Frank,

>>At 2000 rpm, about 4.4knts, my rudder goes 40 odd degrees to port in about 4 seconds.<<
Is this with no tiller restraint at all? If so, the important point is, what is the pressure needed to resist this swing and what degree of tiller needed to correct it? I must admit I do not think a T500 is docile enough in any conditions, sail or power, to expect hands-off course holding for more than a second or two. It is why I have fitted a line across the cockpit well and a tiller clamp to it when I need to go forward single handing. This was a great success this year.

I had to google to find out what a Davis Tiller Tamer was. It is a similar principle to my clamp but with variable friction to your tiller movement - it will need frequent adjustment and almost complete release when sailing. Where do you propose mounting it on the tiller curve and leading the lines aft? Because with the lines presumably it should be on a horizontal section.

>>With the engine off, no sails set, it does not move<<
The rudder or the boat? :-)

Best,

Brian.
