They say you should watch the news (b/c it will be on every channel if there is one nearby or if there is a chance for one nearby) and also have a weather radio so you can hear what's up when you're down in your basement in a safe place. All I know is that if there is a possibility of one nearby, there is a very loud siren. Each municipality has one and you can hear it from everywhere w/in that municipality. We've been woken up once with one and immediately snatched up William and went to the basement. The other one was in the middle of one of his baths and we did the same thing- grab a bunch of shit and head to the basement. After that, it's just watching TV until (a) it possibly gets closer and then you hide and cover in a safe place or (b) wait for the warning to lift. From what I've heard, if it's close, the sound you hear will make you think it's a train.
