I think Garcia/49ers would lose 10-12 games without Owens, but TO would still have 90-100 receptions with Rattay, and the 49ers would be 8-8. That pretty much sums up my MVP analysis. This is Terrell's offense, not Garcia's.

I think the Mariucci stuff needs to be put to rest. TANK, you are arguing with a guy who thinks winning a Super Bowl isn't enough to prove Mariucci can coach. TIM, you are arguing with a guy convinced that Mariucci's offense is handicapped by lesser talent and injuries. I think the Niners win either way...if Mariucci is grabbed by another team (Detroit fired Vince Tobin yesterday, which suggests Matt Millen is safe for another year), then the 49ers get a much needed infusion of top, young talent via compensation; and, if Mariucci returns with an extension, then Donahue and Walsh will have concluded that there simply isn't anyone better for this team.

As I understand it, Paul Allen is appreciating the late season turn-around in Seattle, so Holmgren is safe as long as Hasselbeck continues to improve. If you haven't noticed, he is playing better than Jeff Garcia these past 5-6 weeks.

My big concern is the 49ers Red Zone offense. This unti has fallen apart in recent weeks. Tai Streets isn't an end zone presence. He has only 3 TD's all season. With Owens out last week, he couldn't muster anything. For all the love given Eric Johnson, he hasn't caught a TD all season, so his Red Zone effectiveness must be questioned. Lets face it, if it isn't Owens, it has to go to Garcia or one of our backs on the short field. They are the only go-to-guys.

The reason the Red Zone offense is important is because the field goal kicking sucks.
