Liquid pools widen almost imperceptibly, his opponent's answers leaving a very slim chance that the chaos at hand could be solved with no more bloodshed. The fragile ray of hope, having been clung to for so long, virtually disentigrated, leaving the chocolate-hued stallion with a hollow, dead feeling where his heart pulsed. He had overestimated his enemies, almost as deadly a mistake as underestimating one. He had counted on reason and cold, hard logic to bring about a peaceful resolution. But both sides had stubbornly dug in their heels and staunchly refused to back down. While the solid bay kept up his cool facade on the outside, inside a feeling bordering on despair wrapped icy tentacles around his gut. Many moments of silence had passed before the bay could bring himself to speak, fighting with every word he spoke to keep his voice even and as confident as ever.

"None of us, no matter our station or position in life, are untouchable. Despite the airs that we put on or the other, meaningless titles that we bestow upon ourselves, at the core, we are all the same. I would be a great failure to the Lights if I had mislead them about my own mortality, my own fallibility, my own humanity, if you will pardon the phrase."

A slight smile twitched at the corners of his supple mouth at his own wording. His expression grew somber again as he resumed speech.

"As for short-sightedness, I heartily believe that both of us suffer from that incurable disease. 'Tis another aspect of being less than Divine. But if what you say is true, and the Evils have been pining for a war for many years, then there is no use in trying to bargain for peace. Fighting for the sake of fighting... pure and simple bloodlust and the need to cause senseless pain and suffering. Not only my people will suffer from this Adrian. Your side will take losses and injuries as well."

The ebon-kissed stud mastered his thoughts for one final stab at logic.

"Would you not teach your offspring to not walk off a cliff? However much your progeny wanted to step off into the sheer nothingness and be swept away by gravity, your parental instincts would not allow you to let them do that. The Evils have wanted battle with the Lights for ages. Can you not see the parallel? What they want, no matter how badly they want it, can possibly hurt them. Would it not be better to stop the madness and return to some semblance of normalcy? To return to life before anger and violence extinguishes the very last traces from these lands?"

Taking a deep breath, the arab attempted to calm his racing heart and slow his labored breathing. His final argument had become more vehement than he had intended, poured more of his soul out into the open to be examined and picked over. Would his logic have any bearing on the Evil King? Or would the final test be purely physical?
