Any thoughts on the season premiere of Army Wives? -- TH, 09:14:17 06/08/09 Mon [23]
I was a little surprised that Claudia Joy and Emmalin were staying at the house. I guess I thought that if the Holdens owned it, it would have been on the market or sold. If it was the post housing for the post commander, they would have had to vacate for the next commander.

Pamela is such a kick. I'm glad she found a way to help Roxie save the bar.

Interesting progression of events with Denise. She seems very isolated at this point. I wonder where they are going with it. Isn't there a more concerted effort to keep gosssipy news away from people serving overseas? Furthermore, while I don't doubt that Denise could be fired for unprofessional behavior, disclosure of the actual reasons would still be a violation of her privacy, wouldn't it?

    - The thing is in my experience when two friends are having a crisis, they group and cry together. Maybe that's just my world and I should be grateful for the blessing of shared tears. I got questions for the experts just basing my own speculations on the teasers if something happens to Frank can Denise stay in the base since her son is serving in Iraq too? I really want a different actor opposite CB as in DJE but I know that wont happen.Im so spoiled rotten by CB and DJE onscreen.I concur with the ratings and critics saying Denise and Claudia Joy's friendship will be touching and interesting to watch this season.Cant wait. - I don't watch the show, but if you google 'The National Ledger' for today, there's a blurb from Catherine Bell about AW and her role in it. Looks like the guy who plays her husband (Frank) will be back, in a big way, this season playing opposite her. - You're correct TH that the house belongs to the base commander and CJ would not be allowed to continue living there. Since her husband is stationed in Belgium, she is no longer authorized to live in base housing without special permission from the base CO, and it certainly would not be in the house designated for him and his family. Also, NO one is allowed to leave their quarters in a dirty mess the way that unit was left. COs have the same rules as the lowly private...you don't leave without being checked out by the housing office first. (inside please) -- abrah, 19:46:26 06/08/09 Mon

  - I think one of the problems was that most of the people didn't know that she and Frank were separated. No, separation isn't divorce, but it's not totally together either. Many people date while separated. I certainly wouldn't, but a lot of people do. I think they'll bring her back from it by having it in that context. That's all I can figure. - I'm confused. I thought the guy Denise slept with had been discharged from the hospital? If that the case then it is no ones business who the heck she sleeps with. Maybe because military and she cheated on her husband that was more the factor and the fact used to be a patient.     - Does the military do anything to the husbands who cheat while they're away? God knows there's enough of that going on. Just as there are guys who are faithful. There's always a percentage. - I like the show too even better than the ratings ploy of that terrorism and Amanda's death because this is more realistic.I admire fans upholding morals and values but some that are way too self-righteous are too much.No one likes adultery but it happens to many ppl not just military ppl.   - I dont think it is self righteous to EXPECT a show to have balls enough NOT to go their just for the sake of ratings. Sure it happens, but to make it happen with an older woman and kid barely out of his teens is not something I care to watch. IMO they are playing into the fantasy of too many men. You dont have to show how strong a woman is by exploiting sexuality and turning her into the slut of the week. It may be good for the ratings but its just bad and unimaginative writing.     - True Trish but Im just shaking my head at some fans on other forums overreacting when they're the same viewers of Desperate Housewives,Mad Men,Gossip Girls,Grey's Anatomy and many others whose male and female characters really sleep around too much.       - Maybe that why I dont watch those shows either. I dont like it that they took Denise, had her come into her own by going back to school and back to work etc. Then they ruin it by turning her into an adulterer. Like that was the only outcome they could think of for a strong woman with her own mind. It diminishes the role of independant women by painting them with male stereotypes. - Adultery plot happens a lot in primetime shows and cable shows even in movies so why the standard that it cant happen in the AW show.To be honest when I saw the title Army Wives on lifetime its a given adultery will be dealt with down the road on any of the characters but it so happens TPTB picked our favorite Denise.Its lame if its Roland again or any of the guys while the wives are spared of this adultery arc. My youngest is in the new NintendoDS commercial for their new game Treasure World. The game comes out June 30th.
The commercial is set to air first on Nickelodeon.

Has anyone else seen the latest Pixar movie, "Up"? I usually don't rave about animated movies, but this one is a must see, IMO. It's central theme is a wonderfully poignant love story with great messages of love, loyalty, friendship and sacrifice - along with humor and action elements for the kids. - Thanks for lisa for the plug in because its truly an UPlifting adventure...it shows Disney Pixar are billion times better than most animated films. Its very telling because UP and Star Trek continued to dominate the box office even when they're old movies. Its word of mouth about the quality. Its Academy award bound for sure,so rare movies score 100% in Rotten Tomatoes and many movies like Avatar,District 9,Public Enemies were dropped by the Cannes festival for UP.The media said so rare men cry in films but they did for Marley and Me and UP. What's also cool, is the fact that " allocine.fr " hasn't dubbed the actors on their voices . It's in original version with subtitles.

I just got back from New York. My daughter and I go every year with her Theatre teacher and a group of 50! We saw "Little Mermaid" and "Shrek" on Broadway. We went to The Apollo Theater and the kids got got to go up on the stage and sing. What a thrill for them! They did that two years ago, so my daughter's teacher told her she should put return engagement at The Apollo on her resume. LOL! Yikes a simple post that I thought might spark a little hope re: a JAG movie has sure disintegrated!!!! Be ye supporters of Mac, Harm or a combination of both I thought this was a blip on the radar that all could celebrate and speculate about. Boy was I wrong. Everyone has a right to express their opinion. The enthusiasm and positive values expressed in the article IMO were heartwarming and not commonly written about in today's entertainment world. It is all about sensationalism, inuendo, bad behaviour and scandal. It is too bad this article was reduced to that level. For those who felt uplifted by this article great and for those who chose to focus on other aspects, whatever floats your boat! I choose to be heartened by the fact that there is at least an idea floating out there for a JAG movie and that idea was not gunned down by the creator who holds the keys to the JAG kingdom. And on that note, have a good weekend everybody.

- I like the fact that here recently both CB & DJE have expressed an interest in a JAG movie/reunion...not an automatic poo-poo or no way, but a genuine interest. That to me bodes well for all of us JAG fans. A reunion/movie without either wouldn't be JAG, but like some have said you gotta make sure you have the "right" person doing the writing. - Normally Im against Hollywood remakes but this was well done thanks to the genius that is JJ Abrams.I never understood WB dumping him for directing the Superman franchise when to me he's the perfect man to make Superman fly again. - oh dear - it's been so long since I've had small kids - and I was never an entertaining parent - I was fortunate enough to buy a house with a pool and a basketball court and we put in a swing set - I invited other kids over to play often - Do you have friends you can make play dates with? Kids are usually pretty good at entertaining themselves. My daughter and her friends would play dress up for hours. my son and his friends would play stick hockey on the driveway. - I agree with the Summer Reading Program. The library where I work has some very interesting things scheduled for our kids this summer. - Take comfort from earlier generations. Children do not need to be "entertained" - they are marvelous good at it themselves, with a little guidance (& occasional refereeing by mom). It never occurred to us to spend $ 'entertaining' our 6 kids. They had a swingset, jump ropes, marbles (yes, they got quite competitive about it), and bikes/trikes. And regular trips to the library. - Let's not forget building forts in the living room from sofa cushions, chairs and old sheets/blankets/bedspreads. If any of your kids are girls, you could teach them to sew. Buy inexpensive stuff at Walmart, remnant material, etc. Actually, teach the boys to sew too. Eventually they will need to be able to replace a button or fix a split seam. Do you all think that actors/stars watch the re-runs of their shows and movies? Do you think they buy copies of their own DVD collections and re-watch them over and over. I'm not talking about the eerie aging movie stars who watch themselves as the young studs and beauties they once were -- I mean stars watching objectively their own shows and getting into them as much as we all do. - I would think not. If they did then there wouldnt be the continuity mistakes there are on most shows. The actors would be able to say "het wait a minute, I wasnt stabbed by a crazed hillbilly, I was shot." Just sayin'. - I have heard several of the actors on Chuck say that they watch the show, but I can understand why they would. There are three different "worlds" in Chuck that do not always interact, so many of the actors are only in part of the show, and never get to see what else is going on until the show airs. Anyone else loving the passion these young people are showing for dance? I think I could be perfectly happy watching the all of the dancers that are left perform a new routine every week. Don't cut - just let them dance all summer long.

On another note, would somebody in the Boston area please tell turn on the heat? It's called June people, and it is supposed to be warm.

- This is such a tragedy all around. First the doctor who did the procedure should be strung up by his thumbs. As you may have heard, Susan Boyle didn't win BGT -- she came in second. It looked to me that she was actually relieved. I wonder what will happen to her. A dance troupe called 'Diversity' won and they were truly amazing and deserved to win. SB sang her 'Dream' song -- that was disappointing, so maybe that's why she lost out.   - IMO, BGT is a horribly embarrassing show. I hated it when I watched it on my last visits to the UK. It's not at all like AI (or the original Brit Pop Idol.) First of all, it compares apples to oranges, with a wide variety of acts. Second, it doesn't groom or help along, the contestants. AI is a way to get young singers, out there. Is anyone else as tired as I am of all of the �Jon and Kate� hoopla? I love this show more and more. I love the fact that they show the humanity of the characters, and I love that they make me laugh out loud. This ending was incredibly sad, and very well done, in my opinion. I'd be interested to know your thoughts?

But I am tired of Betty not having a little more backbone and please have her get rid of those BRACES. I mean how long is she going to wear them. If the contest was based on singing ability alone, Adam would win hands down. But this is not a professional singing contest/audition, and both contestants know this.

The human factor comes into play. Adam is seen as something other than the cute, all red-blooded American boy, so those prejudices will hurt him. I really like Kris, and if he wins, it's because that's what the majority (or at least the busiest callers) want. But much as I like Kris, he is not the best singer, not by a long chalk.

I wouldn't mind him winning if it were not for the homophobia that I know will play a role. That doesn't honour him, and I doubt will make him feel good. It's not fair on either singer to vote against someone because of factors that have nothing to do with talent.

But then I'm sure Adam knows all about that. Adam will be signed right away if he does not win, so he'll win anyway. And poor Kris's win...deserved or not, will be tainted. It really is too bad that we can't just love people for who they are, as long as they are not criminals or hurting others.

Meanwhile, I'm still shivering over the haunting, vampirical rendition of Mad World. The musical arrangement with the echoing "clanging" sound in the background was so evocative. I think I liked the first version slightly better in vocal interpretation, but this one in the surrounding dramatic effects. And Sam Cooke's A Change is going to Come ....Wow! The third song wasn't so hot, but he made a great attempt.

Kris's version of Ain't No Sunshine was fabulous, but again, not as exciting as his first version. It must be the "fresh" factor that can never be repeated. The second song was okay, and the third song was really bad. That wasn't Kris's fault, as this song wasn't made for someone with those vocal limitations. It really wasn't fair on Kris.

I predict a Kris win, though it will be close.

        I root for the underdog in sports. However, with talent shows, I have zero patience with the no talents, bad singer/dancers etc. However, Kris isn't one of those. He deserves to be in the top 2, and he isn't the underdog. He is running higher on diolidol.com, though just by a margin. - ITA with Cec. Adam is a once in a lifetime talent. His range, tone and style never fails to really impress me. Talent alone, Adam blows Kris away.         Trish, yeah, that does sound bitter. But honestly, it wasn't. I was making an observation, as I did in the original post. I knew Kris was going to win, so there was no shock factor and I'm not upset. I just made an observation based on 8 seasons of AI. My all time favourite was Fantasia, and her career has kind of tanked. There are only two AI winners who have become superstars: Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. I don't dislike Kris.   - I have to say that this season has seen more talent on AI (if you discount poor Megan..LOL.) The show wasn't boring and the contestants were so polite and nice.     - JAG Junkie (Ronda) -- I can't watch AI at all!!! It is painful for me to hear these people who go on, all courageous, only to be picked apart and critiqued to humiliation. But why I REALLY don't watch is because it seems that what should be a sort of amatuer talent show competition has turned into a cut-throat battle of contestants, some of whom, HAVE had lots of singing lessons AND experience -- thus it's not really a fair bunch or competition.       - I have to agree. I hate reality shows in general. I hate the ones where they strategize and vote each other off. I like straight-forward, black and white game shows. If you are going to be in the entertainment industry you CANT have people telling you that you are a wonderful singer when you are not. If you suck and need work then someone should have the testicular fortitude to tell you.         Once again, I agree. Simon tells it like it is, and I respect him for that. Some of these people need a slap of reality. And some of them have potential, but need some work, and if they can't take it from Simon, then they'll never make it in a harsh, cutthroat industry.         I do know some people who have auditioned here in Texas. They let some of the more entertainiing rejects through just so they can have a diverse group to put on TV. Unlike what it appears on TV, not everyone auditions for the 3/4 judges. They audition for asome unknown AD's and PA's. The only reason some of the really bad ones get through is only to make GOOD TV, NOt because anyone thought they had a chance. 90% of the bad ones know it from the start they go along with it for the 15 minutes of fame.   - Oh I certainly understand the tears. I never used to cry at work until I got a really undeserved bad review (after years of very goods and excellents.) I sobbed my eyeballs out after I left the manager's office. After that, I found it very hard to hold back tears when anything went wrong, whether at work or university.   - I think the apartment she shares with Christina is expensive and also she might have a lot of credit card bills never had to worry about before. Anyone else addicted to this show? Simon Baker is so hot, I only wish they'd let him use his aussie accent. I haven't really been into any show that deeply since JAG but The Mentalist is sucking me in. He's just so darned cute and smart and I love that little half-smile he does. Good supporting cast and the plots are easy to follow without being too simplistic.
