Episode of the Week – Pas De Deux -- Araninda, 22:21:02 02/29/08 Fri
Our EOTW is the second episode of the 3-part Season 8 Paraguay storyline, "Pas De Deux”. Mac and Webb find themselves in a dangerous situation in Paraguay as they are drawn deeper into the world of drug merchants and terrorists. Meanwhile, Harm’s search for Mac leads him to CIA attorney Catherine Gale who placates her ailing mother by staging a fake wedding ceremony.

1) How do you rate this episode and why? When this episode first aired, some fans thought it was enjoyably humorous, others hated it. Is your opinion of this episode different today from when you first viewed it?

2) Was Catherine justified under the circumstances in deceiving her mother about her engagement to Harm? Should Catherine have told her mother the truth instead of having the fake wedding ceremony? And why did Harm agree to participate in the ceremony? Should he have refused?

3) When the show first aired, fans commented that Harm and Catherine's kiss at the end of the wedding ceremony lasted longer and was more passionate than necessary. Do you agree? Was Harm caught up in the moment? Was he attracted to Catherine? Was Harm in love with Mac at this point? Did Catherine think that Harm was in love with Mac? Was Catherine trying to entice Harm?

4) The CIA deputy director tells Harm that Webb is "on his own on this one (the mission).” Why did Webb undertake an unauthorized mission? Webb also in this episode shoots and kills their driver after learning he was passing along information to Sadik. Yet in the early episodes of the series, Webb doesn’t seem to know how to fire a gun. Was Webb a trained killer?

5) In a brief scene at JAG, AJ and Meredith officially announce their engagement as she proudly shows off her ring. Do you think AJ and Meredith should have married or were they too incompatible?

- 1) I rate this a .5 and would rate it a zero. I hated this episode. The only one I previously disliked as much as Mutiny. The CG arc was just over the top and the fake wedding was unnecessary to the story line such as it was. Inside -- Jeanaz8, 10:17:25 03/01/08 Sat

- 1) I give it a four. It *was* humorous, and I enjoyed seeing Harm go to lengths for information about Mac. - At the time it aired, I had no idea where they were going with the story arc, so then, it was about a 3.5. - I can still remember my shock after watching this episode. THIS is the best they could do to hide CB's pregnancy?? I hated the entire arc then, and I still do. It was obvious from the beginning that DPB's intention was to drive a bigger wedge between H&M, and he succeeded very well. I won't go into details because I have almost nothing nice to say about this arc. Harm kissing another blonde?? Mac an expert on diamonds??   - One of the things I liked most about this episode was seeing Gunny again. He was one of my faves. Thanks so much for the wonderful pictures, Hope. Gotta love gorgeous Harm, ever the multi-tasker. - I’ll give this episode a 2. I for one didn’t hate the whole Paraguay arc. I’ve rewatched the episodes several times. The only thing I really hated about the Paraguay arc was the end. - As usual, haven't read any of the other comments yet. I rate this about a 2.5. I wasn't overly fussed with it the first time and my opinion hasn't changed. At this end of the world, there was no knowledge about contract negotiations and so the show was just the show. Any humor in the ep - Bud's performance with the same sex vows from the internet - was totally overshadowed by the rediculous OOC behavior. - Pas de DOO DOO-- One of the few eps I truly don't like. I give it a .2 on a 10 pt scale. I loved the fact that Harm was looking for Mac-- I hated the kiss-- HATED it....lol....it was meanspirited and didn't fit the story arc at all-- and while I found humor in some of the build up that just ruined the whole ep.   - Manette knows I so totally agree with her. We share our distate for this episode for the same reasons. The kiss was the only time I got angry about the characters' actions. But my anger wasn't directed towards Harm. It was directed towards TPTB. Given the context of what was going on outside the show at the time, I felt that the kiss was a giant flip of the middle finger towards the shippers. I still feel that way.   - A man can kiss an attractive woman and enjoy it while being in love with someone else...hmmmm...don't agree and i thought both the CG kiss was disgusting and so was the one in Blindside especially when he turns around and looks all gaga eyed at her just like he did CG. - This may seem weird but will I was doing the screen caps it felt kind of like how they did Adrift 1. Where it kept going back and forth between the rehearsal and Harm doing his quals. It kind of parallels this episode where they lead up to the sham wedding and Mac getting blown up in the car. Not that this episode is even in the same league as Adrift but just kind of got that feeling. Also agree with manette on what the name of this episode should have been.   - Good observation Hope. They were the reverse. Adrift I is the best episode artistically, imo. I can watch it over and over and still feel the suspense, tension, and emotion.   - Hey Araninda, I just wanted to let you know that I love the color combination in this collage. I’m a scrapbooker and dabble in artist projects in my free time. The color combination of the left picture is amazing. I wouldn’t have thought to use bright pink with such a masculine photo, but the pink highlights the subtle green in the tree perfectly. - When she walks into McMurphys in the final scene of the series. The look on his face. . . oh, man! Yeah, I know he stood up and greeted her with a kiss, but just the moment when she walked in, purposeful and ready, and he looked at her - even today that moment takes my breath away. - There are so many to choose from! One of my favorites that hasn’t been mentioned yet is the ending scene of Heroes with Harm and Mac on his bed debating the finer points of ducking/taking cover. I just love the banter, the subtle innuendo, the flirty way Harm suggests eating in the bedroom. This was really early on and yet the chemistry between them was so evident! - For some reason my very favorite is them on the porch, and Harm wiping her tears and she leans into his hand and kisses his fingers. I know that is a kissing one, sort of, but it says so much. To answer this question is to say all of the already mentioned moments, plus H&M snuggling close as they announced their engagement in FWFS and the bullpen scene in Iron Coffin where they've just got done saying "I always know where you are" and are hugging their SO's but looking longingly at each other. So I finally got my copy of season five, and then finally watched Ghosts of Christmas Past... one of my favorite episodes.

Of course, USA had cut the kiss off over the years so I was looking forward to seeing how long, or haw many times, they actually kissed.

Also it seems as if TPTB wanted us to believe that Harm, Sr. and Jenny Lake did, in fact, do the deed. Between the conversation between Jenny and Harm (Jr) at the Wall, and Harm Sr's late arrival at the flight briefing, I'm inclined to accept that.

Anyone else have any thoughts on it?

- I agree, JAGNikJen. I think that we're supposed to believe that Harm, Sr. was unfaithful to Trish with Jenny Lake. I know similar questions have been asked, but this is angle occurred to me today.

If Harm still had exactly the same background and the same mind etc, but was unable to become a fighter jock. Let's say he has a physical disability or another issue medical issue that stops him from being able to go in that direction in the first place, what career do you think he would have chosen? He fell into law school, as a back up for when he couldn't fly. Do you think he would have become a lawyer from the beginning or do you think with his mentality he would have done something else?

- I know that Harm loved kids, (as do men in many careers.) But I don't see him in the Social Sciences or the Humanities. I think he is the type who would go into the applied sciences (not pure science or mathematics.) I don't see him going to law as a first choice. I see him as an aeronautics engineer, or maybe a civil engineer like a bridge builder. I can see him as a geologist, or geophysicist too. Whatever he did, he'd fly as a hobby at least. At the end, Harm thought Mac would be there when he left and Mac, standing on the balconey watching the helo, thought Harm should have answered and fought for her. You tried everything but he was evasive about his feelings - one day showing he liked you and the next he was indifferent. On the other hand, the boy likes you and is too shy to show you or he wants you to be so happy that he will wait for you to come to him.....I had the same experience in high school - waiting for him to come to me and he never did. I was not aggressive enough and didn't have enough confidence that it was me he actually liked. TPTB were experts in "the dance" "leading the gorilla to 'the room" and "dodging bullets". I am glad we have fan fic to take each H&M shipper scene to the next level.

At what point in the series do you think that Harm and Mac getting together would have made the most sense? And been most likely to work out?

And what happened in Paraguay was a break up because Mac didn't see anything that they felt going anywhere and both of them weren't getting any younger. - I'll dare to disagree - I'm thinking adrift 2 - to hell with Renees father - Mac goes to him - and we get a revelation moment where he actually says- I wanted you - you knew that. - and she says I'm not a mind reader - and surprise surprise - they fall into each others arms - THEN they spend the rest of the season dating - and keeping that a secret and trying to keep professional on the field and I'd have been oh so very happy - LOL - but that forced bitter end to Adrift2 really ticked me off.
