Subject: But it really isn't

Nobody gets that offer. I didn't. I just got born and then raised. A combination of genetics and environment that I was rarely asked about until I was pretty well formed. I continue to find out about my abilities and even disabilities that my genetics have left me with.

So from an ontological perspective, I don't see how its different for the potentials. They had strength before, speed before, agility before, reflexes, reaction time, healing time, resourcefulness. They had all these things already to a greater or more likely lesser degree. They may or may not have been aware of their abilities previously. The only arguably new thing they face is prophetic dreams, which some evidence suggests they already may have had exposure to.

Buffy has changed what it is to be a slayer, so none of the new slayers have anything like her experience of this transition. the battle is different, the institutions governing it are different, the rules are different, the isolation is different.

I never understood the Spiderman thing. Great line, but he had great responsibility anyway. That's what I get from Buffy at any rate. Being weak doesn't mean he gets to beat up kids and steal things and cuss at his mom. You have great responsibility simply because you are. Your physical condition doesn't seem to be particularly relevant to that.
