Pain twisted about his heart like a serpent, deathly cold and poised to deliver a fatal strike. Responsibility had always weighed heavily on the young stallion, even as a young colt caring for his two baby sisters. And now a mare's destiny lay entwined with a decision he had to make. Frustration at his uncertainty rose within him, causing him to stamp almost angrily at the sands. His movements were halted as Echo awoke, his muscles frozen in shock. Heart racing, he stared at her with wide eyes. -Are you alright?- he asked tentatively, his handsome features distorted in an expression of fear. Sucking in a quavering breath, he cast a quick glance at Death, gauging her reaction to Echo's sudden recovery. He had expected to be relieved upon her awakening but her spooked expression unnerved him, as did the nagging feeling that something dangerous lurked nearby.
