Well the 49ers have been knocked out of the playoffs, but they did make progress this season by winning the NFC West and winning a game in the playoffs.

The big question is what do you think the 49ers have to do to advance to the Super Bowl?

First off I think the 49ers should draft the best player avaliable with their first round pick but they need to draft DE's and CB's with their next two or three picks. These positions are the weak links of the defense, but like I said in an earlier post, the 49ers are still a good defense when they are healthy. I don't know what the 49ers cap situation is, but they may also be able to address these positions through free agency.

Another question is what will happen with the coaching situation. There has been alot of pressure of Mariucci and Mora Jr., so there could be major changes there. Ray Rhodes resigned as defensive coordinator of the Broncos, even though they were a top 10 defense and Dennis Green removed his name from consideration from the Jacksonville job, so both these names are avaliable if changes are made, although I am in favor of keeping Mariucci around.

The final questions is whether the 49ers can get another player to make plays in the passing game besides T.O.
Tai Streets stepped up this year, but he also dissapeared at times too. JJ Stokes will be gone and Cedrick Wilson has not stepped up his play. Eric Johnson played well but he was hurt most of the season with a bad back. The 49ers should consider acquiring another WR in the draft or free agency.

This offseason is important because the NFC is getting tougher. The Rams will not have the same kind of season they had this year and the Cowboys with Bill Parcells could get better in a hurry. Those two teams along with the Eagles, Bucs, Packers, Falcons, Giants, and Saints will compete for playoff spots next year.
