The sound of a Russian Canary broke the silent night air as steam rose from the nearby stream showing just how cold the temperature had dropped in the past hour. Eerie eyes of ice-laced blue shifted towards where the sound had come her position in a nearby tree the rendezvous for her and Eric. An hour past with no other sounds when suddenly a hand slipped over her mouth, stifling the cry that would have formed as lithe frame was pressed against chiseled stone like muscle. “Эрик Вы дурак Вы желаете кастрироваться?” chide given asking if he wished to be castrated before blonde bobbed head turned to cast daggers in his direction. He had given her no words but the rare smirk he possessed before slipping back to the earth and stepping aside so she could do the same.

Once they were both situated on the frozen solid earth they made haste towards the boarder wishing to get back to their headquarters with the information they had gathered. They had been careful. None had followed them and any ties had been silenced, permanently. So it was with surprise that Cammie rounded the corner a quarter mile from Russia’s boarder to find a squad of twelve armed men waiting for them. Warning cry issued to Eric she made to flee in the opposite direction from him, only to feel hands clamp down on arms and pull her backwards disarming her pistol and knocking away the knife she pulled from behind her back soon after. Captured, but Eric had gotten away.

“You think we would be fooled by such a pretty body? That we could not see what you were really after?” Words in broken English spoken at a hiss against the shell of her ear, as a violent shake was performed, futile hope of release. Icy eyes turned towards the commander. “No. I thought you too pig headed and dick lead to know different.” Broken English think in accents from the motherland, though it was silenced by a backhand to the face, which drew blood from split lip. One second she was cussing and cursing the man for his actions and the next she was standing unrestrained while the men around her moaned from bullet wounds to the shoulder and one dead to the chest. Milliseconds ticked by and she moved to flee thanking the gods for Eric’s insistence on keeping back up weapons nearby, for it was this that saved her now as he provided cover fire for her escape once her own weapons had been retrieved. She reached the boarder line assuming Eric right behind her, but when she turned he was nowhere to be seen. Then in the distance she saw him, running with two behind him, guns drawn. She yelled for him to hurry only to watch in horror as he fell, a hole blown through his chest from the men behind.

“No!” The word breaking the nightmare’s hold, as sweat dripped into wide-open eyes for the thousandth time she could recall. It was just a dream, neigh nightmare. Eric had not fallen in Russia, which she knew of. They had been on American soil when their enemy had finally found them, she’d been captured and like in her dream Eric had saved her, but he had been taken and no matter how often she tried no news had been gathered on what had become of him. He could be alive and tortured or perhaps far better a fate, dead and rotting in some unknown grave. Whichever the case she knew naught and it was a fate that plagued her nightly.

The nightmares were just one of the reasons she had turned in her papers and ties to the agency and government she had called home for nearly fifteen years. Her knowledge that their mission had been leaked by another entity was hushed. As known within her government would admit that supernatural entities existed. So she had taken up the cause herself. Hardened human spy and seductress, turned vampire and other fowl beast hunter. The tools she had been given as a mere human had honed her to combat even the most seasoned creature of the night, though it often came with a price. Scars from bullets and knifes, soon gave way to fang like marks on one shoulder and a wolf gasp on left ribcage.

And yet, she feared not death. She had but one mission, to destroy the being that had cost her mission and the very life of her partner. She would not rest till this was done, for it was her final mission in life and one she would not die for till completed. Glancing into the rear view mirror of the Marussia. Ignition was turned and the sleek purple sports car pulled away from the rest stop she had stopped at to rest. The sign she passed two hours later read “Now Entering Cascade City” and with those words the memories came back. The brief moments of laughter, the passion for their country, the hurt of betrayal often faced, and last but not least the fire. The burning fire that had engulfed them whenever time had given them a moment’s breath. She was not a believer of love at sight or ever, but there was no denying her body had yearned for Eric and his for her. They had been unpalatable; a tangled mess of flesh and bone in bed, that often left them out of breath but only wanting more.

Knuckles turned white as the grip on the steering wheel tightened and a breath dispelled, the sleek machine pulled into the half full parking lot of the old neon club. She had to admit she was surprised to see it still open, it had been rather dead the last time she’d been her. Memories were locked away as the engine was killed and sleek form stepped out from the driver’s door. Locking the vehicle and pocketing the key a quick glance was given the area, noting escape routes and the fastest way back to the highway if she needed to leave town. Mental notes taken she pushed through the heavy door, noting it was heavier than before, and made her way towards the bar.

Though feet from the location she paused, blue eyes glancing out from behind raven straight hair, a dye job to hide her true coloring of platinum blonde. “Нет никакого пути.” The disbelief voiced in soft voice, breaking under emotion she did not realize had surfaced. Turning from her original path, steps were taken to move towards a tabletop not far from the bar but enough so as to be out of earshot. Not that it mattered, she could read lips and from where she sat a clear shot of the two sitting before her. Already pale flesh blanched to a near snow white, for before her stood a ghost. Her partner of old, the man she thought dead, Eric Malcovosk, or Reitz, depending on whom you asked. The brunette bartender came up and took her order, vodka straight, before slipping away without another word.

It's a devil's disguise

Angel in black

I don't know if I want you back

You're the cool nights of the desert

And the hot kisses of the sun

Why is it that I don't believe you

When you say I'm the only one

I know I'm the lonely one

It's a devil's disguise

Angel in black

And I recognize the shadows from your past

It's a devil's disguise

Angel in black
