The new and much-hyped "Dallas" TV series premiered on Wednesday evening on TNT. Did you watch? If so, what did you think? Will you continue to watch? Were you a fan of the original series?

Replies:

[> Yes I did watch and I was a fan of the original show. I'll probably watch some more. I spent a lot of time trying to give the back story to my daughter as she said she felt she was missing something since she's never seen the original. -- Ciara, 08:49:10 06/14/12 Thu [1]

[> I'll get back to you because I taped it and will watch it today. I'm trying to finish up "The Hatfields and the McCoys" which I LOVE!! -- jenks, 09:02:38 06/14/12 Thu [1]

[> [> [> I'm so glad this finally made it to the viewing audience. The cast was so good and the story excellent. To think this deadly feud began over a stolen pig...what a pity on the loss of life to these two families. -- jenks, 18:21:11 06/14/12 Thu [1]

[> I started watching the original mainly because everyone at work was watching and I didn't like being out of the loop. I think that the new series has potential - just wish that they weren't making JR all bad and Bobby all good. -- Wolfeylady, 12:51:11 06/14/12 Thu [1]

[> I watched the original and I watched last night. I don't remember what happened to Pam, Bobby's first wife. Maybe I missed that part. There's more deception and blackmail in this than I remember in the original, but I suppose that I'll tune in again to see what happens. -- Lee, 17:14:41 06/14/12 Thu [1]

[> I was only going to watch for awhile, but then the producers kept the familiar theme song and when I heard that, I was hooked. Yes, I was an avid fan of the original until late seasons when they jumped the shark and I have visited the ranch during my treks to Texas. Inside. . . .I'll go over. -- Araninda, 19:11:42 06/14/12 Thu [1]

I missed Miss Ellie and it is sad that Barbara Bel Geddes has passed away. But I am glad they didn't bring in a new "Miss Ellie" as they did with Donna Reed for one season during the original series. It just wouldn't have been the same.

Bobby's wife evidently is supposed to fill a matriarch role. That's fine but hopefully they will add more spice to her character, otherwise she is going to be very boring. I did love her shotgun scene though!

I hope we see more of Ray Krebs and find out what he is doing now. And he and Jenna had a son, Lucas I think, who would be a Ewing since Ray was Jock's son even though he probably calls himself Krebs. And wasn't there some question as to whether or not Lucas was Ray's son or Bobby's? That would be an interesting new character.

Charlene Tilton looked awful. She has not aged well at all. She looked older than JR. If Lucy returns again, they need to try more makeup and some Botox and a crash diet.

I miss Cliff Barnes. I understand Ken Kercheval is scheduled to reprise his role as Cliff in some upcoming episodes. That will be fun because the best fighting in the original series was Cliff and JR. Which, IMO, is the element that is really missing, at least so far, in this new series -- the next generation of Ewings and Barnes fighting it out.

In one of the Dallas movies after the original series, Afton (Cliff's long-time girlfriend) had a daughter and the implication in the movie was that Cliff was her father. So is this who Rebecca in the new series is supposed to be? Rebecca was Cliff's mother's name but I can't remember what Afton named her daughter. But then it doesn't fit if Tommy is really her brother.

If Cliff's daughter isn't Christopher's new wife, then I think she needs to appear in the series to add the next generation of the Ewing - Barnes feud. I don't want to just see John Ross and Christopher fighting it out episode after episode.

Another thing I missed from the original series was the beautiful clothing, particularly the evening gowns, that the ladies wore. It was disappointing that the Cattleman's Ball was not formal. Maybe they will have the traditional Oil Barons Ball which is when everyone was really dressed up.

John Ross should have ended up in the swimming pool when Christopher confronted him at the wedding. That was almost a staple of the original series -- a fight on the front lawn during a family celebration and the antagonist going into the pool.

Several comments I have read today are women who watched the show with a daughter and explained to them the background. I can understand where people who didn't watch or were too young to watch the original series may have been a little lost at times in this new show. Ratings were very good, and it was the highest rated show last evening among both cable and major networks. But young viewers didn't tune in as much as hoped.

Yes, I'm hooked in a way that I haven't been for any show since JAG.

[> Didnt see it but I got tired of the orignal one and stopped after the dream season. I still laugh at it and it was a great tool. I also still love who shot JR as the orignal cliff hanger. So far no one has really beat it. -- DOS, 09:19:17 06/15/12 Fri [1]

[> [> hey don't knock that dream sequence - I wrote a JAG story - didn't know whot to end it and remembered the dream sequence in dallas and thought- why not - Also the tv show is the reason I live in Dallas now- otherwise i would have driven straight through!! [> I didn't watch the original show so I didn't bother to watch the new one! I really don't care for shows that you have to follow the plot from week to week. I always worked nights and it was to hard to keep up. We didn't have all these new gadgets to record and download things. LOL!! -- Cathy F., 11:54:02 06/15/12 Fri [1]

[> I DVR'd and watched this weekend. I did like it, but what I liked was good old bad JR. I love Bobby too, but he cant be the knight in shining armor without JR, no one else is as bad as he is good. (grin) I'll watch for now, John Ross is a creep, but it might be nice to see him fall on his face. I miss Jock still, "I AM Ewing Oil!" Ah yes, Jock sat at the head of the table with Miss Ellie and all was right with the world. Sigh! -- mkim, 19:42:01 06/18/12 Mon [1]
