What if I'm a snowstorm burning?
What if I'm a world unturning?
What if I'm an ocean, far too shallow
Much too deep?

Unaware that she was doing so, Kat kept her eyes trained on the shadowy face of the male. She was convinced that his resemblance to Paige was born out of her own mind, a combination of residual adrenaline, OxyContin, and the fact that she was in the very place she had met the man of her past. Even so, she could not help but be fascinated with the similarities, and found it hard to draw her gaze away...especially when he spoke.
She was visibly relieved when he did not press her to go to the hospital. She could not, under any circumstance, leave a trail. If she went to the hospital, they would ask too many questions she just couldn't answer...and then she would have to run again. Her last known location had been in Tulsa, and it was there she hoped her trail stopped cold. She watched as he withdrew his keys, and actually jumped as his panic alarm broke the night. God, her nerves were fried! She was never the type to jump at anything. Damn those assholes for cracking her, if even for a little bit! "Good.. She murmured, her naturally husky voice dropping to a little above a whisper with that single word. She lifted her gaze to him, the barest hint of a smile tweaking the edges of her lips. "It was a pretty clever idea. Thank you for trying."
Suspicion floated in her gaze as he mentioned a hotel room. Was this what she had expected? That he would want a favor from her? Surely he had to know that she was no where near capable of that at the moment, right? Though she supposed she did owe him...and it might even be enjoyable. She could close her eyes and think of Paige, of better times. Sick as that was, that thought was enough to make the idea seem less intimidating. If that's what he wanted...that's what she would do. And hell, maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to regain some control. At least SHE would be making the decision, instead of being forced. "If you're heading that way and don't consider me to be a bad luck charm, I'd appreciate the company. I don't think I could talk my way out of anything as quick and slick as you." And wasn't that the truth. With that key fob story, the guy was sly as a fox.

What if I'm the kindest demon?
Something you might not believe in
What if I'm a siren singing gentlemen
To sleep?
