Your views are right on the money. Air Niugini should have searched the world for a good corporate leader. In the US recently there was an article about how serveral big companies have hired corporate managers from Austrialia to head the company. Why did they do this? Just what you said. You want the very best talented person, no matter where he comes from in the world, to run your comapny.

I think the main problem in PNG right now is absolute (and perhaps destructive)Pride. They want to show the world that they can do the job by themselves. PNG will be run by Papau New Guineans! Pride is fine, but don't go too far. The talent pool in PNG is too small. They must look outside for the talent needed to raise the country's image. Just remember what one corporate boss once stated in the US, "I don't care who gets the credit as long as the job gets done." If the world image and personal pride of the people of PNG can be brought up to high standards, all the people of PNG will gain and move foreward and I doubt any one of them will really give a damn how it happened. They will just be glad it did.

Now I have a question about PNG history. What was the nationality of the people who founded Air Nuigini orginially and built it into a modern airline? If the answer was exparitates(I don't know the answer) then who was getting the world credit for the airlines sucess? Since it was named "Air Nuigini" I would guess that the country of PNG was getting all the credit for it from the foreign visitors who use that airline, not the guy who owned it or ran it. I know on my first trip to PNG I thought I was flying an airline owned and operated by the PNG government. And I was mighty impressed with the service at the time too.

I think that who ever is in charge of transportation in PNG should get off his butt and threaten to ground the airline until they do a world search and get a better management team in there to run it before the word gets out that this airline is having maintainence problems and gets on the black list from foreign governments as an airline to avoid.
