Paraguay, and then use Mac the way he did with the whole Tanveer thing was character assasination, and to me it was unnecessary. - Both good clips, and what we thought at the time was a fitting ending for Webb in the series.We were not to know! I was never a Webb fan, though I admit he provided comic relief in the first seasons. I grew to despise the character. I recall laughing at the Canada reference and how it upset some Canadians.     - I'm sure it must have been. It would also have been a deliberately ironic thing for Webb to say, as being sent to Canada, which is so much like the US, wouldn't be a hardship at all. Sail Back Saturday - Script vs Scene - Adrift -- Alicia, 01:05:10 07/13/14 Sun
One of my favorites is Adrift. The words come to me and you know the reason, definitely took on a new charged meaning.
Whether it was the intent or not, DJE's delivery of those lines definitely added another dimension to the scene.

Later, watching the episodes leading up to this one and the episodes after this one definitely helped form my view of the character of Mac. The scene in Harm's apt with Renee was also to me definitely not Renee's shining moment either.

It also felt like something was missing in the interactions, and there was more to it. The script was on ebay so I got it. There were many differences, and it filled in some holes. The differences in the scenes between H and M and H and R etc. etc., probably would have altered my view of the characters in the episode, and beyond.

When watching it, I thought given the circumstances Renee would have told Harm that they were engaged. Lo and behold, it was in the script.

From beginning to end, it was an interesting comparison on how the final result was formed.

It's funny..as an aside.. if you look at Harm's many head injuries throughout the show... he always seems to be cut in the same place...

- In the scrlpt it didnt seem to include how much pain Harm was in. That was the reason I liked Renee less in this scene. It irritated me that she didnt give him time to settle in, catch his breath. I am enjoying watching Harm all over again every night at 8 on INSP. Pilot Error was on the other night, thought I would post my favorite photo of Lt. Rabb in the cockpit of an F14. If I remember correctly this is one of the few episodes where Harm was seen in sunglasses.

  - I don't think it was just DPB, I think it was all of TPTB because the cameras didn't like the sunglasses. Notice they always wore glasses with flat lenses as opposed to curved. That way there was less chance of getting reflections in them. (NT) -- JJ Ronda, 07:35:08 07/13/14 Sun

- I watched most of the marathon. Thought I knew all of them by heart; however, I just don't remember seeing the ADM in peanut butters! One of my favorite characters is the CAG. One of the neatest things to me, in the show, is the dynamics of the relationship between Harm and the CAG, and how they evolved from the Pilot to the CAG's last appearance.

Today (Sunday) in the U.S. and some other countries as well, we celebrate Mother's Day. Because I am such a Harm & Mac shipper, in my fantasy world they did somehow have a child or children. And today they are somewhere together as a family having a wonderful Mother's Day celebration.

Happy Mother's Day to those of you who are mothers and grandmothers. And to our Harmyboarders who are not mothers, we honor your lives as truly special women. Thank you to everyone for being part of this community.

INSP just finished the Paraguay arc, with the infamous things will never work between us. INSP doesn't do the best editing jobs, and scenes are obviously cut. However, thanks to youtube and other avenues and purchasing dvds, I hopefully have all the scenes of the shows. Just wish I had the ones that were left on the cutting room floor.

No doubt watching a show over the course of 10 years, or as I have in a very short time provides different character perspectives and thoughts. Also I've had to go digging for various bits of backstory that would maybe have been known then, but not now.

It's unfortunate they didn't have a solid showrunner at the time to keep the continuity when DPB/NCIS, CB/Movie/Pregnancy, DJE/Contract/DPB by accounts all converged at the same time.

To me there were some good points in the arc. I don't know what the addition was, or not that he didn't look good before, but DJE was steaming hot in this arc.

I actually liked the fake marriage story.

Always good to see Gunny.

That was it for me. To me characters were not the characters. After episode of episode with AJ not leaving anyone behind, especially in the throws of Webbs game, that goes out the window. Am not sure why, but this point really bothered me. It also split the Webb Rabb dynamic for me, which to me is better than the Webb Mackenzie dynamic. Instead of better and stronger the characters were left broken.

It also is a bit surprising that the powers that be thought that plane crash, if contracts were not reupped, was a suitable end for the character of Harm. I wasn't aware of that the first time I had glanced through the scene, but knowing that watching it-- ick.

It's a shame because though the story and the character's involvement was far-fetched, it could have been a great arc, setting up so much for the next seasons. Actually with some tweaks to the story, Harm should have been in Webb's place..with both having to make difficult choices..and both dealing with the ramifications.. and a slam down of Harm's control issues.. Could have been powerful stuff... but I digress...

I am curious what others who still visit this board thought of Paraguay..
