Although Erlic should have been pleased with Ravin’s change of demeanor, he could only smile at his friend, nod, and walk away. There was still the matter of Eremis being held captive, and that thought disturbed him greatly. The youth knew too much, and could put the lives of many in jeopardy. For now, he could only return to the tasks at hand; the journey toward the ruined city, and watching out for further attacks from the Slayers.

The group moved slowly through the night, and Erlic kept himself in the rear of the group, constantly looking around for any signs of threat that would put them in further danger. The past day had held enough danger, and he hoped nothing of such magnitude would bother them for a long while.

Eventually they entered the city, and he was surprised at how ransacked, and in ruins the city actually was. From what he could gather, it seemed that the city of Twilight was once a magnificent site to behold. Now it was in ruins. The guild master often wondered the how’s, and why’s of certain circumstances, furthering his aloofness, but as soon as they entered the city, those thoughts quickly faded away, as a defensive mechanism took affect.

Erlic immediately had his sword out when he spotted the eerie set of eyes glancing at them. “What the hell was that?” was the only comment the merc would make, and a surprising one since mercs usually weren’t afraid of anything. Perhaps Justin wasn’t as brave as he pretended to be.

That’s when Tia’s scream alerted him, as well as the others, as they ran toward the wall that now held Tia captive, slowly pulling her into its depth, little by little. Ravin had managed to throw a dagger, and surprisingly enough, the dagger didn’t bounce off, what should have been a brick exterior. The Jann explained that the wall was indeed alive, and from their looks, Tia was indeed being drawn further into it. Rowan had rushed to help, while Laurel rained arrows upon it.

He was about to join them when something moved in, and out of his peripheral vision. Without thinking the guild master dove to the ground into a role, the swish of a sword almost grazing his neck. He was quickly standing as he faced a small group of bald headed individuals, probably the Sharm, armed with weapons.

The guild master smiled at his adversary. He was in his own habitat, a ninja in the deepest of nights facing his prey, although the Sharm probably thought that he was their prey. Erlic moved slowly as both fists came together, forming the mantra of the Ninja. Once finished, he was ready for them, and anything else that might attack.

He gazed into their eyes steadfastly, smiling ever so slightly, trying to force them into the first attack. As planned they rushed him together. With blinding speed he ducked, and appeared in the middle of the three, kicking one away, punching out the second, and lashing out at the third, all at the same time. This time they stalked him a bit more carefully. They had now surrounded him, and were decreasing the size of the ring around him. Before anyone had a chance to think, Erlic jumped at one, while at the same time swinging his leg around as it connected the face of the Sharm, sending him backwards toward a wall. The guild master had gone into a roll, and was already preparing his next attack, blocking the sword attack with one arm, while grabbing the Sharm’s sword hand with his other, twisting until the Sharm’s own sword went through him. As soon as the blade penetrated his opponent’s skin, Erlic was off, and into another role, as he turned to see the third approaching him, while the first was just getting to his feet.

The Sharm attacked him, and as its sword swooped down, Erlic caught the man’s arm, and held it, staring intently into his adversary’s eyes. The shifting of the Sharm’s eyes notified him that the other was about to attack him as well. He turned quickly, using the Sharm’s own sword to kill the other. Once the sword was imbedded into the other Sharm, Erlic let go of the man’s arm, grabbed his neck, and twisted it violently until he heard the tell tale snap of a broken neck. He quickly stooped into a crouch turning around quickly to investigate the area. A shifting of shadows informed him that there were two more out there somewhere, and since they had witnessed the fight, were probably going to take their time before advancing toward him. One Sharm wasn’t dead yet, and Erlic looked at him in amazement. Perhaps these Sharm were priests that were able to heal themselves.

The Sharm was mouthing some words, and Erlic quickly grabbed the nearest rock, and flung it at the man, hitting him in the forehead. Not enough to wound him, but enough to knock his concentration off from the possible spell he might be muttering. By that time Erlic was on top of the man swinging his sword viciously. The Sharm defended, and attacked back with surprising strength, somewhat stunning the guild master. He placed some distance between himself, and his adversary, before commencing another attack. Before the man was quite normal, and yet now, he seemed as strong as three men.

The Sharm attacked, and Erlic parried with the sword, and kicked out into the man’s groin sending him backwards. This time Erlic jumped forward, spun, and connected with his heel into the man’s face. He then crouched, swinging his other leg, kicking the Sharm’s out from under him. Before the man had a chance to think, Erlic’s sword penetrated the man’s heart, ending his life.

The guild master looked around for further signs of trouble.

“Hey Barry,” Corum stated. “Check out the weird thing with the weird eyes.” He had spotted the whatever it was, and was wondering what it could be before his attention was drawn to Tia’s scream. “It’s like time to get ready.”

He was just about to go and help when a loud growl stopped him in his tracks. He slowly turned to face a seven-foot tall creature, fully covered in hair, with only a set of glowing eyes sticking out of its head.

“Hold on Hairy!” Corum yelled as he held up the palm of his hand. “Do you have any idea who you’re messin with? Any? I mean, do you?” When the creature stood its ground looking, if something like that could even look, somewhat confused, Corum continued. “I’ll have you know you’re dealing with ME, Corum, the “It’s clobberin time” fool, not to mention my sidekick here, Yorik. AND….if that isn’t enough, I’d like to introduce to you, the one, the only, never to be seen but soon to be forgotten…..” Corum stopped and thought about that for a second before continuing. “Seen, and always heard, the incredible, the infamous, the most stupendous Barry, ‘the Heaver’, Basher.”

Yeah, what he said, you sniveling, trembling, pathetic fool.

Well the creature obviously wasn’t aware of their infamous past, and started to lumber forward, in a quite, and most scarily way, I might add, toward the skull wielding youth.

It’s time ladies, and gentlemen. Number 39, with an ERA of .369, 54 home runs, 34 runs batted in, Corum Talen. He spits at the side of the mound, digs his feet into the ground, and stares at the pitcher. Here’s the windup, the throw…….

Corum shifted to his side as the creature lumbered toward him, grabbed Yorik with all of his might, and swung hard as Yorik connected into the creature’s stomach. AGGGGGGHHHHHHHH! Was all it had to say. Corum decided to kick him in the knee caps just for good measure, thus provoking another loud AGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

“HAH!” Corum shouted. “Though you had me did you? Faked you out ya little twirp.”

The creature finally straightened itself out, as it came forward trying to grab at Corum. “Not so fast smiley,” Corum stated as he shoved Yorik’s head into the creature’s gut again. This time, however, Corum turned again, and shoved the skull into the creature’s kneecaps. Suddenly the creature smiled, and Corum thought that was rather odd, until he heard a grunting sound coming behind him. Slowly he turned, and stared at another of the creatures. “You must be ugly’s brother, or sister, or whatever. Well, you’re obviously too dumb to understand who you’re dealing with so I’ll guess I’ll have to teach you as well.”

You know what one shepherd said to the other? Let’s make like the sheep, and get the flock outta here!

Corum didn’t need any prodding as he quickly stepped out of the way just as two large, and quite hairy arms tried to grab him.

And in this corner, weighing in at 3.5 pounds, the skull-weight champion of the world….the one, the only, BARRY……’THE HEAVER’…….BASHER!

And that’s when it started to rain mosquitoes on the second monster, creature, whatever it was. Soon it was swatting away at whatever it was that was trying to bite it. It must have had good blood, or the mosquitoes were quite hungry, or possibly both, but it started to swing, swat, and smack, everything imaginable at itself. Corum like the beat, and was almost considering doing a little jig, when Barry suddenly cautioned him.

Incoming……Incoming………Three o’clock

“YIKES!” Corum yelled as he moved out of the way. He was on his feet in moments, smashing Yorik into the thing’s stomach, liver, kidneys, and, above all, kneecaps. Another resounding growl was uttered by the creature that obviously didn’t like what was happening. The big creature was ready to take another swipe at him, and Corum spotted it just in time, as he sped out of the way just in time, tripping over a loose rock. He was amazed to see a pair of feet on the ground, and suddenly wondered if they were his. Nonsense, he thought. Couldn’t be because they were wearing sandals, and that simply wasn’t his style. He followed the feet to the legs, which eventually led to a body, and a hairless person. “Damn, a SHA…..” as the lights went out from the second Sharm that knocked him out from behind. The two men that had been hiding behind a partial wall had been watching the incident. They immediately grabbed the youth, and dragged him away to the West Towers unseen by any, leaving Yorik behind where Corum had dropped him.

*************

Valhorek had quickly drawn his weapon when he heard Tia’s cry for help. Before he could go and help, another sound came from a different direction. He spotted Corum battling with a tall, hairy creature, and another one approaching from the opposite direction. The healer swung his broadsword viciously, angering the creature further. It looked around and found a large club, which it used to try, and swipe at the healer, while also trying to avoid the multitude of mosquito bites that continued to plague it.

The creature took a good swing at Valhorek who managed to put up his sword at the last minute, deflecting the blow. The healer was thrown back a bit, but regained his balance. The hairy monster continued to lumber forward in a threatening manner. Val made sure that there was nothing around him to impede him. He held his ground for a moment before the creature prepared to swing at him, and at the last minute ducked out of the way, swinging his sword at the creatures leg, causing a deep gash, and an earth shaking howl of pain.

Val regained his balance, and took the time to swing at the creature, stabbing it from behind, directly into its kidneys. It howled, and started to swing in all directions, careless of whether it hit enemy or not. Val had to get out of the way to avoid getting a concussion from the club that nearly grazed his head. He quickly moved in for another attack since the creature was angry, and stabbed hard into the creature’s spine. It suddenly fell down onto its face. The healer made sure he ended its life.

There was however, the other creature to attend to as it started to growl viciously realizing that its partner was now dead. Valhorek readied himself for the attack.
