How soon will the team match format be abandoned (controversial!)

Skating's governing body will unveil its new judging system this week in the most radical change in figure skating history.

The International Skating Union's new "Code of Points" system will replace the traditional "6.0" format for the first time in international competition.

Under the new system, each element - a jump, a spin or footwork - is assigned a set number of points.

Depending on how well a skater executes a particular element, that number may increase or decrease.

At the end of the skater's programme, the totals of all the elements will be added together and one score will be displayed.

Fourteen judges will make up the panel, but only the scores of nine of those judges, chosen at random by computer and anonymous, will count towards the final score.

Of those nine, the two highest and two lowest scores for each element will be thrown out.
