I agree. Despite various calls for names to be named, so far the only people to do so have been me (defending people) and Robin (in the case of Florent Trarieux, hardly condemning him). Unless people are prepared to speak up, I will assume that all of this fuss comes from only one or two whinging Cambridge dancers, and a few people who don't like being told they should have danced up (despite making top three in A team matches). Frankly, I have no sympathy for the former, and even less for the latter group. And it hardly constitutes a quorum of discontent.
Cambridge's suggestion is totally flawed in principle and unworkable in practise. Robin and Chenyi's counter-proposal would be difficult in practise, and is far too sensitive to good couples being missed in first rounds, making it likely to compound the problem. The best solution, I think, is still to leave it exactly as it is.
Incidientally, for anyone interested, this year there were:
In ballroom 43 Novice couples, 57 Intermediate couples and 18 Advanced couples.
In latin 52 Novice couples, 59 Intermediate couples and 25 advanced couples.
In my opinion, those are not unreasonable ratios.
