...one thought is left in her mind as a last stab of pain looms over her, ready to take her life in an instant. Must...not...give up! her brain screamed. In a last effort to save herself, she strained against the evil bonds of the disease, summoning all the strength in her body, all the energy she had left. Gathering all life left in her, she threw herself into a last desperate leap into the air, pouring all life left into a last hurrah, lauching herself up, up, UP! into a rear. Eyes burning with a fierce, heroic battle fury, she poured herself into holding herself in the precarious position that once had been so effortless. One last time, her golden trumpets rang, clear and proud, echoing on the winds, in a defiant challenge to the malignant plague. Time seemed frozen, each heartbeat eons apart. Fighting wildly she thrashed in the air, forelegs churning the atomosphere in a passionate whirl, hindquarters shivering violently with the effort of holding herself aloft. Teetering on a knife edge, she forces the disease back, back, back! She would conquer it or die trying.

Seconds...pass...ages...apart...grappling with an invisible opponent, still she holds her ground, tearing, rending the air with rapidly lashing pinions, moving at the speed of light...and yet...it all seems so slow. Eternity passes as she battles the formidable enemy, fighting in the age-old war: good against evil, light against dark.
In her last few seconds she is a goddess, dark pools afire with burning passion to survive, raven tresses whirling and twisting, twirling and leaping, snapping and swirling on her proudly arched, finely muscled crest like midnight rivers thundering gracefully on a ruby riverbed. Ebonite talons slice through the air in lethal, deadly strokes, beating back the enemy, hammering the cold acid from her being. Banner whips and flows about her muscled hindquarters, a long, thick mass of silken sable strands. Sun burns fiercely on her scarlet hide, tendons rippling and stretching 'neath the crimson coat. The once-wilted star 'pon her forehead flames bright once again, a searing gem burning twixt even fierier dark pools. Nostrils flare huge in the tiny, perfectly shapen muzzle of dusken velvet, each breath coming hard and centuries apart. The vile disease flickers inside her, but how much longer can she last? how much more can she take? Each defiant action sends a burst of cold, piercing fire scorching through her.
And then...the acidic aching, the malignant eating of her body explodes into an electrifying burst of agony. A moment of nothingness...and the frozen acidic burning seems to crumble and fall away, leaving her stronger and more beautiful than ever before. Triumphant, ecstatic in her victory, her face alights in joy...

And she falls to the ground, unconscious at last. She had beaten the enemy...but would she live after all?
