  • At the end of the episode, 'Jinx', Harm goes to see Annie again. She asks him if he has come to fix her roof. In reply, he makes a joke, saying, "Can't -- (I'm) afraid of heights." I'm assuming you understand how measurements and elevation relate to 'heights.' I always thought that Harm was pretty funny with that bit of irony, even though I didn't like him spending time with Annie. That moment was almost as good as in 'We the People' when he said he wanted to get out of the helicopter (mid-episode) because 'he gets airsick.'   I've started watching NCIS on our History TV (it's replaced JAG reruns.) And again, I hate to admit it but I'm enjoying the show. I feel less pressure because there is nothing remotely shippery, so I can just enjoy the characters, and the murders mysteries.
  
  It was too close to JAG when it had its first season (2003-4), and I still felt bitter about the way DP seemed to abandon JAG for this new show.
  
  I only started watching the reruns when we had a visitor staying with us. He watches the show, so now my DH and I do. What makes me smile, is that MULD (remember, the Messed Up Little Dude as MichelleB called him), plays a good goofy guy.)

      • The older I get, the more I realize that grudge holding is childish and spiteful, and hurts no one but myself. I'm sure that DB doesn't give a rat's patootie if I watch or not. But the actors, writers, and technicians need a paycheck too, and I have no grudge against them. And we have to admit that were it not for DB, there would have been no Harm, no JAG, and no DJE in that role for 10 yrs.           • If DPB were still running the show then I wouldn't watch it ever just because I'd fall in love with the characters like I did with JAG and I wouldn't trust what he would do with them.         • It is by no means a grudge, CC. It is simply not a taste I care for. If I hate Brussels Sprouts, and make every effort to avoid them, am I holding a grudge against Brussels Sprouts?   • Coming from somewhere that the politics weren't an issue - ie: we didn't know about them - I have watched NCIS from the beginning, and I quite like the show.   • Cece, I think if you enjoy the show, you should watch, period. There are plenty of posters here who would love to discuss the show, I'm sure. I watch sporadically. I was one who said, 'never again' but there are some story lines that have been compelling enough to pull me in. To be honest, for me, the characters have been secondary to the stories. I like Gibbs and Ducky, but I can take or leave any of the rest of them. I coul do without some of the innuendo(Tony's such a slime) and head slaps, but thats not why I've watched anyway.     • Unlike JAG, the murder mysteries are usually really interesting, so the show is more plot driven. I often thought the plot got in the way of the Harm/Mac dynamic, on JAG. I missed it when they weren't in the scenes. With NCIS, the characters are more like the characters in WAT, CSI, CC, CM, etc. And Theresa, as I'm watching old shows, as well as updating with new eps, you can see what has happened to the characters.   • I was a never-er. Pretty much same reason as Theresa. Didn't want to fall in love with characters when I didn't trust TPTB. Now it is mostly because I have so little time to watch the shows that I already want to watch, something would have to give in order to add that one in the mix.   • I've watched from the start and really like the show. For me it doesn't really matter who's show it is as long as I enjoy watching.   • I heard/read in an interview with CB that when the producers heard that she was an avid motorcyclist, they decided to write it in for her.   Chief did an inside response to a thread of mine that was about to go into the archives. Her topic was slightly different to mine, but I wonder if anyone else is interested in discussing the "effect" music has. Here is what Chief said, "I've been known to hit my "back" button on my CD player many times for the same song. Sometimes it takes a while for a song to burrow deep into my subconscious - sometimes it takes an event or experience in my life to cause me to turn to a song I know well but don't obsess over and let it become the salve my soul needs at that time. Sometimes it's the voice. Sometimes it's the lyrics. Sometimes it's an impassioned guitar solo. Sometimes a combination. Music is so wonderful, and it's psychological effects are only fractionally understood."
  
  I know we've had many discussions on the types of music that gets to us, but does anyone know why or how it affects us? For some reason, I feel music is different from other sensual stimuli. There are lots of interesting theories, like rhythms imitating the sound of the sea, or the womb, or the heart, which make sense to me at least. Music can drive us insane or send us into waves of orgasmic pleasure.
  
  Right now, I'm watching So you think you can dance, and sometimes I'll watch one particular dance over and over. However, although the dance moves themselves may be amazing, I won't watch again unless the "music" itself fascinates me as well. The dance movements seem to compliment the music rather than the other way around. I can't imagine loving a dance that is done without music, but I can certainly love the music without the dance. The combination, though, is mesmerizing.
  
  So anyone else have theories on music....any kind, from harpsichord to electric keyboard, from pipes of pan to tenor sax, from opera to hip-hop?

  • You know what I find interesting is that music, in order to really touch us in whatever way it does, has the be a marriage of just the right elements. To impress a certain mood upon us, the lyrics have to be in love with the voice (and the feeling in the voice has to love the lyrics right back), and the voice and the lyrics give birth to melody. The melody falls in love with the rhythm sections, and they give birth to the guitar solos. And it's all a family of sounds working together.   • That's what happens to me: there are songs that link to my experiences in life. When I listen to a song that drives all my attention, that piece will remain linked to what I was doing at the time I was listening and every time I will listen it again I will recall that moment or period, something like Proust's madeleine. The song of my life is "A Salty Dog" by Procol Harum. That song takes me to my old house when I was somewhere around 8 yo and was watching at a black&white TV every time I listen to it.     • Oh, I love him too! I just love that style. Glad someone besides Harry Connick Jr is singing that style.
