Subject: I was only going to watch for awhile, but then the producers kept the familiar theme song and when I heard that, I was hooked. Yes, I was an avid fan of the original until late seasons when they jumped the shark and I have visited the ranch during my treks to Texas. Inside. . . .I'll go over.

I missed Miss Ellie and it is sad that Barbara Bel Geddes has passed away. But I am glad they didn't bring in a new "Miss Ellie" as they did with Donna Reed for one season during the original series. It just wouldn't have been the same.

Bobby's wife evidently is supposed to fill a matriarch role. That's fine but hopefully they will add more spice to her character, otherwise she is going to be very boring. I did love her shotgun scene though!

I hope we see more of Ray Krebs and find out what he is doing now. And he and Jenna had a son, Lucas I think, who would be a Ewing since Ray was Jock's son even though he probably calls himself Krebs. And wasn't there some question as to whether or not Lucas was Ray's son or Bobby's? That would be an interesting new character.

Charlene Tilton looked awful. She has not aged well at all. She looked older than JR. If Lucy returns again, they need to try more makeup and some Botox and a crash diet.

I miss Cliff Barnes. I understand Ken Kercheval is scheduled to reprise his role as Cliff in some upcoming episodes. That will be fun because the best fighting in the original series was Cliff and JR. Which, IMO, is the element that is really missing, at least so far, in this new series -- the next generation of Ewings and Barnes fighting it out.

In one of the Dallas movies after the original series, Afton (Cliff's long-time girlfriend) had a daughter and the implication in the movie was that Cliff was her father. So is this who Rebecca in the new series is supposed to be? Rebecca was Cliff's mother's name but I can't remember what Afton named her daughter. But then it doesn't fit if Tommy is really her brother.

If Cliff's daughter isn't Christopher's new wife, then I think she needs to appear in the series to add the next generation of the Ewing - Barnes feud. I don't want to just see John Ross and Christopher fighting it out episode after episode.

Another thing I missed from the original series was the beautiful clothing, particularly the evening gowns, that the ladies wore. It was disappointing that the Cattleman's Ball was not formal. Maybe they will have the traditional Oil Barons Ball which is when everyone was really dressed up.

John Ross should have ended up in the swimming pool when Christopher confronted him at the wedding. That was almost a staple of the original series -- a fight on the front lawn during a family celebration and the antagonist going into the pool.

Several comments I have read today are women who watched the show with a daughter and explained to them the background. I can understand where people who didn't watch or were too young to watch the original series may have been a little lost at times in this new show. Ratings were very good, and it was the highest rated show last evening among both cable and major networks. But young viewers didn't tune in as much as hoped.

Yes, I'm hooked in a way that I haven't been for any show since JAG.
