Subject: So I watched the Grammies mostly because of WH. I never watch it but I think I'm getting old.

Some of the acts used a lot of glitz and lighting. It was cool to watch but I didn't remember the songs. I guess that doesn't matter.

Then Paul McCartney, Adele, Tony Bennett and a few others sang and I remembered what they sang. Those performances I really enjoyed.

I guess I'm a pre-mtv person where the visual that went along with a song was my memory of where I was when the song was playing on the radio. Now, I suspect a lot of kids visualize the video instead. Does a song have to be really good if they use a really cool video?

What do y'all think?

[> Same here, judi. I only tuned in to the Grammys because I wanted to see how they were going to honor/remember Whitney Houston. I only saw the beginning, though- didn't see Jennifer Hudson sing, and did Chaka Khan perform at all? I figured she might sing "I'm Every Woman" since Whitney did her own cover of Chaka's song (You can even hear Whitney saying "Chaka Khan"! at the end of the song).Other than that, I couldn't tell you how many years it's been since I've watched the Grammys. I think in the 80's *maybe* some in the early 90's. -- Matou/Carol, 21:37:40 02/14/12 Tue [1]

[> [> (con't) I tuned in to see how many awards Michael Jackson would walk away with, and I actually knew and enjoyed *ALL* the music that was featured then.No fancy/glitzy stuff- just let the *artist* perform. I at least felt entertained then, instead of "distracted" by all the sets, noise, and bizarre hair colors or "face" nets! Sigh... I guess my age is starting to show.... -- Matou/Carol, 21:39:26 02/14/12 Tue [1]

[> According to my 12 year old if the song is irritating it doesn't matter what the video looks like. It has to be a good song. But if you can have a good song with a good video along with it, then "Dude that rocks" (end quote). -- Theresa, 23:30:20 02/14/12 Tue [1]

[> [> Hey Theresa, I really didn't notice the song because of everything else. The funny thing is all that is done with MIDI lighting and music and I used to be in that business. Oy, am I getting old. -- judi waving to Theresa and sending love to that 12 yr old and her sister, 15:29:30 02/15/12 Wed [1]

[> I haven't watched the Grammy's since the early 80's. I'm from before the MTV generation. I always relate songs to my memories. I was a CMT watcher. And there were great videos on there. But, still music to me is memories. I am old!! LOL! -- Cathy F. John Michael Montgomery's "I Can Love You Like That" my heart goes pitter pat!, 20:08:12 02/15/12 Wed [1]

[> I don't watch a lot of videos because I just don't watch tv much anymore, but there are a few artists whose videos I have to see. Some I like, some meh. But I like to hear the song first and make my own impressions, then see if the artist's vision is close or interesting. -- The Chief...
