Melissa...I am assuming by your post that Healthy Scully is a rarity? Because THAT was one of the main things I enjoyed about this episode. And the clever visuals and the GOOD use of ambiguity...was Burt GOD? the DEVIL? FATE? An Angel? A guy that simply understood the pattern?

Some things bothered me...like the Karmic Numbers thing...14?, 16?, 10??? The Karmic Numbers are 7, 11, 13 and 22! I would think even a child would know that as they reference Numerology as a "child's game"...which I also kind of doubt...I mean kids do it...but mostly it is PRACTICED by adults I think. And the killer is a 4 or 6...both stable numbers...he is much more likely to be a 5, sponsor of chaos. It was however, nice to see a reference to the "Hitchhiker's Guide" theory of Life, the Universe and Everything...because we all know the answer is at Mulder's door : 42 (or PART of the answer anyway).

Also, liked the back up we got for Scully growth being a BIG part of the XF picture, with that "9" call of Reyes(kudos to KM for pointing this angle out for me) and a small nod to CC for the dig at people who don't see a pattern claiming there ISN'T one...I felt the sting but then I recovered...because for all of this eppy's creativity it too was derivitive...refering back to the Goldberg Variation...was it the same writer? I missed the credits...but I figure it was far too visually clever to be CC.

Still and all...enjoyable...creepy and ambiguous in the right places...though I did immediately notice that JD's "6" was an upside down "9"...and I notice JD did get to do a John Wayne rescue of the Girls...but OKAY with it because Scully got her gun out, spotted the bad guy, caught the ring clue and shot the offending door("I have a gun"). I didn't get the pinball feeling until the end...but I did notice the wonderous tango-like moves of Reyes in the hallway and the lining up of the people as playing pieces...patterns forming. I imagine the song fits in better if we know what the words mean...but I think overall it was saying that the Music of the universe was playing through these people and events...patterns forming...God doesn't play dice but he may play Music.
