Subject: A Giant Miracle for us.

Nothing could have stirred a 49er fan more than what they witnessed last Sunday, it was a true inspiration and a miracle that transpired right before our very eyes. Something magic happened along the San Francisco sideline that afternoon, something that stirred the inner regions of their emotions as this game seemed so out of reach and hopeless.
Coming out of a 24-point black hole the 49ers led under Jeff Garcia and Terrell Owens led like a Joe Montana and Jerry Rice combination from the past. The 49ers at that time were staring at a score on their scoreboard that read 38-14 and seemed so very out of reach. But what it did was awaken a champion attitude that seemed like the ghosts of all the San Francisco past that existed within the confines of 3Com-Park were a part of. Somehow someway the 49ers put together one successful drive after another with the 49er defense rising to the expectations that we all desired it to.
25 straight points were the order of the day in that second half, Kerry Collins and company in Amani Toomer and Jeremy Shockey had surgically dissected us in the first half. In fact we looked absolutely pathetic in trying to find ways to stop their passing onslaught of 327 total passing yards five scoring touchdowns. Veteran 49er cornerback Ahmed Plummer looked lost and bewildered in trying to curb Toomer’s receptions and scoring.
It was irritating to see him not look back to see where the ball was when he was next to Toomer and defending him. On the other hand Julian Peterson lived up to his name in neutralizing a very cocky individual in Jeremy Shockey whom in my opinion disrespected all of San Francisco with his rude antics and disrespectful mannerisms. Of all the Giants I wanted knocked out with legitimate reasons I would have to vote for him.
I am also proud of how the 49ers handled the incident following the Tai Streets touchdown that made the score 39-38. Giant’s strong safety Shaun Williams and Terrell Owens became involved in a shouting match that quickly rose out of control. Williams who threw a punch was ejected and Terrell Owens besides ranting and raving kept his cool because he had big Jeremy Newberry there to defend his honor. I am proud of Newberry for going in and defending a teammate that is so invaluable to this team, you couldn’t ask for a better companion in any given dispute.
One has to be happy as well at the play of the offensive line as it never allowed a sack to happen from sack masters Michael Strahan and Kenny Holmes. In fact Scott Gragg neutralized Strahan all day in this contest and provided Jeff the ability to make important plays in the second half. One has to be concerned with our secondary in allowing Collins to carve out such a commanding lead; we even allowed 119 total yards in rushing with Tiki Barber accounting for all but four of those yards.
What we did learn though was that Steve Mariucci is not “Joe Conservative” all of the time in fact he really tried to force and do some creative things wells throughout the game. One thing was for sure and that was to get the ball in our big money playmaker in Terrell Owens and that’s exactly what we did. I hope that the union between these two continues to blossom and grow on a daily basis, it honestly seems real now that Owens has ascended to the top as a leader on this team. He has made that happen by being more involved and putting restrictions on the media that have burned him far too often.
No one can dispute from now on that Jeff Garcia doesn’t fit the prototype that Joe Montana and Steve Young represent. He has the uncanny ability to comeback after being literally bombed out of the show to posting a victory over an opponent that thought all was well for their victory trip back to the Big Apple. We gave them something to bring back there a loss that proved that anything is possible in this league. Despite the bad officiating at the end of which I can sympathize with we earned this victory by pushing the Giant defense to the wayside when we had to the most.
Tampa Bay presents momentous problems for us from a defensive standpoint in knowing that the have one of the fastest units on the field in the league today. We need the same commitment we saw against the Giants except we need it while on the road. What make me sicker than I was in the first half of this game is the media labeling of cheating and that we do not deserve the next contest against the Buccaneers.
That is why winning this game will silence the so called critics and move the team out of that bracket to one that says we are for real folks. We stood on the brink of destruction folks only for a moment and reacted the way that any true champion does, and that was to go back out and fight as a collective unit.
