Subject: I think a lot of fic is written to satisfy the reader who wanted to see Harriet and Bud encourage Harm and Mac. It never really happened. But in most romances, other people recognize that the love that exists. It makes it more exciting than having what we got: a potential romance that was so devoid of spark, that no one noticed. As shippers, we had to make up our own fantasies.

[> [> I agree. I never understood why the writers wrote it that way. Maybe they were afraid of playing to that cliche of EVERYONE but the couple seeing the attraction, so they only wrote the admiral as seeing it. Regardless, I think it is fun for Bud & Harriet to see it to, and I must not be the only one since it shows up in fanfic so often. -- JJ Ronda, 06:19:28 03/10/14 Mon

[> [> [> Yeah JJ, blame the clock...LOL. It's not like JAG avoided cliches. I get the secret love. That gives it excitement. But not for 9 years. It made Harriet and Bud look both daft and somewhat self-absorbed. As for AJ, knowing the connection didn't stop him from hitting on Mac. That was out of character, and it makes me think that move was a fantasy of older male writers. I, for one, was repulsed, as AJ was a father figure to Mac. -- Cece, 14:59:31 03/10/14 Mon

[> [> [> [> Totally agree with Cece's comments here. It was unrealistic that given the clear connection between Harm and Mac, Bud and Harriet seemed so oblivious. And AJ making an advance towards Mac (especially with the timing) was so unnecessary. -- Dee, 03:59:45 03/27/14 Thu
