Subject: Guys....?

I'm not gonna be gone this holiday, but there was a tragedy in my family, and I wanted to share it. I won't share as much as happened unless people ask it, but I'll share enough. It wasn't my human family, it was my animal family.

Yesterday (Monday) our neighbor's dogs (one of them a pit bull) got loose from the pile of crap that our neighbors call their pen and broke through our fence and killed one of our miniature horses. It....I...I wasn't there, but I saw the aftermath, all the blood, and her little body. And I think, if people would only lock up their dogs securely, this wouldn't happen. Apparently, the dogs had killed livestock before and the owners were told to destroy them. Well, this time my mother called animal control and the sheriff and the dogs were taken away and destroyed.

But I don't blame the dogs. We have a bulldog, and it's in her nature to go for the nose of an animal as well. But we keep her inside or if she goes outside she is ALWAYS on-leash. You NEVER let an animal that you KNOW shows tendencies toward behavior like that around livestock loose. And you do not keep large powerful dogs in shoddy, throw together enclosures made of wood and chickenwire. You just don't. I don't blame the dogs. I blame the irresponsible owners. And if it hadn't been our horse, it could have been someone's child. There were little children playing on the road that day. But we're still grieiving. It's one of those things that just shouldn't happen, she was so sweet, she never did anything to anybody. If those people had been responsible, no animals would be dead tonight as I type this. I'm also writing to the newspapers, and an officer came out and took pictures of everything (including the "kennel") to give to the DA, we're not letting this slide. Those people will pay for the carelessness that cost our horse her life.

But they are, and I still cry when I think about it. I just thought I'd let y'all know that my activity may drop, I'm not sure. And I just needed to get my grief out there.
