I can't believe this, but it appears that the new episode of Bones tonight has been pre-empted by a speech from President Bush. Couldn't he have reflected on his presidency LAST week when Bones was a repeat???

I saw this question posted on another forum and I thought it was interesting, so I decided to ask it here:

What is the best book you have read that you never want to read again? In other words, a book that so deeply affected you when you first read it that you cannot emotionally stand to read it again. Either fiction or nonfiction.

  - I used to love ARS! I found a paperback copy of "Downtown" in the Atlanta airport one time and got hooked. I read about 4 books and then started Peachtree Road. I couldn't get past the first 4 chapters - WAY too dark, and there was always an abused child lurking in the shadows somewhere in each of her books. Ugh. I found this little ditty this morning - Thought it interesting. Especially since we were just talking not long ago about variety shows like Carol Burnett and how much we enjoyed them.

I'm willing to watch - it would be nice to have something the whole family can enjoy.

I wonder if the guy can pull it off? What do you think?

- Interesting. Both Ellen Degeneres and Rosie O'Donnell recently did variety specials and both of them flopped. All the articles I read said that the concept of a variety show was now officially dead. However, I LOVED Rosie's variety special and would gladly watch it if they brought it back again. And I'm not even that crazy about her, but I thought she did a great job with the special. It was a lot like Dean Martin's show from way back. Sigh. I miss TV like that.     - my daughter just mentioned that - and I never heard of it - I missed them both- But I think one of the key things about a variety show is the stars / hosts have to be entertainers. Not Comediennes, Not actors, but musical entertainers. Even Carol Burnett - in all her comedy skills, was originally a broadway actress who sang.         Forgot to say, I agree with everything you said, with one minor change: Cher sang, Sonny sort of sang. But more than the Smothers Brothers. Also, Wayne Brady had a variety show a few years back and I don't think it did so well. He's the black guy from "Who's Line is it Anyway?"         The only time I heard Rosie sing - it was rather painful to my ears- lol- I was thinking more along the lines of Bebe Neuworth (?) - I knew her as Lillith on Cheers, but her singing origins were stellar. For those of you who watch NCIS, they sure do use a lot of the guest characters from JAG. One of the earlier episodes tonight on USA channel ("Bait"), had the actor who played Sergei now playing a Marine Captain. Then in the prime time episode on CBS tonight, the actor who played Sadik was the Ambassador to Afghanistan...talk about freaky! He was wanting to prosecute Ducky for War crimes!

Oh, and if anyone is watching "The Mentalist" on CBS, Jack Keeter is one of the guest stars!

It's like Homecoming Week for JAG!!!!!!!!! Where's my Harm and Mac????

Then, I was surprised to see Keeter on The Mentalist! On Leverage, the guy who played Harm's boss at the CIA played a mafioso that they were after. I found an interesting article in the Indianapolis Star this morning. I thought you might get a kick out of it as well, especially as it quotes a certain personality from CBS. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't this have something to do with the cancellation of JAG?

�The television business is rediscovering that there are Americans who matter who aren�t ages 18 to 49.� The article goes on to say, �There is a growing sense in the industry that the 18-to-49 category�s importance to marketers may be wildly overblown. Moreover, in an age of DVRs, multichannel systems and increasingly tiny ratings, the demo obsession may itself be pushing down ratings, exacerbating the industry�s problems and excluding from consideration too many programs that could have broad appeal.�

This is the part that I found �interesting,� it�s a quote from CBS Chief Executive Les Moonves: �Our philosophy has always been (that) limiting the world to 18-to-49 was rather short-sighted�I think it�s rather ironic that as of today we�re in first place in every single demographic, including 18-to-49. We have always believed that a wider tent was a much smarter way to go.�

DH and I have a Band Booster meeting tonight at 7, so we'll probably miss part (or most) of the show tonight, but I'm sure we'll make it a weekly family date like we did last year.

- I will tune in for sure. But I'm right off AI. The only good thing about last year was David Cook. I just think the whole program is out of date and irrelevant. Much as I don't like pop per se, (Britney et al), that is the scene that sells. AI is too general for my liking. I'd prefer it if it were designated pop, punk, indie, rock...whatever. I was watching the Golden Globes last night cause I knew that MAriska Hargitay was nominated and last heard she had her dress picked and everything. She wasnt there. I was so bummed.
Found out today she is in the hospital with a partially collapsed lung. She had a sledding accident over the Christmas holidays and she suffered a relapse.
She refuses to miss any episodes off so she will return to work on the set as scheduled.
Ya'll keep her in your prayers please.

- BT, check out the Sleuth channel. It's a sister channel to the USA channel, one of those located way up in the 100's, LOL. It started playing JAG in the morning at 6 & 7 a.m., I think...might be 5 & 6. There's also a marathon on Tuesdays during the day. - I used to spend New Year's Eve at my grandparents when I was a kid, while my parents got to go out. I was still so young that I fell asleep before midnight, but my grandparents used to wake me up, and wrap me in this orange blanket, and we'd sit on their balcony and watch the fireworks all over town. Right now, several sources have that he died of a heart attack due to Kawasaki Syndrome, then there is the seizure story (that hangs together with a possible case of autism - that John Travolta aklways denied as it is not an 'illness' recognized by Scientology) and then there is the 'scientology' conspiricy theory. Hey I was wondering if over the holidays anyone had a chance to catch some of Hallmark's Christmas movies? One that really stood out to me was "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" starring Henry Winkler, Brooke Burns and this new to me cutie, Warren Christie. It was cute and the story was nice. I just enjoyed it so much I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not Hallmark allows these movies to be purchased on DVD. It is a Hallmark movie apparently and I've attempted to e-mail the channel without any response. Any ideas?

- I saw Benjamin Button yesterday afternoon, during a raging snowstorm. There were about 10 people in the theater! I enjoyed it, although it was fairly long. I just caught an episode of this on TNT -

what a great show- sort of like a cross between the old It Takes a Thief with Robert Wagner and The Sting with Paul Newmann and Robert Redford.

I don't know if every episode is bad guys getting even with bad guys- but it seems like fun.

All the comments on Lorretta Young in Bishops WIfe and Robert Mitchum in Holiday Affair reminded me of a fun old movie with Loretta Young, Robert Mitchum and William Holden called Rachel and the Stranger.

I've only seen it once but thought it was such a cute romantic farse - of course I have a thing for marriage of convenience anyhow -

      - Young at Heart is a remake of Four Sisters starring the Lane Sisters and John Garfield. ( I loved John Garfield as a kid) This was the film that made him a star and sort of broke the mold for leading men. It has a different ending than the DD/FS version.... Last night at a dinner out with friends we were talking about the great christmas movies that no one gets to see any more.

Fortunately, tv stations still air It's a Wonderful Life.

This year I didn't notice the original MIracle on 34th Street which I think beats the remake hands down.

but some great old movies are Never aired anymore-

for instance - does anyone remember Christmas in Connecticut with Barbara Stanwyck? What a great movie.

Anyone got any others they remember and wish aired on TV for all to see?

- I love "Christmas in Connecticut"! It aired a week ago on one of the classic movie channels. Talk about a great movie for DJE & CB to do a remake of, they would be perfect in the two starring roles! The original "Miracle on 34th Street" aired on Thanksgiving weekend. The one best new movie I saw this season was "The Note" on the Hallmark Channel. It was a good inspirational movie without being too sappy or holiday-tinsel over the top.     - I remember noticing Bell's of St Mary on very early in the season - didn't have time to watch though. I was very upset the few times White Christmas was on, too many comercials and too many cuts. I mean really how do you cut songs from that movie? - Well, there's always the Grinch for a great Christmas classic. It was on the other day: the original cartoon one. My personal favorite Christmas movie the Rich Little's Christmas Carol from 1978, but alas, they never play it anymore, and I it was never released on DVD. - TCM aired Christmas in Connecticut, Christmas Eve, Nearly every adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The Bells of St Mary's and Going My Way were also aired, at least twice. I love TCM, I pay extra for extended basic cable so that I can get that channel, they can have HBO Showtime and all the rest, give me TCM!!   - Saw on the fordjefansTV page, Holiday Affair was to be shown 2 times on Lifetime and 2 times on their LMN, including Christmas Day. I guess they own the rights to it, so that's the only place it can be seen. AMC ran the original several times, too, I think. DJE and Cindy Gibb so much more natural IMO. Another wonderful movie was Silent Night, which I saw both on Hallmark, and this year on ION. Low key production but very intense.     - I never take down my decorations until January. I spend a month or so putting them up (I start in early November), so it always feels like it's too soon to take them down. But I usually start on New Year's Day, simply because I'm not at work so I have time to get started.
