Subject: Boerboels Kill a Raccoon

Azaan (Power's Legendary Azaan, just under 3 years) and Jaf (Quo Vadis Barracuda, 16 Months) fought and killed a raccoon in the woods today.

Before I knew it, they jumped off the trail after something. I didn't know what it was since they were behind some trees, but I was pretty sure it was either a raccoon, groundhog or fox. I wasn't sure what to do, but I knew it wasn't smart to try to get in between 2 Boerboels and a potentially rabid wild animal that was fighting for its life.

The blood-curdling snarls almost did me in. Coons have a lot of fight in them, but so do Boerboels! Azaan is in the middle of her 3-year rabies booster, but Jaf only got a 1 year shot soon after he got here from South Africa last September. He is due for his 3-year booster. I wanted to try to stop the fight, but there was really nothing I could do that wouldn't put me in danger.

I filmed the very ending of this encounter. Neither dog got hurt. Before I purchased my first Boerboel, I told the breeder I was looking for a dog that wouldn't be afraid to tackle the wildlife on my property. These two have what it takes! Needless to say, the dogs have done a great job of eradicating the wildlife on my property and near my house. I always have the camera with me when I go hiking, so I was able to film the tail end of this encounter.
