i've been checking out md's 529 page and they offer a prepaid college trust plan. you pay today's rates for in-state tuition and, once your kid gets of age, the state pays the then current tuition rate based on colleges in-state. if the spawn goes to psu (which she will) md pays the average in-state rate (so you pay the difference vs paying the total amount - aka it lessens the pain per year). this sounds like a pretty epic plan to me and pretty much means i would pay a few hundo a month for 18 years and, assuming college tuitions continue to rise, save money on the back end.
