Subject: Holiday Movies

We are starting a month-long holiday celebration on the Harmyboard, and we want the festivities to spill over onto our other boards as well. So, please, help us post some holiday threads throughout the month.

Let's start with this question:

Other than DJE's "Holiday Affair", what is your favorite movie for this time of year? Do you enjoy the traditional classics or the newer holiday movies? Do you tend to watch more comedy holiday movies or drama?

[> Well, I have a thing for old movies, and one of my favorite old Christmas movies is "Christmas in Connecticut" with Barbara Stanwyck. Also "White Christmas" and "Holiday Inn". Of course, none of these are overly "Christmas-y", but great movies nonetheless. -- JJ (Ronda)--I only wish Gene Kelly's one "Christmas" movie hadn't been a dark movie about a psychopath., 18:53:45 12/01/11 Thu [1]

[> My favorite Christmas movie used to be the 1947 version of Miracle on 34th Street, but I watched It's a Wonderful Life for the first time a few years ago, and now my DH and I watch it together and cry every year, so it's my new favorite. -- Pretz, 22:47:50 12/01/11 Thu [1]

[> I am also a fan of old movies and love "Christmas in Conneticut". Also "Holiday Inn", "White Christmas","The Bishop's Wife" (original with Cary Grant) & "Miracle on 34th Street" (original made in 1947 w/ Natalie Wood). I also love the "Charlie Brown Christmas" and "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas' (cartoon w/ Boris Karloff not the movie although that is ok it is not a must see). And it goes without saying "Holiday Affair" with DJE. -- kleigh, 00:14:06 12/02/11 Fri [1]

[> "Joyeux Noel" ("Merry Christmas") is also a fabulous Xmas movie! A French-German-English co-production, it revisits the famous and true story of the World War I soldiers who did a ceise-fire and celebrated together (opposing sides!) on Christmas Eve. A lovely glimpse at the good in people during trying times. Available in the US also. -- Colie, 09:42:58 12/05/11 Mon [1]
