James Franklin and the new staff at Penn State added a big piece to its 2015 class on Sunday, hauling in a verbal commitment from Glassboro (N.J.) Top247 wide receiver Juwan Johnson. Johnson was on campus for an unofficial visit when he pulled the trigger. He said that he came into the weekend thinking that a decision would be coming. "Basically it felt like home from the moment that I walked in," he said. "I felt the chemistry and the need that they had for me. I just loved everything about the college when I visited." The 6-foot-4, 200-pound junior is the No. 55 recruit in the country and the No. 8 athlete nationally, according to 247Sports. He is the No. 2 player in the state of New Jersey. Johnson chose the Nittany Lions over scholarship offers from Alabama, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina, Virginia and others. His top five heading into the weekend consisted of the Nittany Lions, Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan and Boston College. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection caught 26 passes for 421 yards and four touchdowns in a limited junior season. He caught 29 passes for 441 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore. Penn State wide receivers coach Josh Gattis connected with Johnson when the new staff arrived in January. "It's a good school, and I especially like [Gattis]. He's very laid back and someone that I can talk to," Johnson told Lions247 in February. "Their coaching staff is real fresh, real young. It's very uptempo. They can make a lot of things happen. They can win a National Championship and a Big Ten Championship. They can do it." Johnson becomes the eighth commitment for the Nittany Lions in the Class of 2014.
