Tori had been sitting in the back of the bar, in that section thats reserved for VIPs without being truly off limits to normal patrons. She was a silent partner in almost ever business in town now, her way of keeping the little town from going belly up. It wasn't like she didn't have money to burn these days. She'd done very well for herself after everyone had left. Being able to control what stocks fell due to unforeseen disasters while their competitors stock skyrocketed in reaction made it too easy to make a killing there. She'd invested elsewhere, buying up companies but allowing them to work without her interference meant she got all the profit without any of the work.
She'd been nursing a martini when the man had first walked in, and at first she hadn't thought much of him. But by the time he'd settled onto the bar stool and ordered his drink, she knew who he was. Unlike the other's who'd been left behind, she knew what had happened. She'd watched as her lover had drawn the heat, sacrificed himself so the others could get away. She'd been proud of him that night, watching him tease the feds with such a carefree smile before burning rubber. She'd watched his tail lights till she couldn't see them any longer, then she'd finally closed the curtains and gone to bed.
She'd made it her charge to check in on everyone over the years, making sure to never be noticed. Being able to change your face had that benefit. She'd made sure those who didn't want to be caught never were, and made sure they had opportunity to survive while they laid low. She'd expected most to return within a few years, but by then they were so wracked with guilt over leaving, they didn't have the guts to return. She'd even stopped in to check on Tumber a few times while he'd been in prison. Make sure he hadn't gotten himself killed in there.
But now he was here, in her town. Either he was stone dumb or he'd come back to seek forgiveness. And though it had been many years, she never could recall him being dumb. Stupid maybe, but never dumb. She slipped across the club to stand behind him, hands on wide hips and annoyance plain on her beautiful face. "You'v got some balls coming back here after all this time without even a letter" She wondered if he'd call his crew back or if this was a solo mission. Either way, it was a risk for them to come back, with so many angry wives, most wanting their blood for leaving them high and dry.
