Hey, you owe me mail! ;-)

re: Jake Plummer

i don't see the 49'ers making a run at him.

you know how i feel about Jake, too. His potential and talent has just been shat down the outhouse in Arizona.

But I think the 49'er dream of Jake (started by Walsh) is all but over.

Why?

I expect several clubs to make a run at Jake for the STARTER's position -- clubs like Denver. 49'ers would never offer more than backup-plus-incentive money to Jake.

The Jake 49'er dream is over, methinks.

As to Brian Griese,

I hear lots of people on this site and others talk about Brian Griese.

Ummmmmmmmmm ...

if Shanahan, one of *THE* shrewdest evaluators of offensive talent in the NFL doesn't want Griese, why would we?

Griese has more weapons and a better offensive line than just about ANYBODY in the NFL, imho. That team is ***DEEP***. There is absolutely *NO* reason that it should be near .500 post Elway.

Well.

There is one reason.

Post Elway.

And Griese.

(make that two reasons)

Denver is loaded with talent, and has disappointed every year with Griese. If Garcia had that kind of talent, he'd be a happy man. (moreover, Shahanan has spoke very highly of Garcia on a number of occasions, so I suspect Shanahan would agree).

We need to upgrade the talent on offense, not waste time making QB switches.

And after devoting the last 3 drafts to defense, is anybody really that surprised that the offense is suffering?

We need some impact players on offense, particularly on the line, and receiving options.
