Wow!! Your post could have been written by any adult here!
Some of the things you wrote were straight from my thoughts when I first began this journey. Let me explain...
>Yeaaaaa so I'm getting braces.Im 16 right now and I'll be 17 on the 20th.
Subsitute that with "I'm 33 and getting braces! Yikes!"
>So yea I hate this!
Ditto for me!
>I actually remember the day they told me I needed braces(first time), I don't remember my age, maybe around 9 or 10?
>I dont know exactly. All I know is that I started to
>get teary eyed in the office and when I got home I
>knew I was NOT going to get braces.
I remember the exact day..I told the oral surgeon "But I'm too OLD for braces". I didn't get teary eyed in the office, but I felt a cold chill come over me and I felt my heart pounding. (Note that "old" means different things to different people!! LOL)
> DEVASTATING!
This is the feeling I felt when I looked in a mirror, fully braced, for the first time.
>then I get to the car and start bawling.
Oh, yeah! Did that too after the bottoms when on!!
>>I originally planned to go into hiding, but then I
>realized I have work,
Work (in a professional office) for me involves talking on the phone and in person to customers, as well as all the training of new employees. As much as you worry what your classmates will say or think, I worried what my cutomers might say. Social situations are tricky at any age: Prom, dating, friends, public presentations for work, graduation, weddings, etc.
>my life changes FOREVER and I get braces.
We are all going through a life changing event, even if some of us have already lived more life than others.
>Yea so I do regret not getting them earlier, but I
>still feel like I don't want them! I need them, but I
>dont want them!
I also should have gotten braces when I was much younger, but as a 30-something I suspect I have felt the same things that I would have felt if I had gotten them as a teen, just different situations.
I don't want you to feel like I am making light of your situation (the thought of braces during junior high or high school makes me cringe), but I wanted to show you that your feelings are not unique to your age. That is why I think the teens here on this board are welcomed; we all have something in common, regardless of our age.
And yes, this does sometimes suck, but you'll be glad you did it in the end. There is a saying "same stuff, different day". Or is it "same stuff, different age"?
Best of luck to you!
Hannah :-)
