Wow, thanks for the review. And thanks for being nice, as I'm really very new to this. And because this sketch was begun during the previous weekend and somewhat frantically finished late Thursday night.

The "tonight was boring" remark was actually supposed to be referring to the Oscars. A lot of the articles I read described the event as boring or anticlimactic because of the LOTR sweep. But it seems I didn't make this clear enough in the sketch. There are other jokes in this sketch that are unclear, because although the references make sense in my head, they may not to a general audience.

I definitely did use SNL's template. I reread the transcripts of the two sketches Gollum had been in. I originally got the idea because he was first featured on Weekend Update to steal an Oscar Jimmy and Tina had, and gave his thoughts about the nominees, etc. I have seen the LOTR movies and read the books, and now that I think about it there is a road I could have taken that related more to the real Gollum than SNL's interpretation. I'll try to be more creative next time; one thing going for me is that I only started watching the show last year.
