Subject: the review thickens

Here's some more, I'm done for the time being, but hopefully I'll be able to finish before the next update goes up.

chinese coke - the first time I read this, I felt like it seemed to trail off without really going anywhere; that the pee-pee fixation over-dominated the sketch. Upon rereading, it doesn't seem to be as bad, although the constant use of the childish pee-pee feels a tad awkward at times. It seems odd that the customers are using it, even when talking to themselves. It feels like they should be saying something else in normal conversation (even just pee), and the use of pee-pee is to make it more obvious to the waiter, who presumable has english troubles. Maybe that's just bigotry, but it's just how I feel would make the sketch a bit more natural. There were some good cracks within the sketch, such as the Confucious H. and the rabbit disease comment.

peeping tom - by far, the funniest line in this was: Hey, Steve, do you want to watch me watching "Becker" while chewing on a throw pillow? That's just a terrific attention to detail in dialogue right there. As a whole, the sketch worked really well, with a very humorous plot and well-played viewpoints. I think there were a few character inconsistencies that bear pointing out, however. In particular, it's this line: And I haven't let my boyfriend sleep over, either, because I know you don't like to look at dudes' things when compared to these two lines: I still have to peep in the mens' dorms before dawn and everyone - women and men alike - deserve the chance to be peeped on in the middle of the night as they sleep, have sex, or watch.... The lines are all funny, but I think you're going to have to chose one or the other for character consistency. Also the sponge bath and enema line seemed out of place for his character, which seemed to be against actual physical interaction.

schick - just a simple word mispronunciation premise, not unlike cork soakers or colonel angus, placed in an environment and gagged until it's out of breath. While that description might make it sound uninspired, I thought the writing in this sketch was very tight, giving a sense of flow while running from gag to gag. You pulled out a large number that I wasn't prepared for and certainly justified its existance by making it still enjoyable and funny at the end. Not much else to say except that Armisen sure seems to be the man to play Asian guys.

detective sours - oh boy was I late on this sketch. It's quite likely that those of you who read the sketches on Saturday don't even know it was there. And I did have a movie in mind for the bowler thing, although I'm not sure if the hat in question was actually a bowler or not. But the lead actor definitely wore a hat he considered stylish. Oh, and I see nothing wrong with killing characters off in comedy sketches and sometimes wonder why it doesn't happen more.
