Subject: Selective memmories...where did the boerboel come from?

Let's not forget that

1. all dogs are the same species

2. breeds are defined by traits (physical & behavior)

3. All "breeds" are essentially "families" or "lines," with the traits being even more defined within specific lines or programs.

4. All good working breeds were created by selecting on traits...and outcrossing was done to establish such.

5. If outcrossing is a tool that can be good enough to create the best breeds, then it certainly is good enough to help maintain the best breeds.

6. Outcrossing is just that...a tool/process. Nothing more, nothing less. How well or poorly it is used is up to the breeder...and the same is true for line breeding or inbreeding. There is nothing "holy" about any breeding method. It is all about the breeder...their knowledge and dedication.

7. The boerboel hasn't been around for ever. And, I certainly believe "blue boerboels" are more of a bandog (recent outcross) than a pure "old line." This would include blue brindles, such as Gordo (who was bred by David).

Now...what does all this mean...well, it means, to get a good boerboel you have to deal with someone that has good dogs and has had them for a while...and who works them...and who has produced them.

It is all about the traits. It isn't about "my way" or "your way." It isn't about this way or that way. It is about the traits. Nothing more, nothing less.

A working breed is defined by its traits. That is how they were created. Let's not forget the history of every breed. If it worked then, it works now...it just has to be done right.

The only true "breeds" would be the wolf or coyote. Everything thing else is a product of artificial selection for desired traits.
