Doorbell RINGS. Harm hobbles to the door, opens it. It's

Mac. He's surprised. After the business with Renee he's not
sure how to handle her.

MAC

Welcome back.

He notes her emotional state.

HARM

You look miserable.

(beat)

Come in.

She senses a slight reluctance.

MAC

Maybe not.

He can't send her away, gestures for her to enter. Mac steps in. He closes the door behind her. She looks at him, [X] pauses, considers how to put it, decides to play it straight.

MAC

Mic moved out.

This is a bigger problem than he expected.

HARM

Why?

MAC

I don't think he believes I love
him.

HARM
(a simple question)

Is he right?

MAC

No.

HARM

(putting aside his own
feelings)

So, tell him that.

MAC

It's complicated.

HARM
Run it down for me.

MAC

(second thoughts)

This was a mistake. I don't know
why I'm here. I should be....

The phone RINGS. Mac stops. Harm answers it.

HARM

Yeah.

An uncomfortable moment as he listens.

HARM
Hold on.

Harm hands the phone to Mac, who accepts it with confusion.

MAC
Hello.

INTERCUT WITH 120 INT. HOTEL - NIGHT 120 Brumby is on the other end. MIC BRUMBY I was sitting here wondering who you'd go to first.

MAC
Mic....

MIC BRUMBY

I have my answer. Thank you.

MAC

Give me your address. I'll come
up there.

MIC BRUMBY
I'm leaving. Closing up the office and catching the first plane to Australia.

MAC

You need to be on the other side
of the world to think?

MIC BRUMBY

I'm done thinking.
(sadly)
Goodbye, Sarah.

A DIAL TONE cuts her off.

�
END INTERCUT

Stunned, Mac hangs up the phone.

MAC
(astonished) He's leaving the country.

Long beat as they stare at each other. Then..

HARM
(energized) Go get him.

MAC
(in shock)
What?

HARM
Head him off at the airport. Ask for his forgiveness.

She can't believe what's happening, stares back.

HARM
Mac, you've been defending this relationship to me from day one. If you're serious about saving it, drag him out of that airport and into a church. Do it now.

This means something coming from Harm. She stands.

HARM
Go.

She rises, as if in a trance, crosses to the door, looks back at him. He nods. She exits.

If things had been more black and white, she might have been able to decide sooner. I still think it would have been Harm. I'm a true blue Harm and Mac shipper, to this day. But never really knowing for sure, or sensing ambiguous signals on both sides. Everyone was sick of the back and forth. I know angst is part of their story, but this would have been a breath of fresh air. If only for a short time.

Harm basically called her bluff about Mic in those lines of dialog that were not used. "You've been defending this relationship to me from day one." He's forcing her to make a choice and saying, If he's the one you really want - go get him.

In that moment, can you imagine how torn Mac would be? Really deep in her heart struggling to choose between Mic and Harm, and not being able to let Harm "win" by letting him think he was right all along about her and Mic. So she HAS to go to the airport. And when Mic rebuffs her with such silent finality, she has no choice but to go back to Harm, but she still resists it, asking WHY when he tells her to come back to him.

Oh, she had herself tangled up REAL good!
