Subject: I think Harriet wanted to see them paired off, though not necessarily with each other. She was the one who showed Dalton to Mac after she was back at JAG, and she tried to matchmake her with a lobbyist in "Rogue" in season 5. She was thrilled with Mac's engagement to Mic, and she and Bud were going to be Matron of Honor and Best Man at the wedding. She and Renee had a girl's night while Bud and Mic went drinking when Harm and Mac were out of town together. The only time Harriet and Bud were excited for Harm and Mac was at McMurphy's in FWFS. If somene WAS matchmaking, it was the Admiral: he told Harm he didn't know what Mac was seeing in Dalton, and that Mic didn't have a chance with Mac. Then there was the 'non judicial punishment' in Australia, and telling Harm not to look back. After that he asked Mic if it bothered him that Mac was in Russia, or that she was in Russia with Harm. His appointing one of them to the judiciary could be seen as his attempt to get rid of the 500 pound gorilla, and he told Meredith that the two of them were candidates for COUPLE'S therapy. He seemed plenty aware why Harm wanted to go to Paraguay, and even his anger at Harm once they returned could be because of his disappointment that they didn't tell him 'you know, it's good that Harm quit, because we're getting married the first chance we get, and this way we won't have any work conflicts (or a 500 pound gorilla in the room). The Admiral TOLD Harm to take responsibility for his actions, or he wouldn't have any luck with women, implying Mac.

[> I think a lot of fic is written to satisfy the reader who wanted to see Harriet and Bud encourage Harm and Mac. It never really happened. But in most romances, other people recognize that the love that exists. It makes it more exciting than having what we got: a potential romance that was so devoid of spark, that no one noticed. As shippers, we had to make up our own fantasies. -- Cece, 19:29:04 03/09/14 Sun

[> [> I agree. I never understood why the writers wrote it that way. Maybe they were afraid of playing to that cliche of EVERYONE but the couple seeing the attraction, so they only wrote the admiral as seeing it. Regardless, I think it is fun for Bud & Harriet to see it to, and I must not be the only one since it shows up in fanfic so often. -- JJ Ronda, 06:19:28 03/10/14 Mon

[> [> [> Yeah JJ, blame the clock...LOL. It's not like JAG avoided cliches. I get the secret love. That gives it excitement. But not for 9 years. It made Harriet and Bud look both daft and somewhat self-absorbed. As for AJ, knowing the connection didn't stop him from hitting on Mac. That was out of character, and it makes me think that move was a fantasy of older male writers. I, for one, was repulsed, as AJ was a father figure to Mac. -- Cece, 14:59:31 03/10/14 Mon

[> [> [> [> Totally agree with Cece's comments here. It was unrealistic that given the clear connection between Harm and Mac, Bud and Harriet seemed so oblivious. And AJ making an advance towards Mac (especially with the timing) was so unnecessary. -- Dee, 03:59:45 03/27/14 Thu
