Subject: I do watch, because there are sometimes some really good voices. Katherine McPhee was one of them back in S5. Her mother is a vocal coach. There is a 16 yr old contestant on now (Jessica Sanchez), with a lovely voice, though she is not my fave. I know different types of singing require specific vocal requirements, but all singers should take care of their vocal chords, or they'll be toast (inside).
In reply to: JJ (Ronda) - Makes my life easier anyway to just stick with my four scripted shows. LOL 's message, "Yes, you're generalizing, but you are soooo right! That's why I don't watch Idol, Voice, or any of those types of shows. I am very picky about music and I have no tolerance for sub par performances, and there are just too many of them on those shows for me to spend my valuable time on them. I know that's extremely harsh and judgemental from someone who is NOT a professional, but that's just the way it is." on 19:40:06 04/25/12 Wed

Of course, there have been certain singers whose terrible voices were part of their charm and appeal. e.g. Louis Armstrong, whose trumpet playing was sublime, but whose vocal abilities were non-existant. But when he sang with Ella, whose voice, imo was fab-u-lous, the collaboration really worked.

I'm just not into competitions in that format. I don't watch reality shows either (can't stand them!) -- JJ (Ronda)--and yes, Ella was fabulous!, 18:48:26 04/26/12 Thu [1]
